I am looking for any info on Cordelia REED who ran the Vine St Orphanage in the late 1800 early 1900. I believe her daughter was named Adelaide and married Jacksom Chase REID. They later moved to CA. and she married a SKEMP. Her daughter who was my grandmother was named Frances REID and was raised at the orphanage. I understand that a picture of Cordelia hangs in the hall of the Chambliss Children's Home but I know nothing else about her.
This as much family history as I have on this part of my family. Thanks Kathie Senter

Hello......I'm hoping to find more information about James C. HARVEY born Oct 1827 Tn who appeared on the 1860 Hamilton County, Tenn census with wife Elizabeth and daughter Margaret age 3 Tn. James C. HARVEY was part of the 6th Tenn Mounted Infantry and appeared on the 1880 census, 1890 Veterans Schedule for Bledsoe County, Tenn.
By 1900 he and new wife Nancy are located in Sequatchie County, Tenn. She applied for widow pension benefits in 1907.
I believe James C. HARVEY's parents were Allen A. HARVEY born 1784 NC and Margaret HARVEY born 1784 VA. Siblings include George Milton HARVEY 1822 NC and Lydia (HARVEY) PIERCE born 1834 Tn and possibly Ezekiel HARVEY. The family appeared together on the Gilmer County, Georgia 1850 census. There is a marriage record for George, Ezekiel and Lydia in Forsyth County, Georgia. Unknown where James C. married.
I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks Marianne Lefevre Harden

John ANDERSON, Esq., a prominent citizen and planter of the Fourth District, was born in Bledsoe County, December 2, 1814. He is the youngest and only surviving one of six children of Col. John and Betsy (McNAIR) ANDERSON. Both parents were of Scotch descent. The father was born in Scott County, Va., October 5, 1778, and died October 27, 1814, while on a march with his
regiment to New Orleans. He was colonel of the State militia. He was by occupation a farmer and merchant. The mother was born near Knoxville, Tenn., March 31, 1783, and married in Knox County, November 5, 1805. Her death occurred August 13, 1859, near Pikeville, Bledsoe County. They were devout members of the Presbyterian Church. Our subject received a good education in his native county. In his early days he dealt in corn on the Sequatchie River. In 1835 he moved to Hamilton (now James) County, and was one of the first settlers. He opened the first store at Georgetown, where for a few years he engaged in mercantile business. In 1838 he purchased and settled upon the farm where he now resides. Since that date he has given his
attention to agriculture and live stock trading. From 1836 to 1886 he was the postmaster at Georgetown. The office was for a time in the village, and then at his residence. For forty years he was justice of the peace. He resigned in 1886. He is a warm Republican. In the latter part of 1835 he married Miss G. Allen, who bore him two children; she died in 1838, an earnest member of the Methodist Church. January 16, 1840, our subject wedded Purlymly Luttrell, by whom he has had ten children. Five of his sons served in the Federal Army. J M received a mortal wound September 27, 1864, at Pulaski, Tenn., while engaged with Forrest's forces. He was brought home by his father, and died the following 24th of December. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson are active members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
From what I found John and Elizabeth (McNAIR) ANDERSON had 5 children. He died and she remarried James THURMAN they had one daughter Sophia. He died she remarried Jame LlLOYD. Their children Albert, Roland, Jane and Martha ANDERSON children that are mention that I found is
Louisa Maxwell ANDERSON b 8 Sept 1806 m'd Allen Kirland they 12 children
Josiah McNair ANDERSON b Jan 29, 1807
James Madison ANDERSON b Feb 25,1809
Elizabeth Ann ANDERSON b Apr 1,1811
Franklin ANDERSON b Jan 10,1813 d 1819
John ANDERSON III b Dec 2,1814 several weeks following his father's death on their way to New Orleans
Found in Sequatchie families by James Douthat

I am having great difficulty tracking down my great great grandparents (or family members). Family bible shows my great uncle born in Chattanooga, Hamilton,Tennessee on Oct 23 1892.
If you could shed any light or put me in contact with someone who can I'd appreciate it greatly. Info I have on the family as I know it:
I am searching for my WILLIAMS/SHANK ancestors. I know a large part of the family live/lived in Tennessee. (guessing the 1940's). The rest seem to be all over. California, W. Virginia, Canada, and the list goes on.
My great great grandfather John Henry WILLIAMS born 1846 born in either Virginia or Wales (stories say he fought in the Civil War) married Annie/Anna SHANK born 10/31/1854 W. Virginia (stories say she died in a fire of their boarding house)
They had children (these are the ones we know, there could be more):
infant WILLIAMS, b. November 23, 1877 (we think Jack)
George E. WILLIAMS, b. March 02, 1879 Born in W. Virginia- possible middle name Emmett or Ernest.
Zella H. WILLIAMS, b. March 09, 1887. Ohio (possibly Urbana, Ohio)
My great grandfather Luke Markwood WILLIAMS Born July 10, 1880 in Cumberland, Maryland (married Mary Pinkney GARREN) - Had my grandfather Earl Raymond WILLIAMS Sr. (married Daisy May WILSON). Died in San Jose, CA
Earl Wyman WILLIAMS Born Oct 23 1892 Chattanooga, Hamilton,Tennessee (2nd wife Laura REYNOLDS) Died in Concord, CA
A cousin named Jack/John WILLIAMS was a Navy man and at one time was stationed in California (we believe Vallejo). WW2 (stories say he had a ship blown out from under him at Pearl Harbor, and he lived)

Family Search records indicate that Laura Adaline PARROTT married Henry JOHNSON 12 January, 1860. Addie JOHNSON married Charles B. Kistner (KEISNER - misspelled) 23 Sept 1865 and had one son, Charles Byron KISTNER. In 27 Jul 1867, Ad KEISNER married Chesley H. DUNCAN. All of this is Batch Number M525041 Dates 1857-18?? Source Call No. 1305538
Pension fild Name: JOHNSON, Henry
Widow: JOHNSON, Adline
Pension # W10669
County: Maury
She is my great grandmother. I have just found this info on line. I do not know what Batch Numbers or Source Call numbers are. Since she married Henry JOHNSON in 1860, and remarried in 1865, it seems possible Henry was killed in the war. I do not know where to start to look for his record. Or burial site, if any.
It is rumored that Charles KISTNER abandoned her. I do not know where to look for him. Were divorces possible then??
I do not know where to look up pension info.
Also, Chesley DUNCAN would never tell on which side of the war he fought. Family rumor has it he was Confederate, captured by Federals in Virginia, about to be hanged, he convinced them he was a Federal spy. They let him go. He drew $19 pension - do not know if it was a one time thing, annual, monthly or what?
Please direct me here. He is my great grandfather and I just learned his name in June.
Thank you for any and all assistance you may provide.
I now live in KC, was born in Chattanooga, grew up in Decatur,GA

I am looking for information on Frank (or Franklin) WOODRUFF who moved to the Chattanooga area after the Civil War. I have been unable to locate him in the Civil War Pensions for Tennessee. Since they began in 1891, there's a good possibility that he had died by then, and did not receive a pension. He was quite old during the Civil War, probably in his 50's during the war. He was born in Spartanburg District, South Carolina somewhere around 1815, moved to Alexandria, AL around 1840 with his mother and siblings. He was elected Captain of the Alexandria Rifles in 1861, part of the 10th AL, I think. His wife died during the war, and after the war, he is believed to have moved to the Chattanooga area.
