Jonesborough Genealogical Society


     The Jonesborough Genealogical Society was formed to...

  • Develop an outstanding genealogical and historical research center as a section of the Washington County-Jonesborough Library.
  • Promote the collection and preservation of all records pertaining to Upper East Tennessee with special emphasis on Jonesborough and African-American families.
  • Promote the exchange of data and serve as a network center for bringing together those with common interests.
  • Instruction members in the techniques of genealogical research.

MEETINGS

The Jonesborough Genealogical Society meets jointly with the Washington County Historical Association on the third Saturday of March, May, July, September and November, at 10:00 a.m. in the Washington County Courthouse.  At 9:30 a.m. the Jonesborough Genealogical Society has a business meeting.

Publication The Society has a column, "Digging For Your Roots," in the weekly Jonesborough Herald and Tribune which serves as its publication.  Contributions of family data are welcome.   Queries and surname research lists will be printed for the Jonesborough Genealogical Society members.

RESEARCH

The Jonesborough Genealogical Society sponsors "Genealogical Day" in the Washington County-Jonesborough Library on the 2nd Saturday of each month.  On that day each month, researchers should find a JGS volunteer available to assist with their genealogy research.
