June 21st,
2008 - This is an update on Claiborne County
Cemeteries Association’s President Joyce Pressnell Watson. Joyce has
been diagnosed with Leukemia, and recently received treatment during
a long hospital stay, but the good news is that she finally has came
home. Joyce responded favorably to the treatment she received during
her stay, although she was in a great deal of discomfort most of the
time, which caused her to suffer severe headaches and left her
without much of an appetite most of the time. She has to go back to
the doctor next Friday (06/28) for another bone marrow and
subsequent chemotherapy treatments. Many churches have her on their
prayer list, and we ask that you all remember her in your thoughts
and prayers as well. Joyce is checking her emails, so if you wish to
send her personal message of support her email address is:
jpwatson@centurytel.net. She may not respond to you
immediately or at all, but she is viewing all messages of support as
opportunity permits and appreciates everyone's messages of support!

The CCCA meets at 10AM the first

interest in cemeteries come join us at the meetings.
The CCCA had a
very busy Fall/Winter 2007! The cleanup crew revisited many of
the cemeteries that were previously cleared plus they cleaned the
Fultz
Cemetery for the first time.
Please click on the Fultz Cemetery highlighted above to view the hard
work that the CCCA cleanup crew has done, and their wonderful dedication to
restoring our old Claiborne County's Cemeteries!

Edition of the Claiborne Progress:
Out of Town
Guests Help Claiborne County Cemeteries Association
To the Editor:
Pam Burnette and
her lifelong friend from grade school, Marilyn, came all the
way from Torrance, Calif, to do a fund raiser to help the
Claiborne County Cemeteries Association.
This event was
held at the Senior Citizens building on Oct. 13, from 1
p.m.-3 p.m. Everyone enjoyed the rich, rich, rich chocolate.
Approximately $300 was raised by the event. Thank you Pam
and Marilyn.
Members of the
CCCA put forth an effort to show Marilyn, who had not been
fortunate to see many events of country living, and Pam the
life-style and ways of life of folk around Claiborne County.
Tours were given to Pam and Marilyn in the Cave Springs,
Bethel, Goins Chapel, Leatherwood, Blairs Creek, Sharps
Chapel and other remote areas that they loved to see. We
visited the home of Lewis and Ruth Minton where Pam very
much liked the Log Cabin and majestic surrounding of their
home and found that they were cousins and was able to get a
picture of a great grandmother that she had not seen a
picture of before. Visited the Lead Mine in Union County and
was able to ride on Helms Ferry which was also new
experiences. Visited the "Ousley" Civil War house in Union
County and received some history from that house. Pam is
very much interested in "log cabins" of the late 1800's and
early 1900's. If you know of any that would be for sale she
would like to have them redone on a lot that she could
purchase. And lastly, we visited the "fall event" on Dr.
Carroll Rose's Mountain where they saw Molasses and Apple
Butter being made, horse and wagon rides on top of the
Mountain.
What an awesome
finale! This trip was thoroughly enjoyed by these ladies.
Pam is the granddaughter of Cleo Cupp Ellison Jessie who is
now a resident in the Claiborne County Nursing Home. She is
practically related to everyone who ever came through the
Claiborne County region. Pam is the administrator of the
list:
TNCLAIBO-L@rootsweb.com.
This is a list that has questions and information about folk
who is now or once was in Claiborne County. If you would
like to join the list, just go the above address and write
in the words: Subscribe. The Claiborne County Cemeteries
Association would like to again thank Pam and Marilyn for
the efforts put forth for the CCCA.

Cemetery located behind DTR automotive parts plant in Tazewell!
DTR
automotive parts in Tazewell has notified the CCCA that they have
located a cemetery on their property and have cleared and fenced it.
We are not sure if this cemetery has been located before but it has
some marked stones that go back to the 1800’s. We will be inspecting
this cemetery as soon as possible, and if there is anyone who wants
to research it can do so. Our thanks to Sherry for working with DTR
automotive parts in the location of this cemetery and her report.
It's
getting about that time of year for the Annual renewal
of your Membership in the CCCA. Annual Membership dues
are good from June 1 of this year through May 31 of next
year, and they are $10.00 per person. Please send in
your dues as soon as possible, and also let your friends
and family know out us, and ask them to help do their
part to help us maintain our Claiborne County cemeteries
that need to be cared for. Thank you in advance for your
support!!!!
We would like to welcome you
to the Claiborne County Cemeteries
Association (CCCA) website. The CCCA is a Nonprofit Organization*
that is committed to providing restoration and preservation to our
Claiborne County Tennessee cemeteries. We work closely with local
officials as well as the general public through a variety of
programs, events, publications, and other activities, to ensure that
all old and dilapidated cemeteries in our county be perpetual
restored and preserved.
None of this could
ever be accomplished without a dedicated Board of Directors, a
strong membership, a network of dedicated volunteers, as well as
cemetery advocates both locally and from other parts of the Country,
who have continually offered their support and assistance to make
sure that these cemeteries are well maintained.
We hope you enjoy
and learn while looking through our web site. If you see something
you like or have any questions, please feel free to drop us a line.
So take a look around our website to learn more about us, and how
you can help preserve the past for the future. All contributions to
