McKnight-Gwin Burial Ground
York County, South Carolina

The following tombstones were read by Joe E. Hart & T.J. Caldwell in October 1872.  The family burial ground is located about six miles southwest of McConnells, York County, SC, west of Secondary Road 59 near Susybole Creek.  Some words have been dropped in order to conserve space but the essential information is preserved.

Bennie S., dau. of B.F. & M.C. Turner, b. July 16, 1879, died Oct. 12, 1879
Mary C. Turner, wife of B.F. Turner, born Mar 31st 1847, died Dec. 28th 1879
Sarah Gwin, wife of Jeptha Gwin, born Oct. the 8th 1813, died July the 15th, 1843
Elizabeth Gwin, wife of Thomas Gwin, b. Dec. 15th 1771, died Nov. 24th 1843
O.J. Gwin, Dec. 23, 1841-Aug. 28, 1926.  His wife Sallie McKnight, Jan 10, 1844-July 26, 1907

J.J. McKnight born Oct. 28th 1849, died July 7th 1856
Julia E. Smith, consort of Lawson H. Smith, died Apr. 30, 1874, in her 33rd year
Infant daughter of John & Olive L. Ross, born Jan 17th 1846, died Jan. 18th 1846
Infant son of John &Olive L. Ross **born Jan 17, 1846 and died Jan 20th 1846
John Lee, son of John and Olive Lee Ross, born 23rd June 1848 and died 10th Aug. 1850
Martha E. Hafner, dau. of R.&M. Gwin, born Oct 15th 1831, died Aug. 13th 1852

**The Rosses later moved to the Indian Land section of Lancaster County.  There Olive L. Ross founded the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church on Newton Road off #521.
