He was shot in the left hand while on a wiring party, losing two fingers. He returned home in August of the same year and was given employment with the Imperial Munitions Board as a shell examiner. Later he joined the Aviation Corps, undegoing training at Toronto and at several stations in the U.S.A. Lare he worked for the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission.
