Johnn MacLennan



"Mr. John MacLennan

There passed away at Hopefield on Sunday morning January 30th, Mr. John MacLennan one of the oldest residents in that part of the province.

Born in Scotland, August 1st, 1838, he emigrated to this country with his parents in 1841. They settled in Little Sands where the late Mr. MacLennan resided up to within a few years ago when he removed to the adjoining district of Hopefield, a very short distance from his old home. He was a man of splendid character, a sincere Christian, being during his long life a member of the Presbyterian Church, now the United Church at Little Sands.

He leaves to cherish his memory a widow and seven children, John J. and Torquil in Vancouver, B.C., Alexander M., Norwood, Mass., John D., Little Sands, Mrs. James MacConnell, Boston, Mass., Mrs. D.R. MacFarlane, Hopefield and Miss Mary, Hopefield.

His funeral was held on Monday and was largely attended. The service at the house and grave was taken by his pastor, Rev. M.D. MacDonald. The following acted as pallbearers: M. Smith, A. Blue, D.A. Munn, M. Livingstone, J.M. Stewart and M.A. MacNutt. Interment was in Little Sands Cemetery."
