  • Daniel POWER'S son, of Barclay, was instantly killed Thursday morning by the falling of coal. He was 12 years old
  • The jury rendered a verdict of guilty of murder in the first degree against Catherine MILLER and her paramour George SMITH for the murder of her husband at Jersey Shore in March last
  • Frank MASON, fireman who was injured by an explosion near Rummersfield on Monday of last week, died on Tuesday morning at the house of Dr. Clagget. The body was brought to Towanda and funeral held on Wed. Mason left a wife and three children.
  • Col. Clarence G. JACKSON, of Berwick, died suddenly at his residence in that borough on the 3rd.
  • Nellie, d/o Frederick STAPLES, of Scranton, was visiting her aunt, Mrs. WARNER, had her clothes catch on fire – she fell burned to a crisp on some portions of her body. Mrs. Warner also received sever injuries in trying to help Nellie.
  • Leonard Benjamin, infant son of Henry & Amelia TRIPP, aged 5 months and 9 days, died at Fox Centre on May 4th

    19 May 1880

  • Thomas WHITE, 28, was hanged in Spartansburg on the 14th for the murder of Pete HAWKINS (colored). His last words were, he wanted everybody to know what whiskey and bad company would bring man.
  • Mrs. CONNOR, of Bernice, who has been sick for a long time, was laid at rest in the Catholic Cemetery Tuesday afternoon.
  • Winfield POTTER buried a little child the last of the week
  • Ambrose FARRELL and Mary BERGEN were married on Tuesday morning at the Catholic Church

  • Edmond PENNINGTON, died at his residence in LaPorte Twp., on March 24th. The deceased was 72 years and 7 months, one of the oldest and earliest settlers of this region. He leaves a wife, 1 son and 3 daughters, two of whom are in Nebraska. He was a member of the ME Church for 41 years. He was an invalid for years and suffered greatly. At last pneumonia attacked. He was an earnest patriot and gave both of his sons to the service of his country, only one of whom was spared to comfort his declining years.
  • Cards are out for the marriage of S. F. COLT Jr. and Miss Lizzie FINCH, at LaPorte Thursday evening at 8
  • Sugar Hill – The friends of Miss Jennie MCNEAL deeply feel their bereavement, but the May flowers bloom over her grave – her sufferings ended.
  • Sugar Hill – We noticed in the last "Review" the burial of a child belonging to Winfield POTTER. It should have been Gilbert POTTER. The children of Winfield Potter are well and hearty.
  • Miss Johanna KINNEY, aged 22 years 5 months and 23 days, died at the home of her parents in Cherry Twp., on May 13th of consumption, funeral took place at the Catholic Cemetery on 15th
  • In Elkland, on 16th inst., Edna, d/o Thomas W. and M. Vadilla MC CARTY, aged 2 years 7 months and 18 days died.
  • Stephen MURPHY of Cherry Twp. and Miss Kate CUMMISKY, of Laddsburg, Bradford Co., were married at the Catholic Church in DuShore, May 12th by Rev. Father Kaier

    2 June 1880

  • James HAMLIN, of Lock Haven married Miss Rose KELLY md. at Trinity ME Church, she is d/o Rev. R. E. KELLY of South Fairview St.
  • Milo TRIPP, of Shunk, married Miss Hattie KELLY, sister of above, at same time and place.
  • James CUNNINGHAM left for Montanna – his family will remain here for the present.
  • Daniel VAN ETTEN, s/o Henry, dropped dead of heart disease in his new home of Little Traverse, Michigan. The body was brought to Lyons, NY and buried beside his mother. He was about 20 years of age.
  • Samuel F. COLT Jr. and Miss Lizzie FINCH were married Thursday evening at the residence of C. C. Finch Esq., LaPorte. Will FINCH, the bride's brother was the groomsman, Miss Carrie COLT the groom's sister the bridesmaid.
  • Delos SMITH, of Barclay and Miss Effie BEEBE, of Millview, were married at the Presbyterian parsonage, Monroeton, 22 May 1880 by Rev. H. Armstrong

    9 June 1880

  • P. R. ACKLEY'S only daughter, Lizzie will be married today.
  • Mr. LUGGIENS is very sick. The Dr. thinks it is the poison that he inhaled from boiling sugar of lead.
  • Mrs. Samuel LITTLE is very sick, having had two strokes of palsy. She lives alone most of the time, her son, David, not being home. She will go to live with her son Dan, near Eaglesmere Lake.

    16 June 1880

  • Thomas COLLINS, who lives on the hill some 4 miles south of Cherry Mills, was severely and perhaps fatally injured on Sunday afternoon by the falling of a barn, in Albany Twp, into which he had gone for shelter during a storm. Collins was alive at last accounts but can scarcely recover.
  • John B. BAILEY and Miss Lizzie A. ACKLEY, d/o P. R., of DuShore married in South Waverly, 9 June at the residence of the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Jacob REEL, by Rev. Smalley of the ME Church.
  • Mrs. HIME, generally known as Mother Hime, died near DuShore 8 June 1880, aged 87 years 10 months and 20 days, the remains taken to Bahr's Cemetery on Friday.
  • Edward SHARP, perhaps 75, and Mrs. LEMMER, relict of two lamented ex-husbands were licensed to live together as man and wife by Squire Deggan on Monday.
  • Edward LUTZY, died of Diptheria in Conyngham Twp., on 31st. He died in great pain and in his death agony bit his wife's hand. From the wound she caught the disease and probably will not recover. Her whole arm is badly swollen and had the resemblance of the effects of a snake bite.

    23 June 1880

  • Mrs. Joseph TALL, of Cherry Twp., died Sunday and was interred at the Catholic Cemetery on Tuesday.
  • Mrs. William KISNER, of Cherry Twp. is reported very low with that dreaded disease consumption.
  • S. C. STRONG, old resident of Terrytown, Bradford Co., died, telegram was sent to his grandson, E. A. STRONG on Saturday morning.
  • Michael HANNON, resident of Cherry Twp. (Ringer Hill) was instantly killed on Saturday afternoon by the falling of a tree. He was about 45 years of age and leaves a wife.
  • Eldredville - Mr. B. STEVENSON'S family have been greatly afflicted, several of them have been quite ill, one of the children, aged six or seven years, died a short time ago.
  • Eldredville – Mrs. Jane GRANGE, who was hurt by a fall, 20 June 1879, is still suffering from its effects. She has not been able to walk since the accident, and being in 91st year, it is not likely she will ever walk again.
  • Eldredville – Mrs. Isabel LITTLE is quite ill and her friends despare of her recovery.

    30 June 1880

  • Mrs. Isabelle LITTLE, died at her residence near Forksville, on 23rd inst., aged 76 years 4 months and 1 day
  • Julia, w/o Dinsmore PEPPER, died on 26 June, at her residence in Cowansport, Cherry Twp., aged 50 years 3 months
