The Bedford County Historical Society honored Raymond Jackson as Volunteer of the Year during the Volunteer Luncheon on December 14th. Ray has volunteered at the Society/Pioneer Library since the summer of 2006. He has been involved in assisting patrons in the library, writing grants, serving on the Board of Directors as Treasurer, and re-publishing books, as well as the general day-to-day operations of the Society.

Ray was born and raised in Mexico, New York and married his high school sweetheart, Judy, in 1965. Ray and Judy have 2 children and 4 grandchildren. Ray came to Bedford to serve as Chief of the Department of Imaging at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital; a position he held for 13 years.

Ray and Judy have made Bedford their home, and we all feel blessed to have both of them involved in the work of the Historical Society.

Society President Glenden Casteel thanked all of the volunteers for their faithful service this past year. He then presented Ray with a certificate, honoring him as “Volunteer of the Year”. Glenden commented that there is hardly ever a time that he stops by the Society/Library that Ray isn’t there. Ray thanked the Society and shared a little of how he came to volunteer at the Society. He said we should thank Judy, since she was the one to suggest to him to visit at the Historical Society because of his interest in genealogy.
