Pfc. Edmumnd John ARMSTRONG, son of Mrs. R. W. ARMSTRONG, Vian enlisted in the army August 10,
1943 and took his basic training at Fort Sill. He is now stationed at Camp Chaffee, Ark. ARMSTRONG has a
law degree from the University of Oklahoma. His wife makes her home in Ft. Smith, Ark.

S/Sgt. Ray FINE , Gore son of Mr. and Mrs. I. L. FINE spent five years in German prison camp after he was captured January 18, 1945 while fighting with the 42nd (Rainbow) division in Germany. Sergeant FINE had
been elected to his second term in the state senate prior to entering service. His wife makes her home at Gore.

Lt. Glenn A. ARMSTRONG, another son of Mrs. R. W. ARMSTRONG, Vian took his early military training at Oklahoma University, of which he is a graduate and was called for active duty soon after war was declared. He was stationed at the army air base at Salt Lake City before going overseas. He was recently returned to the states and is now attached in San Marcus, Texas. His wife, Mrs. Margaret ARMSTRONG is making her home in San Marcus with her husband.

Cpl. Carl PHILLIPS son of Mrs. J. H. PHILLIPS entered the service March 7, 1943 and took his basic training at Camp Maxey, Texas and Camp McCain, Miss. before going overseas. He is now is Belgium. Corporal PHILLIPS wife Mrs. Pearlie PHILLIPS, and four children, James Albert, Wanda Lou, Charles Edwin and Carl Jr., make their home in Sallisaw.

Pfc. Kenneth Leroy HOOVER, 19 years old, USMC, was sent to the southwest Pacific in March 1944, where he saw action in the battle of Saipan. He was employed by Kaiser shipyards, Richmond, Calif. before induction October 26, 1943. His father, J. C. HOOVER lives in Muldrow, route l. His wife, Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. NICHOLS of Muldrow, route 4, is employed at the navy yard, Mare Island, Calif.

Cpl. James JONES, Jr. is the 21 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Jones of Gans. He recently received a good behavior award and has been promoted to corporal from private, first class. He is stationed at Camp Robinson, Ark. with an infantry outfit. When he went in the service he was first assigned to the anti-aircraft battery and was sent to Camp Callan, Calif. From there he went to Camp Haan and then was transferred to his present station.

James Franklin FREEMAN, son of Mrs. Eliza FREEMAN, route 1, Muldrow, entered service, November 12, 1942 and was sent to Fort Sill for his basic training. He was farming at the time of his enlistment.

Harlie PENDERGRASS, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. PENDERGRASS, route 4, Muldrow, enlisted at Tulsa August 10, 1942, and was assigned to the army air forces. He was farming at the time he entered service and has three sisters, Hazel, Artie and Etta PENDERGRASS. He received his discharge in July 1943.

Floyd BELL, son of Mrs. George W. EDGMON, route two, Vian, entered service August 12, 1942.
At the time he enlisted he was farming. Hehas one daughter. Wilma Lyn BELL.

James FRIZLEY, son of Mr. and Mrs. George FRIZLEY, entered service January 26, 1943 and served with the Eight Service Command at Camp Howze, Texas. He was discharged May 28, 1943 and is now employed by the United States engineers at Oklahoma City. His wife Mrs. Geraldine FRIZLEY and son, James Howard, make their home at Oklahoma City. His brother, Gen. FRIZLEY, is pictured on page 6. Section B.

Lt. Bill BYRD Jr., son of commissioner Bill BYRD and Mrs. Alta BYRD Sallisaw, entered service April 1, 1943 and took his basic training at Fort Knox, Ky. He is now with Patton's Third Army in Germany. He has been overseas 13 months. Lieutenant BYRD received the Bronze Star February 24, 1945. He graduated Oklahoma A. and M. College at Stillwater. Lt. BYRD is one of your Times boys in service.

Lt. Clifton BYRD, another son of Commissioner Bill BYRD and Mrs. Alta BYRD, entered service September 16, 1940 and took his basic training with the 45th Division at Fort Sill. He is also with Patton's Third Army in Germany and the boys recently visited each other. Lieutenant Clifton BYRD has been overseas for 7 months. His wife, Mrs. Mildred Byrd, and 13 month old son, billy Charles, are making their home in Sallisaw.

Sgt. H. Earle MCDONALD, JR., son of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. MCDONALD, Sallisaw, entered the service June 3, 1942 and is now in the post finance department at Camp Gruber, Muskogee, Sergeant MCDONALD attended Northeastern state college at Tahlequah and became active in the Sallisaw State bank in 1935 and was vice president at the time he enlisted for service. His wife, the former Charlotte DEVERS, makes her home in Muskogee.

Pfc. Albert W. BROCKMAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. BROCKMAN, Vian, enlisted in August of 1943 and was sent to Fort Sill, Okla., for his basic training and later transferred to New Orleans. In December, 1943, he was sent to England and France. BROCKMAN has one brother in service, Capt. S. E. BROCKMAN, Neosho, Mo., and two other brothers, W. L. and Lewis who live at Vian, Okla. His wife, Mrs. Eunice BROCKMAN, also makes her home at Vian.

Capt. Sample E. BROCKMAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. BROCKMAN, enlisted in the army signal corps in November of 1940 and attended officers candidate school at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. BROCKMAN received his commission as a first lieutenant in February of 1942 and was promoted to the rank of captain in June of 1943. His wife, Sarah Elva BAKER, formerly of Tulsa, and two daughters, Sharon Eliza and Sarah Vonne, are with Capt. BROCKMAN in Neosho, Mo.

Lt. (jg) James T. BROCKMAN, JR., son of James T. BROCKMAN, Sallisaw, took his basic training at the Naval Training Station at Hollywood, Fla., and was later sent to the communications school at Harvard college, Cambridge, Mass. Lieut. BROCKMAN graduated from Sallisaw high school and Connors State college. At the time of his enlistment he was employed by Haliburton Oil Well Cementing Co., as an engineer. His wife, and three children, Jimmie, Sally Lynn and Linda Jane, are making their home in Cambridge, Mass.

Cadet Lewis Bernard BROCKMAN, 18 year-old son of Lewis BROCKMAN, Vian, was attending Arkansas State Teachers college at Conway, Ark., at the time he volunteered for the air corps reserves in July of 1943. He took his basic training at Sheppard Field, Texas, and Creighton University, Omaha, Neb., and was sent to Santa Ana Air Base for special training. He has now completed his training and has been classified as a navigator of the army air corps.

Lt. (jg) Juanita WHITRIGHT was a teacher when she enlisted for service March 11, 1943, and went to the Navy training station, Northampton, Mass for training. From there she went to the coast guard academy at New York city, and to Boston, Mass. She is now stationed at Miami, Fla. Her husband, William M. WHITRIGHT Yeo. 2/c is with the fleet somewhere in the Pacific. A brother, Lt. (jg) J. T. BROCKMAN is in training at Harvard, while her father J. T. BROCKMAN, lives in Sallisaw and her mother, Mrs. C. B. HARLING makes her home in Los Angeles, Calif.

Pvt. Charles DUEVALL was killed in action in Italy on November 24, 1943. His mother, Mrs. Sarah DEUVALL, Vian received a citation and the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The presentation was made by Colonel DuBois Linton at Camp Gruber.

Charles W. MATTHEWS is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. MATTHEWS of Vian. He has one sister Latha MATTHEWS, of Phoenix, Ariz. MATTHEWS received his education at Carlile, and was a farmer before going into the army August 10, 1943. He was first stationed at Ft. Sill with the infantry and has been in North Africa and Italy. He has been slightly wounded but is back on duty..

Lewis NOEL, son of Eli NOEL, route 1, Gore, took his basic training at Camp Roberts, Calif., and was later stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash. NOEL is now fighting in the European theater. His wife, Connie Pearl NOEL, is making her home at Tulsa. He has a brother, Frank, in the Navy, somewhere in the south Pacific.

Raymond BOOZE, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. BOOZE, Gore, was a farmer before he entered the service February 15, 1943. He took his training at Camp Hulen, Texas. He has two sisters at home.

Pfc. Clayton AMOS, son of John AMOS, Sallisaw, enlisted in January, 1941, and was sent to Camp Barkley, Texas for his training. He is now station at ---Devens, Mass. AMOS was a -- driver before entering the service.

Pvt. James G. GOAD, grandson of Mrs. Hattie BOEN, was inducted into the army September 6, 1943, and was sent to Camp Gruber at Muskogee for his basic training. He was later sent to Fort Mead, port of embankment and assigned to the 45th division in France. Pvt. GOAD was employed as a welder in Richmond, Calif., at the time he entered the service.

Pfc. Freddy L. CHAPMAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. A. CHAPMAN, Muldrow, entered the Army November 5, 1942, and was sent to Camp Robinson, Ark., for his basic training. He was also stationed at Cap McCain, Minn. CHAPMAN was a farmer before entering the service.

Sgt. Artie BROOKS, son of Joe Brooks, Roland, Okla. was inducted into the army June 4, 1942. He received his training at Sheppard Field and Stinson Field, both in Texas. At present he is stationed in North Africa, with the 16th supply squadron. He has been overseas since July, 1943.

Sgt. Virgil A. CARTER, son of W. E. CARTER, Gore, enlisted in the army in March, 1938, and was sent to Ft. Sill, Okla., for training CARTER was in the North African and Sicilian campaigns and also in Italy and France. He has four sisters.

Pvt. Thell Jerome FAIR attended Central high school and was farming at the time of his induction into the army. Pvt. FAIR took his basic training at Camp Roberts, Calif., and is now in Hawaii. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Hanagan Fair, Richmond, Calif.

Pvt. Curtis Allen FAIR, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Hanagan FAIR, former Sequoyah county residents now living in Richmond Calif. enlisted in the army at the age of 17 and was sent to Hawaii where he remained until recently when he was transferred to the New Guinea Area.

Pvt. Nelson BARNOSKIE, son of Cat BARNOSKIE , of Muskogee, formerly of Vian, Sequoyah county, was killed in action in France, June 11, 1944. Pvt. BARNOSKIE was 19 years old when he entered the service in August, 1943, and had been overseas five months when he was killed. He attended grade school at Vian and was a graduate of Sallisaw high school. He took his basic training at Camp Wolters, Tex., from where he was sent to Fort Mead, Md., where he embarked for overseas duty in February, 1944.

Pfc. Mayo BARNOSKIE, 21, son of Cat BARNOSKIE, of Muskogee, formerly of Vian, is now on duty in Burma, where a short time ago he and some of his outfit were successful in killing a Burma bison that weighed more than a ton. Pfc. BARNOSKIE entered the service in June of 1943; took his basic training at Sheppard Field, Texas. He is in the Air Corps. Pfc. Mayo BARNOSKIE attended grade school at Vian and graduated from Sallisaw high school in 1943.

T/Sgt. John SEWELL was presented with the Purple Heart for wounds received on June 24, 1944, while in action in France. He had been overseas 10 months when he was injured. He volunteered for service in the army, November 18, 1940, and was trained at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, and Camp McCoy, Wis. Sgt. SEWELL is the son of Mrs. E. L. Daily, SALLISAW, route 1. He has four brothers and four sisters.

John Ray STREBECK, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel STREBECK, Sallisaw enlisted in the army October 22, 1942 and was sent to Camp Roberts, Calif., for his first training. He is married and has four children. STREBECK was given a medical discharge in the spring of 1943.

Waylon STAFFAN is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest STAFFAN, Pinole, Calif., formerly of Hanson. He attended school at Central high and was employed by the state highway department in Sequoyah county before entering the service March 27, 1943. He was killed several moths ago on duty in the south Pacific. His wife is the former Cherry MILLER.

Clay B. SCOTT, S2/c, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. SCOTT, enlisted in the Navy April 14, 1943 and took his boot training at San Diego, Calif. SCOTT graduated from Sallisaw high school and was farming at the time he entered service. His wife is the former Evelyn MILLER.

Corporal Lukie SMITH, son of Mrs. Mary PLANT, enlisted December 23, 1939 and was sent to Fort McDowell, Calif. for his training. He was stationed at Angel Island and Hawaii and is now at Yucca, Ariz. SMITH has one sister, Flora GALES, who lives at Pampa, Texas.

Kenneth M. SHACKELFORD, son of J. Marshal SHACKELFORD, enlisted in the Navy March 6, 1945 and was sent to San Diego, Calif., for his training. He has one brother, Dale SHACKELFORD, who is also in the navy, and a sister, Hazel MOBLEY, who lives in Bristow.

Pfc. John Wesley LAY, 23 years old, entered the army Feb. 3, 1941. He was stationed in the Philippine Islands at the time of the sneak attack Dec. 7, 1941, and was taken prisoner on Corregidor. He is now at Camp Osaka, Japan.

Sgt. Theo G. SMITH is stationed in Memphis with a ferrying group. He was inducted into the army January 13, 1943, at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Prior to induction, Sgt. SMITH was a clerk for the Veterans Administration, located in St. Louis. Before moving to Memphis, Sgt. SMITH was a physical training instructor for the army in Brownsville, Texas. Mrs. SMITH and their daughter, Margaret Jo are in Memphis with the sergeant. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. O. G. SMITH of Sallisaw.

Sgt. Frank ISRAEL, is stationed somewhere in England. He holds the rating of first sergeant. He was inducted on March 18, 1941. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Burgin ISRAEL of Gans, he went to school at Buffington, Brent, and graduated from the Gans high school. He has one brother and three sisters.

John Vernon HOUSER was a member of the fighting force that participated in the North African campaign and went on in the big push to Italy. Still located in Italy, he has been overseas since August of 1943. HOUSER enlisted in the service in the summer of 1941. He was farming before that time. A member of the 1940 graduating class of the Sallisaw high school, HOUSER later attended college at Connor's, in Warner. His wife lives on route 2, Sallisaw, as do his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. HOUSER.

Joshua GLASS hold the rating of AMM2/c with the navy. He was a carpenter and mechanic, before he went in the navy Sept. 17, 1942. The sailor went to school at Chilocco Indian school. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John GLASS of Sallisaw. His wife, Lola and their six children also live in Sallisaw.

James F. HOWELL is doing military police duty in Stockton, Calif. He is, the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. HOWELL of Muldrow. He was born in Long and went to school at New Hope and Sallisaw high. He enlisted August 6, 1942, with the air corps and was trained in Florida for MP duty. He recently visited his parents in Muldrow. He has six sisters and four brothers. He was a farmer before entering the army.

Pvt. Saint E. CHILDERS entered the service Nov. 17, 1942 with a military police division and was sent to Camp Robinson, Ark. Later he was moved to Houston, then Huntsville, Tex. and on to Camp Mobley, Tex. At the present he is taking additional training with an engineering division at Paris, Tex. A farmer before becoming a soldier, his wife Robbie and their small daughter, Sharon Erlyne live on route one, Sallisaw. Pvt. CHILDERS' parents, Mr. and Mrs. James A. CHILDERS, former county residents, now live in Wichita, Kan. CHILDERS attended the Akins grade school and the Sallisaw high school.

Pfc. Charles E. FARMER is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred FARMER of Muldrow. He went to school in Muldrow and went in the service Feb. 20, 1943 and was first stationed at Camp Howze. He was moved from there to his present station, Camp Livingston, La. An army cook, he was employed by the Ft. Smith furniture factory prior to going in the service.

Argile A. SMITH is stationed at Camp Wallace, Texas, where he received his boot training with the navy, SMITH is the 18-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. George E. SMITH of Gans. Now holding the rating of seaman, second class, he entered the navy May 18, 1944. He is a graduate of Gans school.

Sgt. Floyd WOODWARD has been overseas for more than a year. He sailed for the British Isles in September of 1943. He went in the service Jan. 19, 1941 and was first trained at Camp Barkley, Texas. Sgt. WOODWARD had a part in the conversion of a disused British munitions plant into an assembly line for American vehicles that made the invasion of France a success. His wife, Hazel and son, Pat live in Vian. His mother is Mettie WOODWARD of Marble City.

Harry R. RIDGEWAY is stationed at Alliance, Neb. He was a shipyard worker before going in the service December 22, 1942. RIDGEWAY took his basic training at Sheppard Field, Texas. He is a glider mechanic. He is the son of Mrs. Cora Belle RIDGEWAY of Sallisaw.

Opal Jerie CURL is stationed in Fort Bragg, N. C., where he holds the rating of staff sergeant. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. CURL of Muldrow. Curl's wife, Mary and their son, Jerry Thomas, live in Tulsa. S/Sgt. CURL entered the army in Colorado and was sent to Camp Forrest, Tenn. He is stationed at Fort Bragg, at the present.

Carnell C. DOBBS is serving with the colors somewhere in France, after receiving an award for his bravery in action on the Italian battlefront. He has been overseas for two years. He entered the services December 16, 1939. Before that date he was engaged in farming in the county.

William F. DOBBS, a brother of the soldier, is serving with the navy, and has been at sea since September of last year. Like his brother he went to school at Central High and farmed before going in the service in June, 1943. Sons of Fide H. DOBBS, they have another brother, John, and a sister, Lahoma QUINTON, both of Hanson.

Clemo PERCEFUL is now in New Guinea. He received his basic training at Fort Warren, Wyo., after going in the service Dec. 28, 1942. Since leaving Wyoming, he has been at Stockton, Calif., Pittsburg, Calif., and from there went overseas. Pfc. PERCEFUL's wife Helen Oleta and their small daughter, Donna Carol live at Roland, as do PERCEFUL's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde PERCEFUL.

Bill F. WOFFORD is in radio school at Scott Field, Ill. A 1943 graduate of the Sallisaw schools, he went in the army air corps June 8, 1943. His first station was Sheppard Field, Texas. He is a brother to Dewey WOFFORD.

Dewey B. WOFFORD wears a staff sergeant's stripes and is first engineer aboard a Flying Fortress in England. He went in the service Feb. 2, 1943 and was first trained at Seppard Field, Texas. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom WOFFORD, he graduated from Sallisaw high school in 1940 and went to Connor's in Warner for two years.

Lee Ray POHLMAN has a part in the invasion of France. One of his experiences during the French campaign was when he dug his first foxhole-and got it too deep and it caved in. Before going to France he was in England. Pohlman was working in a munitions factory when he was called to the service in December, 1942. His first training was at Fort Warren, Wyoming, where he was with the quartermaster corps. From the western states, he was sent to Pennsylvania. His parents are Alex POHLMAN, Paden, and Mrs. Jerry WILLIAMSON, Wilmington, Calif.

Edgar Stephen STUBBS was learning the carpenter trade when he was inducted in the army September 29, 1943. He was assigned to the medical corps and sent to Boise, Idaho. He was sent from Idaho to Walla Walla, Wash., with the rating of private, first class. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank STUBBS, Palm City, Calif.

Frank James BREASHEARS was a farmer before he went in the service October 22, 1941. He was made private, first class June 10, 1943 and corporal Aug. 10, 1943. His wife, Plura and their son, Jimmy Ray live in Vian, as do his two brothers and one sister. His father is Walter BREASHEARS, also of Vian.

Pvt. Walter SASSER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry SASSER, who live on route two, Sallisaw, entered service February 17, 1943 and took his basic training at Camp Robert and Fort Ord, Calif. He has been overseas for eight months.

Marine Pvt. Ira EDWARDS, Jr. , age 20, practices daily with dummy ammunition to speed up his rifle technique at Camp Matthews, San Diego, Calif. His wife, Mrs. Ellen FAULKNER EDWARDS lives on Muldrow, route four.

Pfc. Elmer DENNIS, son of Mrs. Rose Ella TEEHEE, known to his friends as "Doogie" is somewhere in France. He spent two years training in the States and was first sent to England when he went overseas. Prior to his enlistment he was employed at Braggs.

Sgt. Jerome LEWIS entered the United States Marine Corps in July of 1943 and took his basic training in San Diego, Calif. In December of 1944 he was sent overseas and at present is serving in Guam. Sergeant LEWIS attended Sallisaw schools and made his home with the H. W. MOORE family. His grandmother. Mrs. Etta ANDERSON, makes her home at Hatfield, Ark.

Col. Earl J. ROGERS Muldrow entered active duty at Oklahoma City November 25, 1939 and served in California, Washington state, Alaska and Fort Bliss. He now holds the good conduct medal, the Asiatic Pacific ribbon and the American defense ribbon with bronze star.

Cpl. Milton PETERS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert PETERS, Sallisaw entered service December 8, 1943 and took his basic training at the Ordinance Proving Grounds at Aberdeen, Md., before going overseas. He is now stationed on Iwo Jima island. His wife, Mrs. Wynona PETERS and son, Albert Lewis, are making their home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. WALKINGSTICK, at Dwight Mission for the duration.

Pvt. Clifford C. GABLE, son of Louis GABLE was killed in action in France August 8, 1944. He entered service November 26, 1943 and took his basic training in Georgia where he was assigned to an infantry division. He went overseas in July of 1944.

Leroy ROBERTS was a member of the invasion forces in France. He was inducted Feb. 23, 1943, and took anti-aircraft training at Shreveport, La. and Camp Hulen, Texas, going to England in February, 1944, where he remained until he joined the invasion forces. Mr. and Mrs. Jim ROBERTS, route 1, Sallisaw, are his parents.

George MORTON, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert MORTON, Short, was assigned to a medical detachment upon induction February, 1943. After completing training at Camp Mackall and Camp Polk he was sent to New Guinea, where he is now stationed. His wife and one son make their home in Vian. He has a brother, Walter MORTON, with the army somewhere in New Guinea and a brother and sister at Short, Okla.

Leroy Lee HARRISON is serving with the army in Alaska, since completing his training. Prior to his induction into the service he was engaged in farming. He is the son of the late L. L. HARRISON and Mrs. HARRISON, Sallisaw; and has three brothers, Elgin at home and Claudie and Elmer in the army.

Claudie NABORS entered the service October 26, 1941 and was overseas more than a year. He was a member of the invasion force which landed in France on D-Day. He was wounded while fighting with an infantry division.

A/C Earl W. STEPHENSON, son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. STEPHENSON, route two Sallisaw, was killed during a training flight 19 miles southwest of Gardner Field, California. STEPHENSON entered service October 12, 1942 and was sent to Gardner Field for his basic training. He has two brothers. Pfc. Ralph STEPHENSON and Pvt. Jess MATTINGLY who are both stationed in Germany with the army.

Pvt. Oscar CARDIN, husband of Mrs. Lillie CARDIN, Muldrow, was killed at Luxembourg, February 9, 1945. He took his basic training at Fort Sill and Fort McClellan, Ala. before being assigned to an infantry replacement division overseas. He has four children. Oscar, Jr., Jimmie Lee, Coy Vincen and Kenneth Ray.

Marvin H. MASTERSON, son of Mary G. MASTERSON, formerly of Sallisaw now of Huntington Park, Calif., is now overseas with the 309th Medical battalion. MASTERSON took his basic training at Camp Howze, Texas and at Shreveport, La.

Tech. Fifth Grade Aaron C. WATERS, son of Mr. and Mrs. John O. WATERS, was wounded in action in Germany April 12, 1945. WATERS was sent to England in 1943 and crossed the channel on D-Day. He was employed by the Nesch Coal Company before enlisting in November of 1942. WATERS has seven sisters and four brothers, three of whom are in service.

Paul R. HARVELL was wounded in Germany March 19, 1945 while serving with the 104th Infantry division in the European are and received the Purple Heart for wounds received January 28. He was employed in the Richmond, Calif. shipyards when he enlisted May 30, 1944. His wife and two sons, Paul Douglas and Albert Pike make their home at Muldrow.

Henry Ford REGER has completed 50 missions in the African-Italian campaign as a fighter pilot. He enlisted in the army air corps January 15, 1942. He holds the rating of first lieutenant and is located at the army air base in Santa Rosa, Calif. A civil engineer, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Max REAGER of Sallisaw.

James Leland WOFFORD holds the rating of seaman first class with the navy. He went in the navy July 18, 1942. Before enlisting , he farmed. Mr. WOFFORD is a graduate of the Central high school. his wife, Lela Jean is making her home in Sallisaw. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Matt D. WOFFORD.

Euel WOODWARD is a seaman second class with the navy. Employed by a railroad company, he went in the service April 7, 1944. His first training was at Camp Peary, Va. He received his promotion to second class rating at Newport, R. I. The sailor's wife, Opal and their children will make their home in Sequoyah county.

Pfc. Amos Marion JILES is stationed somewhere in England. He went in the service April 8, 1943 and was first stationed at Fort Sill. He was moved to Camp Livingston, La., before going overseas. He is the son of Mrs. Myrtle C. JILES of Sallisaw. he was born at Long and went to school at Central High. Until the time of enlisting in the service he was employed by the Mid-Continent Refinery in Tulsa.

Cpl. Artho Douglas OWEN is somewhere in France with a signal corps unit of the air force. He went in the army December 28, 1942. Before that time he was a painter and carpenter. OWEN, since going in the service, has been at Atlantic City, N.J., Coyne Electrical school, Chicago, Reno, Nev., Fresco, Calif. When he left the States, OWEN first sailed to England. A graduate of the Sallisaw schools, OWEN is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. OWEN of route one.

Horace Russell O'DONNELL has been promoted to flight engineer. He went in the service August 9, 1943 and was first located at Pennsylvania University with a cadet class. He has been stationed at Nashville, Tenn., Blanding Field, Fla., Lincoln Air Base, Lincoln, Nebr., Mt. Home Air Base, Mt. Home, Idaho. A graduate of the McLoud high school, he was employed as an airplane inspector before going in the army. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. E. A. O'DONNELL of Sallisaw.

Cecil Malloy ORENDORFF is with the navy and spends part of his time at sea with the Atlantic fleet. He went in the navy April 7, of this year. Before going in the navy ORENDORFF was manager of the Oklahoma Tire and Supply store in Sallisaw. He was graduated from the Sallisaw high school in 1937 and attended school at Northeastern, Tahlequah and Southeastern, Durant. After going in service, he was sent to Camp Perry, Williamsburg, Va. Laura Helen, the sailor's wife, and their two sons, Gary M., and Richard Clark live in Sallisaw. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. O. M. ORENDORFF.

Quentin WALKUP is stationed at Kirtland Field, N.M. He enlisted July 10, 1942 and was called Feb. 3, 1943, and was sent to Santa Ana Army Air Base as a cadet. He was commissioned a second lieutenant when he got his wings on December 5, 1943 and assigned as an instructor to the Fort Summer air base in New Mexico. A vocational agriculture teacher before enlistment, WALKUP is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry WALKUP of near Sallisaw. His wife, Ruby GOWIN WALKUP lives in Stigler.

Roy Vesta WATKINS has a second class rating in radio work, with the navy. WATKINS entered the navy January 2, 1942. A 1941 graduate of the Sallisaw schools, WATKINS' wife Eula Doris and their eight-month-old daughter live in San Jose, Calif. His mother, Mrs. Eula Z. WATKINS lives near Sallisaw.

Jessie James WISWELL is a 17 year-old sailor rated as seaman second class. he is serving overseas now with the fleet. A former before going in the service on April 9, 1944, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. WISWELL of Sallisaw, route 4. He took his basic training at the Great Lakes, Ill., station.

Sgt. Edward C. GALLOWAY has been stationed at Camp Wolters, Texas, Ft. Snelling, Min. and Camp Crowder, Mo. He was first trained with a military police unit, but is at the present with the medical corps at Camp Ellis, Ill. His wife, Ruth MCKINNEY GALLOWAY lives in Illinois and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alva C. GALLOWAY, live in Sallisaw. Before going in the service in July, 1941, he was a clerk in the Seaman Store.

Pvt. Leroy ZULKEY is now somewhere in the Southwest Pacific. Born in Twin Falls, Idaho, he went to school in Seminole and Sallisaw. While attending school in Sallisaw, he was co-captain of the football team in 1940-41. He was president of the student council in 1940-41. ZULKEY went in the service Nov. 10, 1943 and was first sent to Camp Callan, Calif., for his basic training and on to Fort Ord for combat training. His wife, Peggy Lou, and their son, Michael Joe live with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe RIGSBY. ZULKEY's father is Luther ZULKEY of Chelsea. He was reared by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. F. BROWN of Seminole.

Hooley Joy SPARKS, first class petty officer, enlisted in the navy in March 1942 and was sent to Pearl Harbor upon completion of his boot training. His daughter, Joyce is making her home in Richmond, Calif. After serving 27 months at Pearl Harbor he returned to the states for 60 days and then went to Midway Island.

Benjamin Franklin SPARKS, who attended school at Dwight Mission, went into the National Guard in Sept. 1939 and served two years, in 1941 he enlisted in the army and took his basic training at Fort Devens, Mass. before being sent overseas. Mr. SPARKS has served in Africa, Sicily, Italy and Germany.

Earl Preston SPARKS, enlisted in the army in July of 1942 and took his basic training at El Paso, Texas. He was farming at the time he entered service. He was given a medical discharge in December 1944. He has a wife Florence and daughter Earline.
Pvt. J. L. (Sonny) SPARKS JR. entered the service, June 22, 1944 and was sent to Camp Wolters, Texas, for his basic training. He is now in the South Pacific area. The SPARKS brother are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Lester SPARKS.

M/Sgt. John S. WRIGHT, son of Mrs. Lester SPARKS, enlisted in the Marine air corps, in June of 1940 and was sent to Pearl Harbor after his basic training was completed. He was wounded in the December 7 attack and returned to the states for 90 days, after which he left again for overseas duty.

James LEE was working on a defense job in California before he entered the service in July, 1944. He is stationed at Avalon, Calif. Parents of the three boys are Mr. and Mrs. L. R. LEE, now deceased.

Sgt. Coon C. LEE has been overseas for over a year with a bomber squadron group. Before his induction in May, 1942, he was working for the telephone company in Cody, Wyo., where his wife, now resides.

Eugene LEE was a student when he enlisted in 1941. A veteran of the North African campaign he took part in the invasion of France, and received the Purple Heart, for wounds received in action. He is now in a hospital in England.

S 1/c Wayne Dean WATTS enlisted in the navy July 30, 1942. After completing his training he was sent to the South Pacific. WATTS is a graduate of Sallisaw High, and before entering the service, was assistant commission agent for the Phillips 66 Oil Co. here. The WATTS brothers are sons of Clinton C. WATTS. Their sister Cletis also lives in Sallisaw.

T/Sgt. Clinton Loftin WATTS was shot down over Germany April 29, 1944, and was a prisoner of war of the German government, until recently. He was employed by the Sallisaw State Bank at the time he enlisted December 15, 1941. A 1936 graduate of Sallisaw schools, he was prominent in athelitics in school and held the office of class president during his senior year.

S/Sgt. Jack WOODS, who was a prisoner of the Germans for many months was liberated recently. On July 29 he had completed his 48th mission in combat. he was a tail gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress. WOODS went into the army in Feb. 1943 and was sent to Ft. Sill, and from there to Keesler Field, Miss. and took gunnery training. Sgt. WOODS is the son of Mrs. Junie WOODS, Oklahoma City, formerly of Sallisaw. He attended school at Price's Chapel and Sallisaw high.

Sgt. Albert Jerry BLACKBURN was wounded in action on the day of the invasion of France, June 6. He was returned to England, to a hospital. He was trained for duty with the tank corps at Fort Knox, Ky. He received his rating as corporal then sergeant in training.

Sgt. Arthur BLACKBURN is a brother of Albert Jerry. Both sergeants are sons of Mr. and Mrs. A. Y. BLACKBURN of Hanson. Arthur BLACKBURN was a teacher before going in the medical corps, having obtained his education at Hanson, Central High, Connors at Warner and Northeastern at Tahlequah. He is now an instructor in aerial gunnery in Yuma, Ariz. The brothers have four sisters.

Cpl. Vernon G. MCEVER know to his friends as Pete, was inducted into the army, February 8, 1943. He was stationed at Monterey, Calif., and Alamagorda, New Mexico, before going overseas for service with the air corps. Cpl. MCEVER is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud MCEVER, former Hanson residents, now living in Santa Rita Park, Calif. His wife and son are also making their home in Santa Rita.

Pvt. Guy M. MCEVER, brother to Cpl. Vernon MCEVER entered service in the army in November, 1942. He has basic training at Camp Roberts, California. MCEVER went to school at Hanson and Central High and was engaged in farming before entering the service. He has been overseas for several months.

Simon BUSH, fire controlman is the son of Sam and Maggie BUSH of Vian route. He received the Purple Heart in October, 1944 for battle injuries he received aboard the destroyer Glennon when the warship was sunk while supporting Allied landings on France during the invasion.

Pvt. Albert J. SMITHSON, Gore, was reported missing in action in Germany, since December 12, 1944. Pvt. SMITHSON entered the service March 14, 1943, received training at Camp Fannin, Texas and left the states in August 1944. His wife and two children live in Gore.

Merel RITTER, S 1/c, enlisted in the navy at Richmond, Calif. where he was working as a welder in the shipyards. RITTER was wounded the 11th of December while serving in the south Pacific and was presented the Purple Heart. His parent, Mr. and Mrs. Albert RITTER, live at Vian. Mr. RITTER is a veteran of World War I.

Clyde RODEN, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. RODEN, Stilwell, route 2, took his basic training at Fort Francis E. Warren, Wyoming. RODEN attended school at Price's Chapel and Sallisaw and helped his father on the farm before he enlisted.

Cpl. Clarence PINSON, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. PINSON, attended school at Sallisaw and was a truck driver and salesman before entering service. He took his basic training at Jefferson Barrack, Mo., and Scott Field, Ill. PINSON received his Corporal rating at the army air force's technical school at Madison, Wis.

Raymond PINSON, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. PINSON, is now stationed in England as a typist and clerk in Force Headquarters. He attended a business school in England. Prior to his enlistment PINSON attended Sallisaw schools and Connor's State Agriculture college. He took his basic training at Fort Sill and Camp Barkley, Texas.

S/Sgt. James Olen CLAUNCH was killed in action February 21, 1945 and was buried at Alsace, Lorraine. Enlisting August 10, 1943, he took his basic training at Camp Adair, Oregon and later became a member of the famous Trailblazers Division at Fort Leonard Wood. He is the son of Mr. and Mr. J. G. CLAUNCH and his wife, Mrs. Golia CLAUNCH is employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., in Sallisaw.

Pfc. Merle C. REMER, son of Mr. E. P. REMER, route 1, Gore, has been awarded the Expert Infantryman badge at a base somewhere in the central Pacific area, according to announcement made by Major General Ralph C. Smith. The attainment of this badge and high honor attests to the physical stamina, proficiency in shooting and all-round infantry training.

Pfc. William Walter GIBBINS, USMC, was the first Sallisaw boy to make the supreme sacrifice. He was killed in action in July, 1943, on New Georgia in the Solomon Islands. He entered the service May 21, 1942 and was sent to San Diego for training. Late in January 1943 he was promoted to private first class before going overseas. Walter was a native of Sallisaw being born her 21 years ago, he had lived her all his life. His parent , Mr. and Mrs. John GIBBINS, three brothers and three sisters reside in Sallisaw.

Eugene C. GIBBINS the 19 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John GIBBINS, was born in Sallisaw and went to school here before his induction, June 29, 1943. He was assigned to the air corps at Sheppard Field, Texas, before being sent to the Admiralty Islands as a truck driver. A brother, Walter, USMC, was killed in action in the south Pacific last year. His father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. John GIBBINS, reside in Sallisaw, with his three sisters and two brothers of the soldier.

L. E. DERRINGTON went into the army seven years ago and received his training at Norfolk, Va. He attended grade school at Barnsdall and graduated from high school at Houston, Texas, a short time before his entry into the service. DERRINGTON is a grandson of Jim DERRINGTON of Marble City and has one brother living in the state of Ohio.

S. Sgt. Earl ROBERSON volunteered for the army air corps June, 1941, and was sent to the Portland air base, Portland, Ore. where he has been stationed permanently. His wife, Emma Lou makes her home in Vian, while his father, Ervin R. ROBERSON, lives in New Mexico.

James Frances RIGSBY, a graduate of Hollywood high school was attending the University of California when he entered service. After his training period was ended he was sent overseas and is now somewhere in Africa. His wife is Mrs. Harriet Ann RIGSBY. They have one daughter, Linda Lou.

Lt. Eugene G. RIGSBY was attending the University of California when inducted Jan. 14, 1942. He was assigned to the air corps and made a pilot when he completed his training. A veteran of the campaigns in Africa, Sicily and Italy he was awarded the air medal and Oak Leaf cluster, the Purple Heart, for wounds received in action, a presidential citation and has been recommended for the D.F.C. He is now recuperating in DeWitt General hospital, Auburn Calif. His wife and daughter reside in Indianapolis, Ind. The parents of both boys are deceased. Their father, James F. RIGSBY, better known as "Son" was a well know Sequoyah county resident.

Pvt. William C. REDDEN, 26 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. N. M. REDDEN, Muldrow, died Aug. 4, at Altape, New Guinea of Scrub Typhus, the war department has notified his wife, Mrs. Myrtle REDDEN, Muldrow. Private REDDEN had been in foreign service 18 months, and is survived in addition to wife and parents, by a daughter, a brother and two sisters.

Pfc. Evert Byrd CALHOUN, JR., 22 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Everet B. CALHOUN, Sallisaw route 4, was inducted into the army November 17, 1942. While in advanced training at Camp Rucker, Alabama, he received a medal as expert infantryman. Pfc. CALHOUN, who was a farmer before entering the service attended school at Gans and Sallisaw. He has five brothers and three sisters.

James Boyce REEDER, R. M. 3/C is now at sea, after taking his training at Great Lakes naval training station, and at the Madison, Wis., radio school. He has been in the service since October 1942, and was a carpenter before that time. Mr. and Mrs. Will REEDER of Sallisaw are his parents.

Pvt. Finis EDWARDS was a farmer before his induction into the army, Nov. 17, 19142. He received his basic training at Camp Robinson, Little Rock, Ark. Pvt. EDWARDS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grover EDWARDS, Muldrow, has one brother and one sister, also living in Muldrow. He is a grandson of Mrs. Lou MCGEE.

Martin F. DUDLEY, S 2-c completed a special course in technical electricity. His duties include installation, repair and maintenance of electrical equipment. Seaman DUDLEY had attended a school for electricians before entering the navy in August, 1942. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. DUDLEY, Sallisaw, and has one brother and three sisters all living here. DUDLEY has recently been given an honorable discharge.

Sgt. Garth J. WRIGLEY has been in England since February, 1944. He had been attending Connor's college, Warner, prior to his enlistment in December, 1942. He took his basic training at Sheppard Field, Texas, and was stationed at Ft. Wayne, Ind., at the time that he received his overseas orders. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert WRIGLEY, Vian.

Watie Lee KYLE is boatmate 1/C on board the U. S. S. Crater, a cargo ship. Two months from the time of his enlistment, July 30, 1942, he was assigned to duty on ship board, and has not returned to the States since that time. He was a welder in civilian life.

Sgt. Troy Willard KYLE, formerly a carpenter, was inducted Jan. 19, 1941, and sent to Fort Jan. 19, 1941, and sent to Fort Sill. From there he went to Camp Barkley, Tex. Assigned to duty in the Panama Canal zone, he later returned to the States before being sent to England prior to joining the invasion forces in France. His wife, makes her home in Sallisaw. The two boys are sons of Mr. and Mrs. James KYLE, Sallisaw. They have five brothers.

Thomas Josephus SPENCER, JR. went in the navy Aug. 8, 1942, and was sent to the naval training station at San Diego. He was later promoted to metalsmith, second class. He spent 17 months overseas, and had a furlough home in August, 1944. During his overseas service, he was located on several of the central Pacific islands. He is 19 years old.

Kenneth Dale SPENCER enlisted in the marine corps January 9, 1941. He has been stationed at Barstow, Calif. at a supply depot, and is now overseas with the marines. The three brothers were born in Hanson. They are sons of Mrs. Lillie Ella SPENCER and the late Thomas J. SPENCER of Muldrow.

Ottis O'Neal SPENCER died in Africa May 27, and is buried in Oran, Algiers. He went in the service October 14, 1939, with a quartermaster's division. He sailed for England July 21, 1942, later was sent to North Africa, and was promoted to staff sergeant during the African campaign. His wife, Sylvia and their daughter, Sara Ellen, live in Redwood Falls, Minn.

Douglas E. HARKREADER, S 1-c was going to school before he enlisted in the navy in August, 1941. He went into active service with the fleet as soon as his training was over. Seaman HARKREADER has two brothers in the service, one is an airplane inspector near Honolulu and the other is stationed at Pearl Harbor. These service men are the sons of George HARKREADER.

Co. Aubrey K. DODSON, a graduate of Sallisaw high school, attended WEst Point Military academy, graduating in 1930 with rank of second lieutenant in the air corps. After being stationed in Texas two years he was transferred to the Philippine Islands, where he was stationed seven years. In 1942 he was given the rank of lieutenant colonel, and was assigned to Gen. Yount's staff in Washington D. C. Col. DODSON is now commanding officer of the seventh bombardment group, Tenth Air Force, Eastern Air Command, in India, and has won the Silver Star medal for a daring attack from a base in India on a highly important railroad in Siam. His family consists of a wife and three daughters, two of the girls being twins.

Sgt. Joseph Curtis DODSON is a graduate of Henderson State college, Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and attended Iowa State college. At the time of his induction October, 1942, he was employed by the government. Taking his basic training at Keesler Field, Miss. with the army air corps, he was assigned to the weather observation branch of the air corps. His present headquarters are near the Arctic Circle in northwestern Yukon Territory, Canada, where he reports a very mild winter, the temperature having gone only to 54 degrees below zero. His wife, Dorothy, makes her home in Los Angeles. The two Dodson boys are sons of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. DODSON, formerly Sallisaw residents, now living in San Pedro, Calif.

Leonard James GREEN volunteered for service in the navy in 1940, and since completing his training has spent most of the time on duty at sea. Before going into service he was engaged in farming. GREEN is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver C. GREEN, former Muldrow residents, now living in Las Cruses, N. M. He is a nephew of O. W. and I. J. GREEN and Mrs. Will EVANS of Muldrow, and has a brother, Alvin, also in the navy stationed in Australia.

Pfc. Arvil HENSON, member of the Army Air Corps, enlisted in the service eight days after Pearl Harbor, and went to Camp Robinson, Ark. Other camps where he received training were Jefferson Barracks, Mo., and Merced, Calif. While at Merced, his duties were in the filing department. Caswell B. BLACKARD, Ph. M 3/C went to school in Muldrow, also attended Northeastern State college, Tahlequah, and was a welfare worker before entering the service. He took his first training at San Diego, and is now stationed in the Pacific war area.

Sgt. Scott R. BLACKARD has been stationed in the Hawaiian Island since Dec. 1, 1942. Born in Muldrow, he went to school there and at Northeastern State College, Tahlequah, entering the service October, 1942. Before that time he was a merchant. His wife, the former Jerrine CHEEK, and their small daughter, are making their home in Muldrow. The three service men are sons of Mrs. Etta BLACKARD, of Muldrow.

Pfc. Thomas Grady ROBERTS enlisted for service and had his basic training at Ft. Sill where he was a truck driver. Later he was reclassified and assigned to the medical corps at Camp White, Ore. Jack M. HOLT, 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charley B. HOLT, Vian, was reported killed in action in France July 16, 1944. He had been in service since May 8, 1943, with a tank destroyer unit.

L. O. HOLT, S 2/C is another son of Mr. and Mrs. Charley HOLT, Vian. He was engaged in defense work in Phoenix, Ariz., when inducted Nov. 17, 1943. He took his boot training at Camp Peary, Va., later going to Davis Field, R. I. where he is now stationed. His wife, Phyllis, and two children live in Vian.

Cleda Clifton HOLT, 20 year old, enlisted in the Waves. Went to New York for boot training, from there to Texas, and is now, located in Alabama. She is a graduate of Roland high school and Tulsa business college.
Dayton V. B. HOLT, USMC, was inducted June 14, 1944. He took his boot training at San Diego, and is now stationed with the fleet marine force at Oceanside, Calif. His wife, Geneva, and small son reside in Van Buren.

S/Sgt. David L. LUTON enlisted May 27, 1941 and was assigned to a signal corps detachment at Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga., from where he was transferred to the air corps, and later to the air transport command with the south Atlantic air force, Brazil, where he was made staff sergeant in the medical administrative corps. After being overseas 19 months he was returned to the States, June 13, 1944. He is now at Camp Barkley, Tex., awaiting re-assignment. LUTON is a graduate of Sallisaw high school and Peabody college, Nashville.

Joseph Morris LUTON is a member of the U. S. naval hospital staff in Philadelphia. Before his induction April 1, 1944, he was a pharmacist in Union City, Tenn. He received his education in Sallisaw, and Peabody college, Nashville, later attending a school of pharmacy in Denver. Before entering the service he was a member of the Tennessee State guards. He has a wife and two children residing in Union City. Joe is now located "somewhere" in Germany. Joe and David are the sons of Mrs. William O. LUTON of Sallisaw.

Sgt. Edward C. GALLOWAY, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alva C. GALLOWAY, Sallisaw, has been stationed at Camp Wolters, Texas, Ft. Snelling, Minn. and Camp Crowder, Mo. He was first trained with a military police unit and served as an M. P. for several moths at Camp Crowder, Mo., but went later to Camp Ellis, Ill., with a medical corps unit. His wife, Ruth MCKINNEY GALLOWAY lives in Illinois. Before going into the service in July 1941, he was a clerk for Seaman Store, Sallisaw.

Sgt. Manuel Leroy PETERS, grandson of Rev. and Mrs. J. A. PETERS, Sallisaw, entered the army June 17, 1938, took his basic training at Vancouver, Wash. afterward her became chief clerk in the pay master's office at Hobbs Field, New Mexico.

Pvt. George G. POOL 21, son of Mrs. Sam POOL, enlisted in the army air corps October 29, 1942, and was sent to the army air school at Laredo, Texas. Pvt. POOL attended Central high school and was at NYA metal school at Muskogee at the time he entered service.

Lt. Gene W. REDDEN enlisted in the army in October of 1939 and was sent to Fort Sill for his basic training. He was later stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, Seattle, Wash., and in California. Lt. REDDEN later went to an army base in Florida. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mose REDDEN, Muldrow.

Capt. Lyle Norman EDMONDS is serving as group communications officer of a bombardment group stationed somewhere in England. A graduate of Vian high school, he attended Connor's college, Warner, before enlisting August, 1940. His basic training was received at Lowly Field, Colo. In September, 1942 he graduated from "officers" candidate school at Miami Beach, Fla., going overseas in January, 1944.

F/O Vernon Albert EDMONDS, 19 year old, was a student when he enlisted August 10, 1943 and was sent to Miami Beach, Fla. Going on to Midland, Texas, he graduated Sept. 30, 1944, from bombardier school as flight officer. He is now stationed at Westover Field, Boston.

George West EDMONDS was born in Vian. Received his education there and at Connors college , Warner. He was working in the shipyards on the west coast when he enlisted October, 1943, and was assigned to the air corps. He has been overseas for nearly a year. He is now stationed in England with the maintenance section of the army air force. The parent of the EDMONDS boys are Mr. and Mrs. H. A. EDMONDS, Berkeley, Calif., former Vian residents.

Frank O. ROARK, 19-year-old infantry may, entered the service June, 1943, and was sent to North Africa the following November. From there he went to Italy, and was wounded at Cassino, receiving the Purple Heart. He returned to the states in May, 1944, and is now in the Asburn General hospital at McKinney, Texas. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. ROARK, route 1, Vian.

Cpl. William BOLIN, JR. of Marble City, is with the 15th AAF in Italy. He has recently been assigned as a tail gunner in a 15th air force Flying Fortress squadron operating from an advanced base in Italy. His B-17 group has been bombing Germany, France, Austria and the Balkan countries. BOLIN entered the AAF in June 1943. He received his gunner's wings at Kingman, Ariz., in May 1944. After advanced flight training he was sent overseas and assigned to his present squadron in September, 1944.

Sgt.. Jack Lee SHERMER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud M. SHERMER, Muldrow, enlisted October 27, 1942, and took his basic training at Sheppard Field, Texas, and at at army air base in Florida. Sgt.. SHERMER is a graduate of Muldrow high school and was employed in an aircraft factory at the time he entered service.

Lockhart JACKSON, son of Dove JACKSON, Vian, entered the service March 17, 1943 and was sent to Ft. McClellan for training before going overseas. He was with the fifth army in Italy for a year before receiving wounds that made him unable to return to combat duty. He was awarded the Purple Heart and returned to the States to recuperate. After spending a 23 day leave with his family he has reported to Hot Springs for re-assignment.

O. S. RICHARDSON, S 2/C, 24-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Richardson, route 1, Sallisaw, enlisted in the Navy November 11, 1942 and took his basic training at San Diego, Calif. Seaman RICHARDSON was engaged in farming before he entered the service.

Jack Moore HORN was inducted December, 1943, and was stationed with the 193rd Infantry Battalion at Camp Blanding, Fla., for six months. He recently received a medical discharge. He was employed by Douglas Aircraft Co. at Tulsa before going in the Army.

Guy Kelly HORN was employed by an aircraft plant at San Diego at the time of his induction July, 1943 and was assigned to duty with the merchant marines, at St. Petersburg, Fla. and Charleston, S. C. He is now somewhere in France. Kelly was born in Vian and went to school there, graduating high school, and later enrolling in the University of Alabama.

Pfc. Clyde Morris HORN is now seeing duty in the Pacific theater, being located somewhere in New Guinea. Cpl. James Aaron DUTY whose service record is excellent, is ready for overseas duty. Cpl. DUTY was called to the service November 23, 1942 and was first located at Needles, Calif., with a coastal artillery unit. From Needles he went to Camp Haan, Calif. where he received his rating as corporal. His next move was a six weeks training period with the infantry at Camp Carson Colo. Col. DUTY's wife, Kathlyn lives on route one, Sallisaw. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert DUTY also live on route one, where the soldier was engaged in farming before entering the army.

S/Sgt. Thomas Raymond DUTY is a brother to the corporal. (James Aaron Duty) He went through the Sicilian campaign and is a post office clerk at an army base in Italy now. Sgt. Duty was called to the army December 6, 1941, the day before Pearl Harbor. He has been at San Diego, Ft. Bliss, Texas, Camp Picket, Va. and back to Ft. Bliss before receiving overseas duty. A farmer by occupation he went to school at Sloan's Chapel, Central high and to Connor's at Warner. Like his brother, Sgt. DUTY was first assigned to a coastal artillery outfit on the west coast.

Ernest Oliver RENFRO was employed at the shipyards in California when he was inducted March, 1944. He is now taking training at San Diego. His wife lives on route 3, Muldrow. Mr. and Mrs. Ed RENFRO, Hanson are father and mother of the three boys. (Ernest, Raymond, George) Raymond H. RENFRO was farming when he was inducted June 29, 1943, he is now somewhere overseas with a signal corps unit.

George Olen RENFRO, USN, enlisted December, 1942 and has been in the Pacific theater of operations for the past 18 months. He was given a furlough in October, which he spent with his parents here. RENFRO attended school at Central High and was engaged as a carpenter at Camp Chaffee before he went into service.

Dick SHELTON went into the army August 9, 1943; took his training at Camp Gruber and landed in England in August 1944 with the Rainbow Division. A brother, Herbert SHELTON was killed in World War I. Dick is now "right in the heart of Germany" with his buddies of the Rainbow. His wife, Lorene SANDERS SHELTON, is making her home in Sallisaw for the duration.

Billy Willis STEVENSON is in the navy, stationed at Farragut, Idaho. A graduate of Sallisaw school STEVENSON attended school at Oklahoma A and M Stillwater. His occupation before entering the navy was in the vocational agricultural field. He went into the service June 12, 1944. His wife Ruth Nelle and their daughter Stephanie Anne, are making their home in Sallisaw for the duration. His parents Mr. and Mrs. J. A. STEVENSON live in Sallisaw.

James C. SAGELY is a seaman first class in the navy. He is serving in the central Pacific at the present. He was inducted Oct. 18, 1943 and was employed in a paper box factory in Los Angeles before that time. A graduate of the Roland school he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. SAGELY. S/Sgt. Raymond N. DICKEY was awarded the Air Medal with seven Oak Leaf Clusters for his part in the Aug. 1, 1943 raid on Polesti oil fields. He served in the North African theatre of operations for more than nine months. DICKEY enlisted in the army air corps April 17, 1942 and was first sent to Sheppard Field, Texas, and on the Harlingen, Texas to gunnery school. His wife Loris, is making her home in Sallisaw. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. N. N. DICKEY of Webber Falls.

Pfc. Clifford E. FITZSIMMONS has been awarded a bronze star for his actions in Italy, his mother, Mrs. Agnes FITZSIMMONS, former county resident, now living in Portland, Ore, said. Pfc. FITZSIMMONS is a member of the Trailblazer division of Camp Adair, Ore. This division has a ship christened for it at Portland. FITZSIMMONS has been overseas since April. He attended school in Badger Lee and Sallisaw. His wife, Wanda lives in Portland where she is employed in a defense plant. Before going in the army he was employed by the Ottinger Bros. Construction company. He has one sister, Bernice Bradshaw, who lives in Detroit.

W/O Roscoe C. BARGER, 28, son of G. W. BARGER, received his education at Sallisaw schools and before entering the service he was a farmer. He entered the army in 1940 and since that time he has served 2 1/2 years in Australia and New Guinea and has been in the Asburn General hospital in McKinney, Tex. Eugene Clayton MCDONALD spent 26 days in assault in the battle of Saipan, where he was sent from Hawaii. The 19-year-old soldier, son of Mrs. Lynn MCDONALD of Marble City, was employed by the Santa Fe railroad until the time he went in the service, June 9, 1943. He was first sent to Fort Sill, from there to Camp Roberts, Calif., to Fort Ord and on to Hawaii. MCDONALD went to school in Denver and in Sallisaw and was graduated in 1942.

Pvt. Rufus E. HONEYCUTT was a farmer before he turned paratrooper on going in the armed services Jan. 11, 1944. He was trained at Ft. Benning, Ga. and at Camp Roberts, Calif. HONEYCUTT attended school at Marble City. His mother is Mrs. Eva WALLACE of Vian. His wife, Delores and their daughter, Doris also live near Vian.

Cpt. James John ALLINDER is stationed at Langley Field, Va. He was doing railroad work when he went in the service November 11, 1943. His first assignment was with the air corps at Sheppard Field, Texas. His wife is Reba June, and with their two sons, James Terry, 2, and Max Don, 3 months old, they live in Marble City. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. John James ALLINDER also live in Marble City.

Cpl. George O. SANDERS, JR. is in the south Pacific. He went in the service October 22, 1942. A 1937 graduate of the Sallisaw schools, SANDERS was employed by the Missouri Pacific railroad before he went in the service. His wife, Faye Lee, lives in Sallisaw, as do his parents Mr. and Mrs. George O. SANDERS. He has two brothers, Sgt. Oocha SANDERS, Macon, Ga., and E. B. SANDERS of the home.

Sgt. Oocha SANDERS has ben in the service since his enlistment October 27, 1942. At that time SANDERS , was a member of a professional vocal quartette, in Macon, Ga. He was first sent to Ft. Cadet Guy H. BIAS JR. E. R. C., 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy H. BIAS, of Blackgum, attended school at Blackgum, Vian and college at Connor's Warner and N. E. S. C. at Tahlequah. Entering the air corps in June, 1944. Cadet BIAS, received his basic training at Texas A and M and College Station, Tex. He is now stationed at the Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Va. where he is taking an electrical engineering course.

T/Sgt. Ben FRIZLEY has been in the service 23 1/2 years. He spent three years of that time in the Phillippine Islands. Since the war begun, he has been training inductees in the various camps over the country. His half-brother, T/Sgt. Watie H. FRIZLEY, is in Kingman, Ariz. and another brother, George FRIZLEY lives in Oklahoma City. Sgt. Ben FRIZLEY enlisted in the army Dec. 1920.

Ermon Elwood SPEARS has been overseas since March. He enlisted in the army in October of 1941 and holds the rating of staff sergeant. A filling station operator in peacetime, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Erbert SPEARS of Richmond, Calif. His wife, Mary Hope and their daughter, Ida Jeanette live near Sallisaw.

Pvt. Ulyess J. CROOK is a member of a family who has a proud service record. Pvt. CROOK has two sister whose husbands are also in the armed forces, both serving overseas. The brothers-in-law are Pvt. Evan Burnett who is somewhere in the south Pacific and Pfc. Deleo ISHAM, who is serving in France. Pvt. CROOK is at Fort McClellan, Ala., where he was sent from Fort Sill. He was called in the service April 9 of this year. Juanita his wife and their children, Patsy Lee and James Richard, live in Vian as do his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jess CROOK Before receiving his call to the army he was engaged in farming.

Orville Donald DOWNS has been in the navy since July, 1942, and has been promoted from apprentice seaman to gunner's mate, third class. An aircraft worker before entering the service, he is a high school graduate and attended Oklahoma A. and M. in Stillwater and Hill's business schools. Mary Florence, his wife, lives in Sallisaw. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Elwin DOWNS, live in Earlsboro.

Jack Clinton ROSSON has been in the southwest Pacific for sometime with the navy. ROSSON is rated as seaman, first class and has been transferred to four different ships since he enlisted December 1, 1941. ROSSON's wife, Barbara WOOD, lives in San Joe, Calif. Charles Robert PIPER is one of Sequoyah county's 18-year-old sailors. PIPER received his ship orders in April of this year. PIPER went in the navy January 3, 1944, and first was stationed at San Diego. Since that time he has been assigned to radar school. He was employed in the shipyards at Long Beach before enlisting in the navy. A graduate of the Sallisaw high school with the class of 1943, PIPER is the son of Mrs. Louise WOLL PIPER Sallisaw and Charles J. PIPER, Long Beach, Calif.

Pfc. John Ernest BOND was a farmer before he went in the service Sept. 24, 1942. He entered the army with the medical corps, at Sioux City, Iowa. His wife, the former Ouida LAND is making her home in Sallisaw. Cassie H. BOND, a brother, is in the infantry at Camp Wolters, Texas. The boys are sons of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. BOND, Muldrow. Cassie BOND entered the service April 27, 1944. He was a farmer before entering the service. The boys have five sisters and one brother.

David Henry KIDD is one of the Americans in Rome. He was in the Sicilian campaign, and went on to Rome with his outfit. KIDD was a welder in a garage before he was inducted in June of 1942. He first went to Tulsa and from there to a station in Georgia and on to Florida, for his training. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Young KIDD of Muldrow. His wife, Aucle and their daughter, Carolyn, live on route 2, Muldrow.

Grady L. DYSART has been overseas since August 21, 1944. He enlisted in the army November 21, 1932 and was first located at Ft. Riley, Kan., with the horse cavalry. He has been designated as warrant officer, and holds that rating. Aside from Ft. Riley, DYSART has been stationed at Ft. Knox, Ky., Baltimore, Md., New York, Camp Campbell, Ky., and before sailing was at Camp Barkley, Texas. Gladys, his wife, and two sons, Bobby and Colin Lee are residents of Sallisaw as are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff DYSART and his sister, Mrs. Clarence BOLDEN.

Dale Leon SHACKELFORD went in the navy Sept. 17, 1943 and has been in naval schools since finishing boot training in San Diego. Now located in Hutchinson, Kan. he is taking a course in aircrewmanship, for a B-24 bomber. He is the son of J. Marshall SHACKELFORD.

Sgt. John Thomas LESTER is serving with the air corps in Italy. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom LESTER, Sallisaw. He enlisted in April, 1941, and was first sent to Kelly Field, Texas. Since that time he has been stationed at Chanute Field, Ill. Shreveport, La., Columbus, Miss., Salt Lake, Utah, Clovis, N.M., Alamagorda, N.M., and Langley Field, Va. Sgt. LESTER was graduated from Sallisaw high school with the class of 1940 and was employed in a grocery store before his enlistment.

Lloyd Calvin WELLS has a 20-month-old baby he has never seen. WELLS has been overseas since April of last year, with the airborne infantry. He took part in the North African, Silician and Italian campaign and is in Italy now. Before going in the service in Sept. 1942 he was employed by Ward's furniture factory in Fort Smith. His wife, Jessie Lee and their baby, Vivian Leigh, live in Roland. His mother is Mrs. Mina WELLS, also of Roland.

Thomas C. RANDOLPH is a staff sergeant. He went in the army March 17, 1943, and taught school before that time. His wife is Velma RANDOLPH who is living in Palacios, Texas. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. RANDOLPH live on route 4, Sallisaw.

Arvel Woodrow HOUSER assumed his duties with the army air corps in August, 1943, after graduating from the army air forces technical training command in October, 1942, at Chanute Field, Ill. He is stationed at Lubbock, Tex. His wife lives in Broken Arrow. HOUSER obtained his education at Muldrow, Central high, Connor's at Warner, and Northeastern, Tahlequah, where he took his B.S. degree. He was teaching before entering the service.

Riley Columbus BREASHEARS has been overseas since Nov. 22, 1942, and was sent to England after leaving the States. At the time of entering the service, hew was with an engineering outfit in the Hawaiian Islands. A corporal in the army, his wife, Eva, lives in Muskogee. He is a waist gunner of a Flying Fortress, having been trained at Sheppard Field, Texas, Lowry Field, Colo., and at the Harlinger, Texas gunnery school. Pvt. Harrell Owen BURNS, 26, attended school at Sallisaw, and before entering the service he was employed by the Weaver Construction Co. He is the son of Mrs. J. A. BROWNFIELD of Sallisaw and Alf BURNS of Hanson, and has one sister, Mrs. Carrie MYERS. Entering the service May 30, 1944 he received his basic training at Camp Fannin, Tex. His wife, Mildred SHEPHERD BURNS and two children, Harrell Milton and Sarah Carole are making their home in Sallisaw.

George FRASIER, who is in India is overseas for the second time; he has been in the army since March 6, 1942. A brother to Sgt. FRASIER, they are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. George W. FRASIER. Smith, SOUTHERN is a 1941 graduate of the Muldrow schools. His wife is Marcella SOUTHERN and his mother is Mrs. Hugh WOODWARD.

Pfc. George Owen ELLIS is at Fort Sam Houston. He went in the service March 24, 1943, and first was trained with the air corps in Jefferson Barracks, Mo., later sent to engineers training at Grinnel, Iowa, attended school of mines in Golden, Colo., where he graduated March 25, 1944, and was transferred to the infantry at Camp Robinson. He was graduated from the Sallisaw schools in 1940. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Noah ELLIS of Hanson.

Eben Leon BROWN is on the battlefront in Germany. A member of a tank destroyer unit, he was promoted to T/3 when he was moved to the front. BROWN finished school in June before his entrance into the service on August 24, 1943. Since that time he has been stationed at North Camp Hood, Texas, Fort Meade, Md. and in March, this year he was sent to England and on to France then to Germany. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Foster G. B.M. 2/C Paul Raymond BROWN, 20 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Foster BROWN of California, received his education in Seminole and Sallisaw schools. Before entering the service, Dec. 15, 1941, he was a student. Since that time he has been at San Diego, Calif. and took part in the battles of Gilberts, Navru, Rabaul, Buka, Bougainville, New Georgia and Guadalcanal islands. Cread Harold ORENDORFF, JR. is a master sergeant serving somewhere in France. He first joined the army in 1935, and as a member of the reserve was called to duty in 1941. Pfc. Robert Louis BELLER was stationed in England prior to the invasion of France, and is somewhere on French soil now. He was inducted on November 23, 1942, and was assigned to a coastal artillery unit. He has been stationed at Camp Ivis, Calif., Camp Picket, Va., and Camp Stewart, Ga. Employed by Ward's Furniture factory in Fort Smith, he is a graduate of the Roland high school. His wife, Norma and son, James Albert live in Los Angeles. His mother, Mrs. Marie BELLER is living in San Diego.

T/Sgt. Joel FINE is located in Marietta, Ga. where he is a supply sergeant for a bomber. He went in the service September 28, 1940. Before he enlisted he was a farmer. A 1940 graduate of the Sallisaw schools, he was first sent to Spokane, Wash. for training with the quartermaster's corps. The son of Mr. and Mrs.. W. H. FINE of route one, Sallisaw, Sgt. FINE has three brothers and five sisters. His wife, Loretta and their son, Joel Douglass, live in Sioux City, Iowa.

Owen Lester WOODWARD plans to finish school and get his degree as a doctor of medicine when the war is over. He went in the service in October of 1941. Claudie H.. SANDERS is somewhere in northern Italy. He was in the north African and Silician battles and went on to the Italian front with the allied armies. He entered the service Jan. 1, 1938 and is now rated as Staff Sgt. He farmed before entering the service. He has been in foreign service since January, 1943. Carl W. SANDERS volunteered for the navy in June, 1943. Before that time he was employed in Bremerton, Wash. in the navy yard. HARRISON is a graduate of Central high school, Muskogee. He attended Connor's college, Warner and Northeastern State college, Tahlequah. He was flight dispatcher at the Spartan School of Aeronautics, Muskogee, before he entered the army May 25, 1942. He was assigned to the anti-aircraft corps, Camp Callan, Calif. then to March Field, (air corps) California. He was given his sergeant's stripes Oct. 16, 1943. He is now serving as pay roll clerk in unit personnel at March Field. His parents are A. ? HARRISON, Sallisaw. His wife and one son reside in Riverside, Calif.

Sgt. Gilbert GREEN, 21 years old, is the son of Mrs. Bert GREEN of Sallisaw. A graduate of Sallisaw high school, he attended Northeastern State college at Tahlequah before enlisting in February, 1943, in the army air corps. He was stationed at Fort Sill, Keesler Field, Miss., Lowery Field, Calif., Buckley Field, Colo., and Boise Field, Idaho before going overseas in December, 1943. In Italy he was awarded the Air Medal and Seven Oak Leaf cluster, and a presidential citation with Two Oak Leaf cluster. He is also entitled to wear a European theater ribbon, credit for shooting down a F.W. 190. He returned to the States in August, 1944 and is now visiting with his family while on leave. He is a brother of Fred, Floyd and Frank GREEN.

Capt. Woodrow Wilson HORN, 26 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. R. HORN, Sallisaw, was employed in a defense plant in Tulsa when he enlisted. He was assigned to the infantry and sent to Fort Warren, Wyo. He formerly served a term with the regular army, 1936-1939, after which he was a reserve for two years and was recalled from that status Feb. 10, 1941. He returned to the States in March, 1944, after spending 18 months in central Africa, Libya, Tunisia, Malta, Sicily and Egypt.

Lt. Carnell Wilson GILSTRAP is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess GILSTRAP of Muldrow, route 3. He graduated at Central High in 1932 and attended Connor's Agricultural college at Warner and Northeastern State college at Tahlequah. He was a school teacher prior to enlisting December 15, 1941. He has been in the south Pacific seven months and is now stationed in the Admiralty Islands. GILSTRAP is the grandson of Mrs. Sallie METCALF of Sallisaw. His wife, Nadine, lives in Muldrow, route 2.

Lt. Iris C. LEACH, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray LEACH, Sallisaw took her nurses training at St. Edward's, Ft. Smith, and enlisted for service June 1, 1943, in the army nurses corps. She was stationed at Camp Polk, La., before being assigned overseas duty in Australia, going from there to New Guinea, where she is now stationed.

Wade HELMS is the 24-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. HELMS of Bunch, Okla. He attended school in Marble and Muldrow. For three years prior to his induction he was employed in an aircraft plant in California. Entering the army in July, 1944, he was assigned to the infantry and stationed at Camp Roberts for training, where he is at the present time. His wife makes her home with her parents in San Diego.

Pfc. Dean E. FLANAGAN was working in a defense plant when he entered service December 28, 1942, and went to Fort Knox for training, going from there to a port of embarkation for the European theater. A veteran of the Sicily campaign he was sent to England, from there crossing the channel with invasion forces. He is now somewhere in France.

Pfc. Thel A. FLANAGAN after attending school in Muldrow, worked in a defense plant until his induction April 2, 1942. His basic training was received at Camp Bowie, Texas. He has been with the medical corps stationed in Egypt for the past two years. Mother of Dean and Thel is Mrs. Bertha FLANAGAN of Muldrow, route 1.

Norvel C. WEST is in France. He went in the service June 3, 1942 at Camp Crowder, Mo., where he was with the signal corps. He was in England before going to France. He is rated as sergeant. His wife, Georgia Opal and daughter, Norvella June live near Muldrow.

Gary B. WEST who is in Italy wears sergeant's stripes. He went in the service May 12, 1942 and was with the Triple-A set-up before that time. He was first stationed at Sheppard Field, Texas.

Elzey N. WEST is a private, first class, now located in Italy. He saw service in north Africa before going to the Italian front. He farmed before going in the service February 20, 1942. his first station was at McCord Field, Wash.

Samuel W. WEST is also in Italy. He has been in the service since Nov. 23, 1942, and before that he farmed. His first station was at Fort Benning, Ga. All four boys are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Sam West of route 4, Muldrow.(Norvell, Gary, Elzey, Samuel)

He went overseas February 3, 1944 and was stationed in England for several months before going to France. Clinton H. ENYART volunteered for service in the marine corps and was given basic training at San Diego. A veteran of Wake Island and Midway, he has been a prisoner of war since Dec. 23, 1941. ENYART interned at Shanghai, China, until Sept., 1943, is now in Osaka Camp, Tokyo, Japan.

Pfc. Clarence L. ENYART was working in Highland, Calif. when inducted August 10, 1943. After his training period at Camp Adair, Ore. , and Fort Ord, Calif., he was assigned to duty somewhere in the Pacific, where he is at this time. His wife, Billie, lives in Sallisaw. James William CLEMMONS, 28 years of age, received his education in Little Rock, Ark., afterward entering the employment of Safeway Stores where he was working when he enlisted September 28, 1940. He was assigned to the quartermaster's corps, where he was advanced to the rank of sergeant. His last training center was Camp Howze, Texas. From there he went to India, where he is at the present time. His wife, the former Cherokee FOX of Gans, is at present with her two children, making her home in Tahlequah. Pfc. Joe Franklin COX graduated from Muldrow high school in the spring of 1943. While in Muldrow he lived with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Ed FARGO. He was employed by Tydol Refinery at Drumright at the time of his induction June 29, 1943. He went overseas in January, 1944 and is serving with the signal corps unit of the air force somewhere in France, as a teletype operator. He was awarded two medals for outstanding achievements, and a star for E.T.O. pin for early participation in the European invasion.

M.Sgt. Leon W. COX was employed by the Tydol Refinery at Drumright after his graduation from Muldrow high school in 1937, until his induction March 8, 1942. His training to be an airplane mechanic and electric welder took him to Kansas City, Miami Beach, Fla., and New Mexico before he was sent overseas. At present he is in North Africa. His wife, Dorothy, and small son live at Kiefer, Okla. They are sons of Dan COX of Drumright, Okla. (Joe & Leon)

James B. LESSLEY, JR., T/5, lost his life in an accident, Jan. 4, 1944 near Seward, Alaska, when an oil stove in his hut exploded killing him almost instantly. He enlisted in the army February 1941 and had been stationed in Alaska with the coast artillery for two and a half years. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James B. LESSLEY of McFarland, Calif., he is survived by three brothers, Wayne with army air corps in England, Sam and Buddy, and one sister, Louise, of McFarland.

Mrs. Margaret OSBURN is an English girl who married Cpl. William OSBURN while he was stationed near her home B. bay, Lunkhill Wills, England. She had served three years with the A.T. S. an organization corresponding to the American WAC. She writes regularly to her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe OSBURN, Route 1, Sallisaw.

Quinton OSBURN is another son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe OSBURN, who gave up farming to go into service. He was born in Sequoyah county and went to school in Maple. His wife, Frances, makes her home in Holdenville.

Cpl. William OSBURN was born in Sequoyah County and went to school at Maple. He was farming when he went into service. He is now somewhere in England, where he married an English girl last April. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe OSBURN.

James C. OSBURN was engaged in defense work when he was inducted June 29, 1943. He was assigned to the air corps and took his basic training at Sheppard Field, Texas. He is now somewhere in England.

William Fred OSBURN was a carpenter prior to induction May 18th. He is now in the naval hospital. Upon release he will go to Oceanside, Calif. to a construction engineering school. He has a wife and two children.

Pfc. Joseph W. OSBURN was inducted Sept. 4, 1940. He was assigned to an infantry division and sent to Ft. Sam Houston for basic training. In Oct. 1943 he went overseas to northern Ireland, where he stayed for a few months before going to England. He was a member of the invasion forces that landed in France June 6th, when he was wounded, and removed from combat duty. He is now at home on furlough.

Eugene OSBURN was inducted Aug. 20, 1941, and was assigned to a coast artillery battalion on the west coast. From San Francisco he was sent overseas, and is now serving somewhere in New Guinea. Thos. Edward PITTS enlisted in the merchant marines, Oct. 1943, and during his short term of service in the Pacific area he has been in New Guinea, Hawaii, New Caledonia, Australia, Midway and Alaska. On May 24th he received a shrapnel wound in his right hand, when the ship he was on was bombed, only 17 of he crew surviving. He has a 15 day furlough in August, which he spent with his family, returning to San Francisco for reassignment. His wife and two children make their home on route 4, Sallisaw. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. PITTS reside in Haywood.

He has been made an instructor in the air corps and is located at Begstram Field, Austin, Texas. The grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. BOYDSTON, his father is W. H. CHRISTOPHER, Tehachani, Calif. His wife, Dorothy, makes her home in Checotah.

Pvt. Charles E. BROTHERTON is stationed somewhere in Italy. he was inducted December 11, 1943, being employed by Lockheed Air Craft Company before that time. He was born in Charleston, Ark., later moving to Muldrow with his family, where he received his education in the public schools.

Warren Ray BROTHERTON, a brother, is serving in the navy. He took boot training at Great Lakes training station in Illinois and from there was sent to Boston before going to the South Pacific, where he has been for the past 18 months on a destroyer. His wife, Molly Ruth lives in Brownfield, Texas. Sons of Mr. and Mrs. Troy BROTHERTON, Los Angeles, they have two sisters, Mary Virginia and Robbie and a brother, Joe Carl, who also live in Los Angeles.

Lt. Charles BETHEL enlisted in the navy December 2, 1941, and attended officers candidate school at Notre Dame and in New York City. The Prairie State was his training ship. At Pennsylvania State college he took additional training as an electrical and diesel engineer. For the past two years he has been on duty in the Atlantic, with a destroyer escort. BETHEL is a graduate of Muldrow high school and Northeastern State college, Tahlequah. He was an instructor before enlistment. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. BETHEL, live in Muldrow.

Cpl. Moochie BALDRIDGE after serving overseas in England for a year took part in the invasion of France, where he has been since D-Day. Moochie, who enlisted for service, was stationed at Ft. Sill with the 45th Infantry division before going overseas. he received his education at Chilocco and in Sallisaw public schools. He is the son of Mrs. Nan BALDRIDGE, Long Beach, Calif. His brother Bill BALDRIDGE lives at Hulbert, Okla.

An eight Air Force Bomber Station, England--Staff Sergeant Robert L. LYNCH, 19, of Muldrow, Okla., waist gunner of a B-17 Flying Fortress of the 95th bombardment group, has been awarded the 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster to the Air Medal for "meritorious achievement" while participating in eighth air force bombing attacks on vital German industrial tacks on vital German industrial targets, and on Nazi airfields, supply dumps and gun emplacements in support of advances by Allied ground forces on the continent. The presentation was mad by Colonel Karl Truesdell, Jr., of Washington, D. C., group commander. Sgt. LYNCH is a member of the Fortress group which led the first American bombing attack on targets in Berlin, and which were cited by the president for its outstanding bombing assault on railroad marshaling yards at Munster, Germany, in October, 1943. As a component of the distinguished third bombardment division the group also shared in a presidential citation given the entire division for its historic England-Africa shuttle bombing of an important Messerschmitt fighter plane plant at Regensburg, Germany, in August of 1943. The sergeant is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert LYNCH of Rt. 4, Muldrow, Okla.

Opie Richard CROSSLIN, S 2/C, entered the army May 20, 1944. At the time of his induction he was working for the Phillips Petroleum Co. in Okmulgee, where he had been working since his graduation from Gans high school. He finished nine weeks of boot training at Camp Wallace, Texas before being sent to Pearl Harbor where he is now located. His wife and son, Danny live in Okmulgee.

After serving 14 month in the south Pacific, he was returned to the State August 7, 1944 and has been station at the air base at Ardmore since. His wife, Louise and son, Alvon Paul live at Ardmore.

Cpl. Wayne H. CAMPBELL is now with the air corps in Burma. He received basic training at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., after going into service February 2, 1943, going on to Bangor, Me., for technical training before going overseas. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark M. CAMPBELL, who live at Tulsa.

Sgt. Neal F. CONNELLEY, JR., is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank CONNELLEY of Vian route 2. He is a graduate of Sallisaw high school and attended Connor's Agricultural college, Warner for two years. CONNELLEY enlisted October 20, 1942, and was assigned to an air force unit at Sheppard Field, Tex. He was sent to Los Angeles for further technical training before going to Rapid City air base, where he received a promotion to corporal in February and was made a sergeant in March, 1943. In May, 1943 he went overseas and was stationed at an eighth air force bomber station in England where B-17 Flying Fortresses take off on almost daily heavy bombing attacks on enemy targets in Germany or Nazi held target of Europe, or in support of advances by ground support. Every detail of each mission has to be prepared in advance by operations section to which CONNELLEY is assigned as clerk. He is a member of the third bombardment division which was cited by the president for its now historic England-Africa shuttle bombing of Messerschmitt fighter plane plant in Germany.

Gafford and Sam Ed SANDERS, sons of Ed SANDERS, were killed within two weeks time, one in Italy and one in the invasion of France. The brothers were graduates of Sallisaw high schools and all around athletes , both here and at Bacone where they both attended college.

Gafford SANDERS, 24, joined the national guard while attending Bacone, in Muskogee and went into active service when the Guard was activated in September 1940. He had been in four major invasions, seeing action in South Africa, Sicily and on the Italian mainland. He was a commando in an infantry division. He was listed missing after May 28, and his death confirmed July 5.

Sam Ed SANDERS, 27 years old was also a member of the national guard when it was activated, but later given an honorable discharge. He joined the coast artillery and was in this branch of the service when he was killed in the invasion of France on June 9. Besides their father and their two sisters, Alice SANDERS a WAC, stationed at Scott Field, Ill., and Dolly SANDERS, cadet nurse, stationed in Washington, D. C., the boys are survived by a sister, May Sue, of Dwight Mission, a brother, Buck of Dwight Mission and two aunts, Mrs. Gussie CHOATE and Sadie SANDERS also of Dwight Mission.

Alice SANDERS, 22 years old, is in the air corps of the women's Army Corps, now stationed at Scott Field, Ill. She has been in the WAC for more than 10 months and says she has received an education worth a million dollars.

Dolly SANDERS, 19 years old, is a cadet nurse, stationed at Washington, D. C. She is now training at Sibley hospital. She has had two years of training and at the completion of her course will be allowed her choice of army or navy nurses corps, or civilian defense. If she enters the army or navy, she will be given a commission next September. Both girls have attended school in Sallisaw.

Charles E. MATTOX, was at home on furlough recently after completing boot training at Camp Farragut, Idaho. He has been transferred to the Great Lakes training station in Illinois for a course in engineering school. A graduate of the Sallisaw high school, class of 1941, he entered the service June 16, 1944.

Jewel L. MATTOX was inducted June 24, 1943. While taking basic training at Camp Roberts, Calif., he volunteered for paratrooper and finished training at Ft. Benning, Ga., from which place he was sent overseas, and is now somewhere in New Guinea. MATTOX graduated from Sallisaw high school in 1942, and was working in California before going into the service. They are sons of Mrs. Flora MATTOX, Sallisaw.

John Ed MAYES, 20 year-old son of Mrs. Mary MAYES, Wichita, Kans., and Vernon MAYES, Muskogee, enlisted Oct. 30, 1942. He attended hospital corps school at San Diego and was drafted for ship duty April 21, 1943, in the navy's 6th amphibious force. He received a rating as Ph. M. 3/C in August 1943, and served in two campaigns in the Aleutian Islands. In September, 1943 he sailed for the south Pacific, and is a veteran of four amphibious invasions in that theater. He is now somewhere in the south Pacific.

A/C Cecil C. HARRISON was president of the first student council in the Sallisaw high school, where he graduated with the class of 1936. He was a civil service aircraft welder in Sacramento, Calif. when he entered the air corps June 29, 1943. He took his basic training at Sheppard Field, Tex. and went to Blackhills Teachers' College, Spearfish, S. D., for advanced training. He was taking pre-flight training at Santa Ana army air base, when he was give a furlough, which he spent in Sallisaw. On his return to the air base he was killed in a motor cycle accident near Kingman, Ariz., in an attempt to help the sheriff, who had requested him to join in a hunt for car thieves.
