Reading Material and Publications for Genealogical Research

If there is a book or publication that you would like to have added to this page, please contact me.

This publication contains a documentary record of the day-to-day lives of the Cherokee Nation and her people. The trials and tribulations are chronicled throughout the collection--seen through the eyes of tribal leaders, missionaries, military men, traders, intruders, cattlemen, slaves and freedmen.

The Archives and Manuscripts Division has the largest collection of Cherokee records outside the National Archives in Washington, D. C. The bulk of the collection covers the time span from 1858-1906. However, supplemental materials, such as missionary records, manuscripts containing correspondence, journals and other records, provide information fromthe 1820s to the present.

The records described in this guide were microfilmed on 35mm archival quality film.
