Born April 2, 1837, in Smithville, Mississippi

Died September 2, 1919, at the home of his father, James M. Elliott, at 308 N. Taylor in Wynnewood, OK.  This house has only recently been demolished

Buried at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley and does not currently have a military marker

In 1864 John married Martha R. Cowley in Monroe County, Mississippi.  Martha died in 1879

He is believed to have been a machinist while he lived in Wynnewood
