About Us
The purpose of the Wellington Genealogy Group is to aid individuals with an interest in genealogy, to publish genealogy material of local interest, and to expand the resources of the genealogy department of Herrick Memorial Library.
The Wellington Genealogy Group is currently working on a project that involves indexing records from local churches and will result in adding to the group's publications.
The resources collected by the Wellington Genealogy Group are held in the reference section of the Herrick Memorial Library.
The Wellington Genealogy Group is an affiliate of the Lorain County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society.
Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month. The meetings are generally held in the south meeting room on the 2nd floor of the Wellington Town Hall. The second floor can be reached via the elevator. Annual dues are $10.00 per household. Guests are welcome.
Wellington is located in the southern part of Lorain County and due to its location, is only a ten minute drive to Ashland, Huron, or Medina counties.
Wellington is best known as the home of Archibald Willard, the painter who painted the "Spririt of '76." Willard's grave can be found at the local Greenwood Cemetery.
