Redcaps Lose Opening Night
Game to Ethiopian Clowns, 11-3
Presenting an entirely different lineup than last season, and presenting a much stronger team than in the past three years, the Ethiopian Clowns, a barnstorming colored nine of Miami, Fla. put a crimp in the Wakeman Redcaps’ opening of their night baseball season Sunday evening at Wakeman, defeating the Redcaps 11 to 3 before a paid attendance of over 2,000 fans.
Although losing the opener, the Redcaps played heads-up ball in the field but failed to do anything worthwhile against the superb pitching of the Clown’s hurler.
Bob
Peters of Bellevue, who performed in his first game for the Redcaps, collected
three hits in as many trips to the plate.
"Hen" Edwards, Norwalk diamond star who is playing the outfield for Huron county’s outstanding ball club turned in a fine defensive game, getting three chances and making them all good for outs. At the bat Norwalkian connected for a long triple out of three times up.
Harold Spratt, another local diamond performer who is playing with the Redcaps, played a stellar game at first, handling all his chances in A-1 shape, and getting a clean single out of three trips to the plate.
A severe rainstorm in Norwalk late Sunday afternoon was largely responsible for the small attendance from Norwalk, the majority of Redcaps followers here believing that the game would be called off due to rain. However, little or no rain fell at Wakeman and the more than 2,000 fans who did turn out for the contest were treated to some of the best baseball that will undoubtedly be seen in northern Ohio this season.
