Redcaps to Start

Practice Sunday

Wakeman - The Wakeman Redcaps, independent baseball team, will hold their first regular practice Sunday at 2 p.m., it was announced today by Manager Don Wasem.

Any players interested in playing night baseball are asked to report or to contact Wasem at Birmingham. 5-15-47

WAKEMAN - The Wakeman Redcaps launched their 1947 night baseball season last night in trimming the Greenwich Merchants 21 to 0, with Al Blissett hurling a one-hitter for the Redcaps.

The Redcaps tallied seven runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings, the highlight of their 24-hit attack, Greenwich used three pitchers but simply couldn’t stem the barrage of Wakeman slugging.

Sunday night, Wakeman plays the Akron Moore’s Wrestlers in their second night game. 6-5-47

Tom Mockler Stars in

Victory Over Akron

WAKEMAN - Two former Wakeman High School battery mates, Tom Mockler and Jack Yun starred last night when the Wakeman Redcaps trimmed Akron, 10- 6, under the lights.

Mockler took the mound in the sixth inning with the score knotted at 4-all and whiffed six batters to keep the Rubber City boys in check for the remainder of the contest.

The Atlanta Blackcrackers invade Wakeman tonight for a game scheduled at 8:30 p.m. 6-12-47

Atlanta Triumphs, 8 to 1,

Under Lights

Wakeman – The Redcaps of Wakeman suffered their second loss in four starts this season when the Atlanta Blackcrackers scored an 8-1 victory here last night under the lights.

Shepher, winning hurler, fanned 10 Redcaps, and kept eight hits well scattered. The winners nicked Bob Blissett and Bob Roe for seven hits. The Redcaps were charged with three errors.

The Warren Ramblers invade Wakeman for a game at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Mon. - June 16, 1947

Redcaps Romp

WAKEMAN – Wakeman Redcaps turned in an 11 to 4 triumph over the Warren Ramblers last night under the lights with Mockler, winning pitcher, striking out 14. Sladovich, losing pitcher, had 13 strikeouts and both gave up nine hits. The Redcaps scored seven runs in a big second inning. 6-16-47

Redcaps Defeat

Oak Harbor, 5-2

WAKEMAN - The Wakeman Red caps defeated Oak Harbor Merchants, 5-2, in a game under the lights here last night, using five Oak Harbor errors to full advantage.

Bob Roe, winning pitcher, struck out 14 and gave up five hits while Oak Harbor used two pitchers in an effort to prevent defeat. Sunday the Redcaps will play the Rittman Boxboards at 8:30 p.m. 6-19-47.

Win Over Caps

WAKEMAN - In a comedy of errors, the Rittman Boxboards won a 6 to 4 victory over the Wakeman Redcaps, the winners charged with eight errors and six hits and the Redcaps with six errors and eight hits.

Wheary, a left-hander, hurled for Rittman and had 11 strikeouts while Cooper and Mockler were the losing workers. Freddie Gerber had a triple. Wednesday the Redcaps will play the Lorain Chicks. 6-23-47

Redcaps Win

Beat Creston, 8-3, on

Late Errors

WAKEMAN - Scoring five runs in the seventh and eight innings, with the aid of several errors, the Wakeman Redcaps posted an 8 to 3 victory over Creston Pirates in a night game at Wakeman yesterday.

Maiden was the losing pitcher, yielding 10 hits, while Mockler, Redcap hurler, gave Creston but eight bingles. Both had 10 strikeouts.

Sunday the Redcaps will oppose the Galion Reds at 8. 30 p.m. next Wednesday the Caps take on the unbeaten Ravenna A. C. and Sunday, July 13, the Caps have two games billed, meeting the Jacksonville, Fla., Eagles at 2. p.m. and the Akron Smith Sheriffs in the night game. 7-3-47

(Sunday, Galion Reds game rained out.)

Redcaps Split

WAKEMAN - Redcap baseballers split a pair of games played yesterday, inking a 1-3 decision from the Akron Smith Sheriffs last night after dropping a 10 to 1 game to the Jacksonville Eagles in the afternoon.
