SUMMIT COUNTY RESEARCH
TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE RESEARCH IN SUMMIT COUNTY OHIO
Are you considering visiting Summit County to do your own genealogical
research? Perhaps you know exactly when your ancestor died and would like
to send for this record. Knowing what records are available, and where they
are kept, is the key factor in getting the information you want with the
least amount of trouble.
The Summit County Chapter, OGS has prepared the following information in
an attempt to help you. This is not meant to be a complete list. But rather
a list of records most often asked about. All offices, except a few, are
open to public search during regular business hours and are within walking
distance of each other in downtown Akron. None of these offices are equipped
to do research. However, many will send copies through the mail if you can
provide the exact information required to locate the record, and the proper
copy fee. Please include a long, self-addressed stamped envelope (S.A.S.E.)
with your request.
The Summit County Chapter, OGS is not responsible for any changes in the
information listed on these pages. Changes can be made, without notice, by the offices
in charge. It is always best to call or write for current policies &
copy fees. They do not maintain these pages, if you have a problem PLEASE
contact the Summit County Coordinator, not the OGS.
I have also tried to add links to sites that you can get more information if available, and interesting
enough for me to include. I hope this information helps you with your search in Summit County.
Thanks.
