J. M. BUCHER, 82, retired farmer, died in his home here Thursday morning. He was a retired farmer, and had lived in the New Carlisle community all his life. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Funeral services will be conducted in the residence at 2 p.m. Sunday, with burial in the New Carlisle Cemetery.

Emerson JENKINS, 62, of New Carlisle, Route 2, died Sunday at ??? a.m. in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lillian BARRY of 419 W. Columbia st. Death followed an illness of six months. A farmer, Mr. Jenkins was a lifelong resident of Clark County. Mrs. BARRY is the only immediate survivor. The body was removed to the Dopin funeral home in New Carlisle for services Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial will be made in Lawrenceville Cemetery.

Page 2 - Main. Mrs. Ethel HENDRICKS GRIDLEY, 55, died at 2:20 p.m. Saturday at the City Hospital, following a month's illness. She lived near Catawba, O., where she was born. At one time she made her home in Florida and Oklahoma, but had lived near Catawba for the last 10 years. She was a member of the Catawba Methodist Episcopal Church. Mrs. GRIDLEY is survived by her husband, Walter H. GRIDLEY; her father, L. F. HENDRICKS of Mechanicsburg; four daughters, Mrs. J. J. OCONNOR and Mrs. L. L. FITZGIVEN, both of Springfield; Mrs. Ralph NEER of Catawba, and Miss Martha GRIDLEY, at home; three sons, Chester, of Orlando, Fla., Roger , of Columbus, and Robert, at home; six grandchildren and a brother, Lee of Orlando, Fla. The body will be taken to the David and Byers Funeral Home at Mechanicsburg. Dr. and Mrs. STOVER in Philadelphia, Pa. Dr. STOVER is pastor of the Messiah Lutheran Church. For the past 15 years Victor STANFORD had been a resident of Buckingham Valley. He was well known in Doylestown, Pa., where he was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church and at one time played with the Doylestown Band. He had been in ill health since last August. He was a native of Welland, Canada, but the greater part of his life was spent in the United States. (Rest of obit cut off).

Mr. HASSLER left Springfield two years ago to make his home with his son. He came to Springfield from Crab Orchard, Tenn., in 1901, and had lived in Springfield until two years ago. He was a retired employee of the Big Four Railroad and a member of Veterans of Railway Employees. In addition to the son at whose home he died, he leaves another son, Riley H. HASSLER, of Springfield, and one daughter, Mrs. Maude MOORE, of Springfield, Route 1. The body was taken to the Woods Funeral Home and removed to residence of son, Riley, 301 N. Survivors are six sons, Michael of Columbus, O., and Daniel, John J., Thomas P., Maurice and James, all of Springfield, three daughters, Mrs. John LEVALLEY of Columbus, and Mrs. Frank KARL and Miss Mary O'CONNOR, both of Springfield, 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. in St. Raphael Church. Burial will be made in Calvary Cemetery. The body was removed to the O'Brien funeral home and will be returned to the residence Monday afternoon.

His parents, Martin and Deliah WEBB HATFIELD, settled here in 1804. He had lived in Clark County and Springfield his entire life. Surviving are his widow, Cecilia; a daughter, Mrs. Arthur MASSMAN of Springfield; a son, Merle HATFIELD of Pittsburgh; a brother F. M. HATFIELD of Springfield, and a grandson, Robert MASSMAN of Springfield.

She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Home City Temple, No. 113, Pythian Sisters, and the Past Chiefs' Association. Mr. and Mrs. Hawver celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Oct. 26, 1932. Survivors are her husband, Jacob E. Hawver; a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Stanaway of this city; a son, Edgar A. Hawver of Sidney and two grandsons, John J. and William A. Stanaway. The body was taken to the Richards Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday with burial in Ferncliff Cemetery.

A few hours later, at an intersection three miles north of Urbana, a Springfield woman was injured fatally on her 51st birthday anniversary, and six others were hurt to varying degrees.... The Dead: MRS. Iza SULTZBAUGH, 51, of 1560 S. Center Blvd., Springfield, who died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday in the Champaign County Hospital of injuries in accident near Urbana.......Mr. & Mrs. Melvin COMPTON of 913 Clifton Ave., Springfield; Marjorie SULTZBAUGH, 12, daughter of the dead woman; Mrs. Emerson SNAPP, 30, of Springfield, Route 6, another daughter of the victim, and Mrs. Snapp's son, Marion, 6; and Hildreth MYERS, 21, of the Park Seed Farm, north of Urbana-all injured in the SULTZBAUGH accident.... Mrs. SULTZBAUGH's death resulted from a skull fracture, a compound fracture of the right leg, fractured ribs, and a right wrist fracture......She, and five of the others injured in the crash were occupants of a car which collided at the intersection of U.S. Route 68, and State Route 290, two and a half miles north of Urbana, with a car driven by Hildreth MYERS. MYERS was alone in his automobile at the time. Mr. & Mrs. COMPTON, son-in-law and daughter, respectively, of Mrs. SULTZBAUGH, both suffered cuts and bruises, Marjorie, the 12 year old daughter, received face lacerations, a left leg fracture and general shock, an Mrs. SNAPP and her son received cuts and bruises. The condition of Marjorie, most severely injured of the six, was reported as "fair" Thursday morning. MYERS originally was believed to have been critically hurt, but his injuries Thursday was found to be not serious. The party in the car driven by Mrs. SULTZBAUGH were en route to their homes after a visit at the residence of Mrs. SULTZBAUGH's daughter, Mrs. Benjamin BRAMMER, four miles northeast of Urbana. The accident happened shortly before midnight. All the injured were in the Champaign County Hospital Thursday...... Mrs. SULTZBAUGH was born March 14 1889, in Champaign County. She was a member of the Second Lutheran Church of Springfield, Norris Chapter of Eastern Star, and Manito White Shrine of Jerusalem No. 27. Her husband, Walter SULTZBAUGH, preceded her in death March 8, 1931. Mrs. SULTZBAUGH is survived by two sons Thomas of Springfield, and Robert of Eldorado, O; four daughters, Mrs. SNAPP of Springfield, Route 6, Mrs. BRAMMER of near Springfield, and Marjorie of Springfield; her father, Thomas HECK of Urbana; a sister, Mrs. Harry RAMBY of St. Paris; a half sister, Miss Grace Fern HECK of Urbana, and four grandchildren. The body was removed to the Jackson Funeral Home. The deaths brought to six the toll of highway accidents in the Springfield this week...

Enon man found dead in his bed. Frank CRIMMINS, 53, Lived Alone in Residence. Frank CRIMMINS, about 53 years old, was found dead in his home at Enon, O., at 4:45 p.m. Saturday. He had been living alone since the death of his brother, David, in 1937. Neighbors reported to CLARK County Sheriff George W. BENHAM that they had not seen the man during the last week, and asked that his home be investigated. Deputies forced entrance to the house, located at the intersection of Route 4 and Kansas av., and found the man dead in bed. Deputies said the body was sitting on the bed attired in night clothes. Coroner Austin RICHARDS was summoned and attributed death to natural causes. The coroner said the man had been dead about four or five days. The body was removed to the O'Brien funeral home.

He had been in failing health for the past year. Mr. KIRKPATRICK had resided at the Ohio Masonic Home since last August. He was born in LaSalle County, Ill., on May 15, 1860, but had been a resident of Springfield for 60 years. Prior to his retirement in 1930, he had been employed by The Oliver Farm Equipment Co. for 18 years. Mr. KIRKPATRICK had been a member of Clark Lodge No. 101, F and A.M., for 46 years. He was also a member of Springfield Chapter No. 48, Royal Arch Masons, of Springfield Lodge No. 33, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and of the First Lutheran Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles F. BUCHER of Springfield and a niece and nephew in Texas. His wife, Mrs. Gladys AULT KIRKPATRICK, died on September 23, 1937.

Besides her daughter in whose home she died, Mrs. Callison leaves another daughter, Mrs. Ethel BEELER of Springfield Route 4; a son, Arges, of Hamilton, O.; a sister, Mrs. Maggie GANO of Los Angeles, CA.; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. The body was removed to the Littleton funeral home for services at 2 p.m. Tuesday in charge of Rev. J. A. Jenkinson, pastor of the Emery Chapel Methodist Church. Burial will be made in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Royal H. Dearth, 74, died at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marie Pierce, 147 W. Mulberry st., following a six -month illness. He was born in Jackson County, O., and had been a resident of Springfield for the last 26 years. Prior to his retirement a number of years ago, he was employed by the former Victor Rubber Co., for 17 years. He attended the Church of God on Maiden Lane. Mr. Dearth leaves a son, Donald Dearth, of Chillicothe, O., the daughter at whose home he died, and another daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Copes, also of Springfield; four grandchildren, Mrs. Jeanette Williams, Patricia Ann Pierce, Asa Pierce, Jr., and Frank Crable, all of Springfield, and two great grandchildren. The body was taken to the Jackson Funeral Home.

ILLNESS PROVES FATAL TO FRANCIS M. HUGHEL Francis M. HUGHEL, 87, died at 7:30 am Saturday at his home, 730 Court st., following a three month illness. He was born in North Hampton, O., and had been a lifelong resident of Clark County. His wife, Mrs. Alice HUGHEL, died in 1912. He leaves four sons, Clyde of New Carlisle; Merton of Cincinnati, and William and Albert, of Springfield; nine grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. The body was taken to Richards Funeral home.

Page 6. Theodore DEAR, 86, of 758 Selma rd., died Sunday at 12:30 a.m. in a nursing home at 123 E. Clark st. Death followed an illness of one month. A native of Logan County, O., Mr. DEAR had lived in Springfield and Clark County more than 50 years. He was a retired farmer. Survivors are two sons, Perry of Urbana, and Clinton, of Dayton, a sister, Mrs. Ellen BERRY of Toledo, 29 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Bowlusville Church. Burial will be made in DEAR Cemetery. The body was removed to the Littleton funeral home.

Pg. 6 William STAFFORD, 84, died Sunday at 2 a.m. in the Clark County Home. Death followed a brief illness. A pioneer resident of Clark County, Mr. STAFFORD was a retired farmer and former resident of New Carlisle. He was admitted to the home in 1930. There are no known immediate survivors. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Trostel funeral home, New Carlisle. Burial will be made in New Carlisle Cemetery.

Miss Elizabeth LEWIS, 81, for many years a teacher in the Central Ward School, Urbana, died Sunday night in the hospital at Janesville, Wisconsin. Miss LEWIS had been an invalid for a number of years and a few months ago was taken to Janesville to make her home with her nephew, Dr. Lawrence LEWIS and wife. Telegrams received Monday by Urbana friends stated only that the body would be sent Monday to Urbana and that burial services will be held from Humphreys and Son. Co., funeral home, probably Tuesday. Louis Spang, 71, died in the County Home Sunday at 12:45 p.m. He is survived b one son, Louis of Dayton; one sister, Mrs. Mary Hornberger of Springfield, and three grandchildren. The body was removed to the Degenhart funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the St. Bernard Church, and burial will be made in the St. Bernard Cemetery.

Mrs. Lulu Davis, 52, of 129 E. Monroe st., died Monday in the Dayton State hospital, where she had been a patient for one month. She was born in Springvale, Ga., and had lived in Springfield about 25 years. She was a member of the North Street A.M.E. Church. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Cochran, Mrs. Everzene Ragland and Mrs. Dorothy Turner, all of Springfield and 11 grandchildren. The body was taken to the Patterson Funeral Home.

Erwin P. WILLS , 84, former Springfield resident, died in his home, 905 S. North st., Washington C. H., at 2:45 p.m. Sunday. He had lived most of his life in Springfield, moving to Washington C. H. a year ago. He was a retired mill worker, and for 22 years had been employed by Robbins and Myers, Inc., of Springfield. Besides his widow, a daughter, Mrs. Florence Cleo WORRELLl of near Mt. Sterling, 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild survive. Funeral services will be conducted in the residence at 2 p.m. Wednesday with burial in Washington Cemetery.

Edith Christine CONWAY, 16, of 902 S. Yellow springs st., died in the CLARK county Sanatorium at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. She had been a patient there since April 15. The body was removed to the Ewing funeral home and will be returned to the residence about 6 p.m. Monday for services three at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The body will be shipped to Carlisle, Ky., at 5 a.m. Wednesday for further services there Wednesday afternoon. Burial will be made in Carlisle, Hr. She was the adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry SYDES of the Yellow Springs st. address. Besides her adopted parents, her father Sletney CONWAY, three sisters and two brothers survive. She was a student in the first grade of high school, and a member of the Fair st. Christian Church.

Funeral services for Robert GROVE, 41 of Fifth st., Tipp City, O., who died at 8:20 p.m. in the Veterans Hospital in Dayton, will be held at the resident in Tipp city at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with burial in Tipp City. He was a former Springfielder. His death was due to a heart ailment. The body was taken to the Tipp City residence. Mr. GROVE was employed in the local plant of the International Harvester Co., before his illness. His father, Frank GROVE of Union, O.; his mother Mrs. Warren CHAMPLIN of Troy; a sister, Mrs. Minnie WILSON of Troy, and three brothers, Roy, of Springfield, Route 4; Albert of Dayton and William of Troy survive.
