Bronxville is a village within the town of Eastchester. Jonas Bronck, a native of Denmark, has given his name to the county which lies directly south of Westchester, a river which runs through the southern part of the county and to the town of Bronxville which was originally called Underhill's Crossing. Supposedly, James P. Swain¹ is credited with suggesting the name be changed to Bronxville from Underhill's Crossing.

At this time, Bronxville does not have a village historical society. However, some people are considering establishing one -- or so I've heard. However, since this village is part of the town of Eastchester, you may wish to contact the Eastchester Historical Society.
Don't overlook the many resources held at the Westchester County Historical Society.

The Westchester County Historical Society also has extensive manuscripts giving inventories of many old cemeteries located throughout the County.

The Sanborn Map Company has issued Insurance maps of the town of Pelham which comprises North Pelham, Pelham, and Pelham Manor and the town of Eastchester which includes the villages of Bronxville and Tuckahoe, New York. [1932], copies of which are available in the Map Division of the New York Public Library. Insurance maps were detailed to the point of showing each building on each street so that insurance companies knew what to pay the insurer in the event of fire or destruction.
Many town historical societies hold maps of their vicinities, including copies of the Sanborn insurance maps. Be sure to inquire at such institutions as well as at local libraries.

The only NY State censuses which survived are for the years 1905, 1915, and 1925. Check at your local LDS Family History Center for these films.

Since Bronxville was not in existence as a village in 1790, there is no 1790 census for it. Check Eastchester's census if you think your ancestors resided there in 1790.
