Notes
1. Reuben Cain is buried in Keyserkill Cemetery and his name is on the Soldier's Stone there
as well. Born Dec. 22, 1843 DIED Dec. 21, 1913. Served in 134th NY Vols. Co. D wounded 4
times during the war. He was very active in GAR Post #485 Middleburgh, NY Discharged
June 10, 1865. He was one of my cw ancestors (see note 1a below). Majority of his family
is buried in Potter Hollow Cemetery (see note 1a below). I am a member of the Sons of
Union Veterans of the Civil War. www.suvcw.org I am from Middleburgh originally now
reside San Francisco, CA.

1a. I was delighted to find the Keyserkill Cemetery listing in the Schoharie County website.
Buried there are 2 of my grandparents (Isban and Fannie Hess), 2 of my great grandparents
(Reuben and Harriet Cain) and 2 of my great-grandparents (Seth and Eunice Gordon). I grew
up in Broome Center, so many of the names in KK are familiar to me. It was a favorite place
to visit when we were kids. It was a pleasure to see the many connections to my family tree,
i.e. Haskins, Hallecks, Spencers, Chichesters, etc. However, I must write you about Note l
submitted by Corky Reed (see note 1 above). ... Reuben Cain was indeed in the Civil War, but
had no children named Reed, or married to a Reed, thus no direct relationship. One of
Reuben Cain's children was my grandmother F. Sarah Cain Gordon, another was Ina Cain Hagadorn
(also supposedly in KK but didn't find her), and 2 sons William and Charles Cain (both of whom
were childless). Corky also claims that "the majority of family were buried in the Potter
Hollow Cemetery". Not true, for most of the Cains are buried in Federal City Cemetery, now
mysteriously known as Ellis Cemetery. So that's my gripe with Corky: his Reed forebears were
cousins to Reuben Cain and were also in the Civil War, but there is not a direct line to the Cains.
