Sgt. Leon Wochna, Prisoner Of Germans, Killed, Says Report
Previously reported as missing in action, First Sgt. Leon J.
WOCHNA, 27, is now reported as killed in action on January 26, while a prisoner of war
of the German government, according to a telegram from the War Department received by
his wife, Mrs. Irene F. WOCHNA, 315 West Avenue, which stated the report had been
received through the International Red Cross. He was the son of Mr. and
Mrs. John WOCHNA 315 West Avenue.
Overseas two months, Sergeant WOCHNA was reported as missing in action in Belgium since December 23rd, in a telegram received in January. With the Artillery, he entered service Jan. 28, 1942, receiving his training at Fort Eustis, Va., and Camp Atterbury, Ind. After arriving in England, he was sent to Belgium where he saw action.
Born in Medina Nov. 3, 1917, Sergeant WOCHNA was graduated from St. Mary’s School, and attended the Medina High School. A member of St. Mary’s Boy Scouts for eleven years, he was Scoutmaster of the Troop for several years, taking a keen interest in the welfare and activities of the Troop.
Surviving besides his wife and parents, are one daughter, Judy Ann, one year old; one brother, William WOCHNA, at home; and his grandmother, Mrs. Leon WOCHNA of Medina.

Mr. and Mrs. John WOCHNA, N. Main St. (Medina), reported that the remains of their son, 1st. Sgt. Leon J. WOCHNA, killed in Europe during World War II, were located in Luxembourg and have been returned to this county for burial. The survivors of the late soldier attended interment services at Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, NY yesterday.
Sgt. Wochna entered the armed service in Jan. 1942, receiving training at Ft. Eustis, Va., and Camp Atterbury, Ind. After arriving in England, he saw sent to Belgium where he saw action. He was killed in Europe while a prisoner of the Germans.
He left his parents; his wife Irene; a daughter, Judy Ann, who was a year old at the time of his death; a brother, William WOCHNA

Mrs. Proxeda WOCHNA, 93, of 126 Erin Road, died Friday at Medina Memorial Hospital after a two day illness. Prayer services were held this morning at the Barnes-Tuttle Funeral Home followed by a funeral mass at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Joseph J. Rydz officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Mrs. WOCHNA is survived by two sons, John WOCHNA of Medina and William WOCHNA of Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Sidney LITCHFIELD of Medina with whom she made her home. Also, nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren; one sister Mrs. Walter JUDSON of Newark, N.J.; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. George WOJTOWICZ, 61, died suddenly Monday afternoon in Medina Memorial Hospital. She was born in Poland and came here when a young girl. Mrs. WOJTOWICZ resided at 105 Laurel Street, where she and Mr. WOJTOWICZ conducted a grocery business for many years.
She is survived by her husband, George; two daughters, Irene, Niagara Falls, and Rita, Kenmore; one son, Henry BANAS, Albion; one grandson; one sister, Mrs. Sophie JABLONSKI, Medina; one brother, Watson BANAZUSKI, Medina, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. WOJTOWICZ was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Women of the Moose.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9:30 from the Cleary Funeral Home, and at 10 o’clock in Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. Anthony CIECHANSKI will officiate and burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Word has been received that Mr. James WOLCOTT, formerly of Medina, but for the past two years a resident of California, died Thursday. Mr. WOLCOTT had sent word to his brother-in-law, Mr. Ziba ROBERTS, that he was very sick, and had written him to come to California for him. Mr. ROBERTS left Thursday, the day of Mr. WOLCOTT's death. The remains will be brought here for burial.

Lyndonville - Mrs. Alice H. WOLFE, 48, died in Medina Memorial Hospital Sunday evening where she had been a patient since Saturday. Her death was unexpected. She was born in Middleport Feb. 28, 1906, the daughter of William and Carrie STEPHENS BATES and was a member of the Lyndonville Presbyterian Church. She is survived by one son, Robert WOLFE and her father, William BATES, both of Lyndonville; two sisters, Mrs. George JOHNSON, Brockport, and Mrs. Marcel GAGNE, Rochester, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the Smythe Funeral Home Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Billingsley, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, in charge. Burial will be in West Ridgeway Cemetery.

County Line - On Tuesday, the 7th inst., occurred two funerals and one death in this village. The funeral services over the remains of Mrs. Clara Belle WOLF were observed in the County Line church on that day; sermon by the Rev. Gross, of West Somerset, and interment in the Somerset cemetery. Deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson HARRINGTON. She had been married just one year, and was twenty-one years of age.

Mrs. Edith PRATT WOLFE, wife of Floyd WOLFE, Garland Street, died Sunday night, December 3, 1933, in Medina Memorial hospital, where she underwent an operation ten days ago, and was critically ill since. Mrs. WOLFE was born July 14, 1905 in the town of Yates. She was a memher of Yates Baptist church. Besides her husband she leaves five small children, Floyd, Dean, Ruth, Joan, and Howard, a baby five weeks old; her mother, Mrs. E. E. PRINGLE; three sisters, Mrs. Avah JOSLIN, Kenosha, Wis., Mrs. Dora HOUSEMAN, Medina, and Mrs. Jessie CARPENTER, Lyndonville; and three brothers, Edgar PRATT of Brockport, Roy PRATT of Middleport and Louis PRATT of Lyndonville. The funeral was held in the home Wednesday afternoon, Rev. F. Mittlefehldt, officiating. Burial was in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Lyndonville - Funeral services for John WOLFE, 71, who died in an Albion hospital Monday evening after a short illness, will be held from McNall's Funeral Home, this afternoon at 2 o'clock. The deceased was born in Germany, September 17, 1870.
He is survived by three sons, George and Francis of Lyndonville, amd Harry pf Lenosha, Wis.; two daughters, Mrs. Hugh HAPP and Mrs. Reuben PATTERSON both of Batavia; and by twelve grandchildren. Rev. E.P. Gill will officiate and interment will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

The death of Mrs. Jennie B. WOLFFE, 86, widow of the late William J. WOLFFE, for many years a resident of Transit Rd., occurred in the Medina Memorial Hospital late Monday afternoon.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Peter CRAIG, Medina; Mrs. John SHERET, Ogdensburg and Mrs. Ida REMILLARD, Rochester; two sons, Harry of Medina and Wilbut of Albion RFD, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The body is at the Merrill Funeral Home, 134 East State Street, Albion where funeral services will be held Thursday, September 1, at 2 p. m. with burial in Transit Cemetery.

Albion, Oct. 1. - The death of Albert W. WOOD, one of the leading fruit growers in Western New York, and owner of the Wood state experiment orchards in Carlton, N. Y. occurred at his farm home, eight miles northeast of this village, at 5:30 o’clock this morning.
Mr Wood was in this village last night, and awoke at 4 o'clock this rnorning. After starting to dress he folded his pillow to elevate his head and lay down again. His wife, hearing a gurgling sound, believed he was in a nightmare, but when she was unable to arouse him by shaking him, she summoned their son-in-law, Carl BIRD, who occupied an upstairs room, but already life was extinct. Dr. Edward Whittier, of this village was summoned and notified Coroner Arthur I. Eccleston, of Waterport, who pronounced death due to heart failure.
Mr Wood owned over two hundred acres of the finest fruit-growing land in the state. For several years the state has had portions of his farm for experimental orchard work, and students from the Cornell Agricultural College, Geneva Experiment station and other places have made frequent trips to Mr. Wood’s orchards.

A tragic event which greatly shocked this community was the accidental shooting of Miss Grace WOOD, aged fifteen, by her sister Ruth, aged eighteen, Saturday last at the family home on Orient street. The facts are stated as follows: The older sister and Frank Dickinson were standing on the veranda of the home and the young woman was shooting at a mark with a rifle. She stood at one end of the veranda when her sister came out of the door to call them to dinner. The girl walked directly in front of the gun which was discharged at this moment. The bullet struck her just above the left ear. She was carried into the house and Dr. George F. Rogan summoned, but the girl was dead when he arrived. The bullet passed entirely through her head coming out on the right side, Coroner Charles E Fairman, of Lyndonville, made an investigation and issued a certificate of accidental death.
The case is sad indeed and the sympathy of the public is extended the afflicted family and the sister prostrated over the tragedy she was so unwillingly the cause of. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home, Rev. M. E. Van Nostrand officiating.

Jay WOOD died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred C. TILLMAN, Thursday evening, February 9th. Until the past few months Mr WOOD had been active in the management of his farm east of Knowlesville, and his nursery stock, through which line he was well known throughout Western New York. His wife was Louise STEVENS, to whom he was married in 1866, and who passed away some years since.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. H. H. SNELL, of Fort Plain, New York, and Mrs. TILLMAN. The funeral was held at the residence of Mr. TILLMAN Sunday afternoon.

John Wesley WOOD died at the home of his son, Burt W. WOOD, Friday afternoon, December 26, 1930, following a light stroke a month ago and the infirmities of old age.
Mr. WOOD was born on the farm on which he died November 28, 1845. His parents were pioneers in this locality, coming here from the eastern part of the state. Mr. WOOD married Miss Helen COON of Shelby 62 years ago, and the couple moved to Medina 37 years ago, where they lived until 1923 when they returned to the home of their son. Mrs. WOOD died December 26, 1928, almost exactly to the hour two years before the death of her husband.
Besides the son, Burt W. WOOD, the surviving relatives are a daughter, Mrs. Olive SEARLES, of Buffalo, and four grandchildren. The funeral was held in the Wood home Monday afternoon, Rev. W. L. Findlay of Medina, officiating. Burial was in Lynhaven Cemetery.
The bearers were: Frank Morrison, Homer Garrett, Arthur Capen, Thomas Fellows, Ray Thomas and William Helsdon, Sr.

Another of Yates noble band of pioneers gone. Lewis WOOD sufered a paralytic shock about three months ago and passed away on Monday, April 14, at the ripe age of eighty-five years. A large circle of relatives and sympathizing friends attended the funeral at the residence on Wednesday. Service conducted by the pastor of the M. E. Church.
The immediate family consists of two sons, David, of Rochester, and Wesley, of Yates and three daughters Mrs. SKELLINGER, Mrs. GARDNER and Mrs. STOCKWELL, all of Yates.

Minnie C. WOOD, aged 74 years, wife of Ralph WOOD, died Wednesday at her home in Church Street (Middleport). Besides the husband she is survived by a brother in Albany, Ore., and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held this afternoon at two o'clock from the home, the Rev I. R. Peacock will officiate. Burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, West Shelby.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lydia AUSTIN of Lockport; Mrs. William CHAMBERS of Middleport; Mrs. Clara WOOD of Buffalo, and Mrs Arthur ELLIS of Medina; two bothers Ralph WOOD of Buffalo, and William of Lockport. The death of Miss Minnie WOODHULL occurred Thursday afternoon at three o'clock, at the home of Mrs. Carrie WOODHULL, on the Ridge road. Death due to heart disease. Miss WOODHULL was born in the town of Carlton in the year 1847, on August 25. The earlier part of her life was spent in Carlton, but for the last seventeen years her home had been with her brother, Wendell, where her death occurred. She had been unable to leave her bed for two weeks, but had been in failing health for several months.
Miss Woodhull is survived by one sister, Mrs. William GRIMES, two brothers, Elmer WOODHULL and Edward WOODHULL. The funeral was held at 1:30 Saturday afternoon, at the house, Rev. George T. Wright of Knowlesville, officiating. Burial in Carlton Cemetery.

The death of Elmer WOODHULL, a life long resident of Oak Orchard-on-the-Ridge occurred at the family residence Tuesday night. The deceased was in his 74th year of age. For many years Mr. Woodhull was engaged in the manufacture of cigars but had discontinued the business a few years ago, due to failing health. He is survived by a wife (Susan), one son, Gilbert, and a brother, Edward. The funeral will be held from his late home on Friday afternoon. The burial will take place at Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Lyndonville - Mrs. Alda WINNIE WOODROE, 78, wife of William WOODROE, died suddenly early today in her home on the South Lyndonville Rd. Born in Somerset she spent her early life in that area moving to Lyndonville following her marriage. She was one of the founders and an honorary member of the Lyndonville Literary & Historical Club and a member of the Lyndonville Methodist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are three sons, Eugene and Floyd WOODROE of Medina, and Alvin of Buffalo, one daughter Miss Eloise WOODROE of Endicott, N. Y. and six grandchildren, including Corp. Ross WOODROE now serving with the U. S. Army in Korea.
Funeral services will be held from the Smythe Funeral Home on Saturday at 2 p. m. The Rev. Raymond H. Draffin, pastor of the Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Lyndonville - Funeral services are being held at 2 o’clock this afternoon in the Smythe Funeral Home for the late Harris J. WOODROE, 78, who died Friday, April 7, in the Medina Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for one day. He had been ill about a week.
Born in the Town of Hartland, Niagara County, August 7, 1871, the deceased was the son of Joseph and Melissa BUSS WOODROE. During the last fifty years he has resided in the Town of Yates, where he engaged in farming as long as his health permitted. For some years he lived in Yates Center until the death of his wife, Hattie, in November 1948. Since that time he has resided on Eagle Street, this village. He was a member of the Yates Baptist Church.
His immediate survivors include two step-daughters, Mrs. Fred VALENTINE of the Ridge Road and Mrs. Kenneth FRASER, Jr., of Lyndonville; also one sister, Mrs. Ernest SEITZ, and one brother, William WOODROE, both of Lyndonville, R.D.
The Rev. Floyd A. CHILDS of the Yates Baptist Church will officiate at the service, and burial will be in the Waterport Cemetery.

Lyndonville - Hattie M. WOODROE, 68, wife of Harrison WOODROE died yesterday morning in the Medina Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for two weeks. Born in Oneida County, N.Y. June 8, 1880, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jeanette KINCAID NEWTON. Mrs. WOODROE had lived in this vicinity for the past thirty years. She was a member of the Yates Baptist Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Fred VALENTINE of Medina and Mrs. Kenneth FRASER, Jr., of Lyndonville; four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Arthur EDWARDS of Albion; and several nieces and nephews.

LYNDONVILLE - William WOODROE, 84, a retired farmer, died at his home in South Lyndonville Road this morning following a coronary attack on Saturday. He was born July 27, 1873, in the Town of Somerset, the son of Joseph and Minnie BUSS WOODROE. In Oct. 1894 he was married to Alda WINNIE, whose death occurred Dec. 28, 1950. They had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1944.
Mr. WOODROE operated a blacksmith shop for many years on the site of the present fire department building on Main St. Later he engaged in farming his property on West Ave., and after his retirement in 1946 he had made his home with his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene WOODROE of S. Lyndonville Road. He was a member of Lyndonville Methodist Church, the I.O.O.F. lodge and Lyndonville Grange 1146.
Surviving are three sons, Floyd of Medina, Alvin of Buffalo and Eugene; one daughter, Miss Eloise WOODROE of Endicott; one sister, Mrs. Ernest SEITZ of Lyndonville; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Albion - The funeral of David S. WOODS, eldest of the children of the late A. W. ( Alfred William) and Rose ALDRICH WOODS of this village, who died Tuesday in his home in Pelham Manor, were held today at 2 p.m. at the residence of his brother, Stanley T. WOODS, 309 West State Street, Albion. Mr. WOODS had been associated with the Niles Tool Company for the last 35 years. He is survived by his wife; one son, David F. As a result of running a sliver in his hand about three weeks ago, Frank WOODWORTH, who resides a mile and a half from Yates Center, died of lockjaw yesterday morning at 11 o'clock, after a short period of intense suffering. Mr. WOODWORTH is survived by a widow (Marie STOCKWELL) and one son (Dean). The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Lyndonville - The funeral of Grant J. WOODWORTH, was held from the M. E. Church on Friday at 2.30 p. m. The services were conducted by Rev. B. L. Duckwall. The Maccabees, of which he was a member, attended in a body to the number of over one hundred, and also directed the services at the grave.
He was the first one of that order to be taken away since its organization about five years ago in this place. Deceased leaves a wife (Lydia) and one child (Beatrice), also a father (Alonzo), two brothers (Willett & Frank) and one sister (Ella), all residents of this place. He was thirty-one years of age and had always resided in this town.

Mrs. Eliza M. WORMUTH, 89, widow of Adar WORMUTH, a lifelong resident of this vicinity,
died last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl S. ROSS, 116 Frank Street, following
a two weeks' illness.
Born May 17, 1858 in Shelby, Mrs. WORMUTH resided there until 1927, when she came to
Medina. Her husband died in 1884. Mrs. WORMUTH was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church
while a resident of Shelby, and since coming to Medina has been a member of the First
Baptist Church here. She was also an active member of the Philathea Class of the Baptist
Church.
Besides her daughter, she is survived by three grandchildren Norman ROSS of Albion, Adrian ROSS of Akron, and Mrs. Mabel NEHRBASS of Buffalo; also five grandchidren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Grant A. NEAL of Medina; and two nieces, Mrs. R.R. SAUNDERS of Medina, and Mrs. Mabel SMITH of Shelby Center.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ross, 116 Frank Street. The Rev. A.S. LOWRIE of Oswego and the Rev. Ralph D. ROSS of Medina Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, West Shelby."

Funeral Services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 p. m. from the Thibault Funeral Home here for Irving Bert WORMUTH, 71, a former Shelby Center resident, who died in Arnold Gregory Hospital, Albion, yesterday morning.
Born April 24, 1878, the son of Reuben W. WORMUTH and Rosetta A. SOWL, both deceased, he operated a general store in Shelby for some years with his brother, Arthur.
The Rev. William E. Towner, pastor of the Shelby Center Baptist Church, will officiate at funeral ceremonies, and burial will be in the family plot in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, W. Shelby.

The death of Mrs. Fannie V. (HILL) Woolston, a well known Gaines farmer, occurred last night, May 19, 1912, at the family home, one mile north of Gaines village. Mrs. WOOLSTON was 49 years old and was born in Kenyonville, NY Aug 30, 1862.
She leaves her husband, William J., four children, Nina L., Hazel M., Floyd H., and Robert W. of Gaines: six sisters, Mrs. Dr. Emily COOK of Buffalo, Mrs. Minerva WOODRUFF of Rochester, Miss Ada HILL of Carlton, Mrs. Effie WOOD, of Albion, Mrs. Sylvia McALLISTER of Knowlesville, Mrs. Mary JOHNSON who resides in Ohio: three brothers, Austin HILL of Knowlesville, William HILL of Clarendon, and John HILL of Walker, NY. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM at the family home with Rev C.H. Burroughs of Gaines Cong Church officiating. Interment in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Floyd Holmes WOOLSTON, 63, a farmer, automoble service station operator in Gaines for 20 years and a Town of Gaines constable for many years, died yesterday (April 1, 1958) in Buffalo General Hospital. A native of Knowlesville, he operated a service station in Gaines until 1944 when he purchased a farm on the Gaines Waterport Rd. where he had lived since that time. He was a veteran of World War 1 and was in the Tank Cor. Floyd was a member of Albion IOOF and Masonic Lodges.
He leaves his wife-Flora E. FRANKS WOOLSTON, four sons, Merle E. , William R., Glenn E. and Lee E., six Grandchildren, Sharon, Kathlene, Melanie, William, Rodney and Donna. A brother Robert (Elsie) Woolston and a sister Nina (Silas) WELLS as well as several nieces and nephews. Service at McNall Funeral Home on 156 S. Main St, Albion, NY Burial in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Floyd WOOLSTON, 63, died Tuesday morning in Buffalo General Hospital, where he was taken March 22, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Knowlesville, came to Gaines as a youth, married in 1919 and operated a service station in Gaines for 20 years, until 1944, when he bought the present farm on Gaines-Waterport Rd., where he has since lived. He was Town of Gaines constable for many years and still held that office at time of his death. He was a member of Odd Fellows and Masonic lodges in Albion.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Flora FRANKS WOOLSTON; four children, Merle, William, Glenn and Lee WOOLSTON; 6 grandchildren; one brother, Robert WOOLSTON; one sister, Mrs. Nina WELLS; several nieces and nephews, all of Rfd 4, Albion. Service will be at 2:30 p. m. this Thursday, with burial in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth JOHNSON WOOLSTON was born in Horsey, England, Jan 9, 1836 and died in her home in Carlton, NY, March 14, 1911 after a long illness. She was 75. Mrs WOOLSTON came to America at the age of 15 years with her parents and was married to Robert WOOLSTON, March 16, 1859, who still survives her. To this union were born five children, one dying in infancy. Four children, a daughter, Eva M. (George) CALLARD, sons, William J., Loren R. and Dr. Clayton Woolston of Gaines. Also two brothers, John F. and Matthew JOHNSON who resides in Michigan. Eleven grandchildren and one Great Grandchild. Mrs WOOLSTON's funeral was held March 17, 1911 from her home and conducted by Rev. O.C. Blowers, assisted by Rev. A.K. Bacon and J.J.Kelley. She was laid to rest in Otter Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Phoebe WOOLSTON, aged sixty-seven years, widow of the late Edward WOOLSTON, of Lyndonville, died early Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mark BARRY. She leaves two children, a daughter, Mrs. Mabel BARRY, with whom she lived, and a son, Warren WOOLSTON, of Detroit, and three grandchildren. The funeral took place from the home of her daughter, on Sunday. Rev. H. H. Brown, of the Presbyterian church officiating. The interment in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Robert WOOLSTON was born in Scraby England, July 14, 1835 and died at his home at 25 Caroline St, Albion, NY March 14, 1924-aged 89yr-8mo. He was the son of William and Ellen NICHOLS WOOLSTON and the last of his family of six children to leave this world. Mr. WOOLSTON came to America in 1855 with his parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers on a sailing vessel, which took some 28 strenuous days but landed safely in New York City.
In the winter of 1858-59 a wonderful revival of religion was held in Albion. He and his first wife, Mary Elizabeth were both converted and became charter members of the Free Methodist Church of Albion. On March 16, 1859, he was happily married to Mary Elizabeth JOHNSON. To this union, five children were born,Eva M (George) CALLARD of Carlton Station, William J. who passed away five years ago, Loren R. of Albion, Clayton E. died in infancy, Dr. Clayton S. of Spencerport. Mr. WOOLSTON spent most of his life in Carlton on the farm where he lived for 61 years.
On September 12, 1912, Mr. WOOLSTON married his second wife, Mary A. CLARK NORTHRUP of Barre. Besides his widow and three children, he leaves 10 grandchildren , 9 great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. The funeral was held Sunday at the Free Methodist Church at 2:30 P.M. Rev. E.A. Taylor officiating being assisted by Rev. A.K. Bacon and Rev. B.N. Miner. Burial was in Otter Creek Cemetery.

William John WOOLSTON was born in Carlton July 17,1863 and died at his farm home north of Gaines village May 8, 1919. He was in poor health for a long time. Mr. WOOLSTON leaves three children. Mrs. Nina (Silas) WELLS, of Carlton, Floyd H. WOOLSTON, of Company C. 336 Battalion T.C.A.E.F. who arrived from overseas the first of last week, but was not home until the morning after his father passed away, and Robert William WOOLSTON who works the home farm: his father Robert WOOLSTON, two brothers, Loren R. WOOLSTON of Albion, Dr Clayton S. WOOLSTON of Spencerport: one sister, Mrs. Eva M. CALLARD of Carlton Station, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. WOOLSTON was a loving indulgent father, a dutiful son, a kind brother, a good neighbor and will be missed by a host of friends. He had filled the office of deputy sheriff for many years and did his duty well. Mr. WOOLSTON was a member of the order of I.O.O.F. of Albion. The funeral was very largely attended at 2:30 PM . Rev. C.H. Burroughs, of Gaines officiating. Burial in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Maryanna WOZNIAK, 92, died Saturday afternoon, following a lingering illness, in the home of her son, Michael, of Middleport Road. Born in Poland, she came to Medina as a young girl. Her husband, Michael, died 8 years ago. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Sacred Heart Rosary Society.
Surviving, besides her son are five daughters, Mrs. John (Josephine) MIELCARSKI, Mrs. Leona MIELCAREK, Mrs. James Katherine LASKEY, Mrs. Vincent (Grace) ROSINSKI and Mrs. Frances ROZENBACH all of Medina; 26 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Also, her step-mother, Mrs. Leon WOCHNA, step-sisters and step-brothers.
Prayer services will be held Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. from the Gulinski Funeral Home, 420 Eagle St. Funeral Mass will be said at the Sacred Heart Church at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Rydz officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Michael WOZNIAK, Sr., 84, died suddenly last Friday afternoon at the home of his son, Michael, Jr., Middleport and Hoffman Roads. Born in Poland, Wozniak came to this country at the age of 21 and had resided in this vicinity all his life.
Beside his wife, Mary, he is survived by five daughters, Mrs. John MIELCARSKI, Mrs. Eleanor MIELCAREK, Mrs. James LASKEY, Mrs. Vincent ROSS and Mrs. Walter Rosenbeck, all of Medina; two sons, John and Michael, of Medina; one sister, Mrs. Veronica LEPKOSKE, of Medina, and 27 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from his late home, Middleport and Hoffman Roads, tomorrow at 8:15 a.m. and at 9 a.m. from Sacred Heart Church here, with the Rev. Anthony KRAWCZYK officiating. He will be buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Mrs. Adeline (LEWIS) WRIGHT died at the county almshouse Monday, aged 93 years. The funeral was held Tuesday morning, Rev. F. E. Sands officiating. Interment was in Bates Road Cemetery, town of Ridgeway.

Mrs. Ellsworth WRIGHT died at the family home on Park Avenue last evening at 7:30 after a long illness. Besides her husband deceased is survived by one son Gerald, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred POST of Holley, two sisters, Mrs. Pearl OSBORNE of Adam's Basin and Mrs. B. E. BEEDLE, of Holley. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial at Holley.

Augusta M. WRIGHT passed away on Aug. 31st, at the Gregory Memorial hospital, aged 75 years; cause of death cerebral apoplexy. On the 7th of April last she suffered a stroke of apoplexy, which paralyzed her right side and at her request she was taken to the hospital, where, under the efficient management of that institution and the constant care of the best of nurses, she lingered painlessly for nearly six months before she passed peacefully away. She was the last living descendant of Joseph A. WRIGHT, and Melinda SPENCER (WRIGHT), a pioneer family, who reclaimed a hundred acre farm from the wilderness, and which had always been in the possession of the family until two years ago. Three brothers, Daniel, Clark and Spencer, and one sister, Ida, all born and reared upon the old farm had previously passed away. The family were Universalists in faith, and the children were charter members of the Pullman Memorial church, where Mrs. WRIGHT's funeral was held on Sept. 3rd. Pastor Rev. E. L. Wood officiating.. Burial at Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Byron WRIGHT died at five o'clock p.m. on Thursday, September 20th, after a lingering illness. He leaves an aged mother to mourn his loss. Interment in the Harmon cemetery (Bates Road Cemetery) on the Bates road.

Mrs. Clark WRIGHT died December 7th from paralysis of the spine, aged 54 years. A great sufferer, she was patient and resigned, and gladly welcomed "sweet rest". She was married in 1874 and lived near Rich's Corner's for the past 29 years. The family wish to express their sincere thanks to friends and neighbors for their great kindness and sympathy in their bereavement.

Waterport - The death of Mrs. Selden WRIGHT of this community occurred suddenly at her home yesterday at 4 p. m., the result of a cerebral hemorrhage. Mrs. WRIGHT, the former Edith RACKHAM, was one of the oldest residents of the Waterport area, the daughter of two of its early settlers (Joshua RACKHAM & Ellen BENTLEY). She is survived by her husband; one son, Ransford of Batavia, and one grandson.
Mrs. WRIGHT was a member of the Waterport Methodist Church and was active in the work of this organization until prevented by illness of the past few years. During the recent war she assisted in Red Cross work.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4 p. m. from the Grinnell Funeral Home, Albion, the Rev. Gordon Kurtz of Waterport Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Waterport Cemetery.

Mrs. R. B. WRIGHT died at her home on Main street Wednesday night, May 1, 1929, after a lingering illness of nearly a year, aged 76 years.
Ella WRIGHT was born in Clayton, Jefferson county, March 9, 1853. At the age of 15, she graduated from Belleville Union academy and three years later from Hungerford’s Collegiate institute, Adams, N. Y. She taught school after her graduation and was considered one of the best teachers in Jefferson county. Before she was 21 years of age, she was the principal of Union school of Three Mile Bay and Chaumont. In January, 1877, she married Dr. Richard B. Wright and came to Lyndonville to live, spending the remaining years of her life in this village. She was a member of the King’s Daughters.
The surviving relatives are a son, Dr. Arthur M. WRIGHT, and two grandsons, Richard and Stanchfield WRIGHT of New York city, also a sister, Mrs. W. H. GARLAND, of Buffalo.
The funeral service was held at St. Joseph's Catholic church Saturday morning at 10 o’clock, Rev. Father Garvey and Rev. Father Hogan of Medina, officiating, with Rev. Father McCoy of New York city, assisting. Burial was in Lynhaven Cemetery. The bearers were Jay Breed, Ernest Breed, Charles Dates, John Gray, Harmon Rowley and Frank Barry.

Lyndonville - Mrs. Emma F. WRIGHT, 83, died in Mesler Nursing Home, Gasport, February 5, 1955. She was the widow of Ward WRIGHT, whose death occurred in 1950. Death came as the result of a stroke. Mrs. WRIGHT was born October 8, 1871 in Goshen, Indiana. On November 6, 1889, she was united in marriage with Ward WRIGHT in Mount Ayr, Iowa. They moved to Lyndonville in 1891 and since that time had resided in Orleans County until recently. She was a member of the Lyndonville Presbyterian Church, its Guild and Worthwhile Class.
Surviving are four sons, Earl of Detroit, Mich., Alley of Kent, Cecil of Lake Wales, Florida, and Lyle of Mount Morris; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas WILSON and Mrs. Chester THURSTON, Lockport. There are also 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, and four brothers, Burr ALLEY of Forest Park, Ill., David ALLEY of Denver, Colo., Lloyd ALLEY of Green Valley, California, and Edward ALLEY of Seattle, Wash., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Smythe Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in charge of the Rev. Richard Billingsley, pastor of the Lyndonville Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Lynhaven Cemetery.

Thanksgiving Day Hunter is Killed.
Frederick WRIGHT, 35 years old, of Kenyonville, was killed when hunting at
4 o'clock Thursday afternoon in rear of a farm belonging to Russell Clark, a mile and
a half west of Lake Side Park. WRIGHT and three companions, George Harvey, George Sadler
and Walter Brackenberry, had started on a hunting expedition. It is said that as they
were climbing a fence at the edge of a field, with Wright in the lead, one of the guns
was discharged. WRIGHT cried out, "Oh, my back" and fell to the ground. He lived for
twenty minutes after the shot was fired. Coroner A. I. Eccleston, of Waterport, will make
an investigation. It is not known who carried the weapon that was fired.

Lyndonville - Ward WRIGHT, 88, died Monday afternoon at his home here, 57 North Main Street, after a prolonged illness. Born in the Town of Somerset on July 5, 1862, he was the son of William and Amanda BULLEN Wright and married Emma ALLEY in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, on November 6, 1889. With the exception of the first year of their marriage, the couple lived in this vicinity all the remainder of their lives, maintaining residence at various times in Lyndonville, Medina and Knowlesville. WRIGHT was in charge of the Shelby Center station of the Medina Water Works for a period of 17 years, and had returned to Lyndonville to make his home six years ago.
He was one of the oldest members of the Orleans Lodge 217, I.O.O.F., in Medina and attended the (Presbyterian*) Church. Mr. and Mrs. WRIGHT were honored last November on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four sons, Earl of Detroit, Alley of Kent, N.Y., Cecil of Medina, and Lyle of Rochester; two daughters, Mrs. Tom WILSON and Mrs. Chester THURSTON, both of Lockport; one sister, Mrs. Bertha KENNY, Gasport, and 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p. m. at the Smythe Funeral Home here, with the Rev. R. H. Draffin officiating. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

ALBION, April 12 - Mrs. Hulda WRIGHT, a native of Somerset died in the Arnold Gregory Memorial Hospital today (April 12, 1954) five days before her 75th birthday. She attended the Eagle Harbor Methodist Church and leaves her husband, Raymond E. WRIGHT of Eagle Harbor; four daughters, Mrs. Harold SPEED of Oakfield, Mrs. Elvira FURNESS of Kendall, Mrs. Cecil PUTNEY of Elma and Mrs. Frances TOMPKINS of Knowlesville; three sons, Claude of Medina, Leonard of Lyndonville and Raymond of Kent; also 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Grinnell Funeral Home, 230 South Main St., Albion, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Kenyonville Cemetery.

Albion- Mrs. Jessie WRIGHT, 89, widow of Coley WRIGHT who was Orleans County Democratic assemblyman from 1910 to 1914 after having been supervisor of the Town of Albion from 1906 to 1910 died yesterday (Mar. 18, 1948) in thc Arnold Gregory Memorial Hospital here. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church and had lived in Albion for 85 years. Friends may call at the Wright home at Riches Corners, Albion, until 11 a. m. tomorrow. Funeral will be held at 2 p. m. tomorrow in the Merrill Funeral Home, with burial in Mt. Albion Cemetery.
Survivors include six sons, Leon WRIGHT, George WRIGHT, Harry WRIGHT, Dean WRIGHT, and Rance WRIGHT, all of Albion, and Donald WRIGHT, of Brockport; a daughter, Mrs. Henry W. ANNABLE of Scotia; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Edith CALKINS of Los Angeles.

Joseph WRIGHT died on the 3rd inst., at the Orleans county almshouse, aged 88 years. He was a native of England and was committed to the institution by the town of Shelby.

Dr. Richard B. WRIGHT, who for several weeks has been ailing from the effects of heart trouble, passed peacefully away at his home in this village, about twelve o’c1ock noon on Tuesday, July 18, aged 63. He arose 8 o’clock in the morning, dressed and later sought a comfortable couch on the front veranda, where he passed most of the forenoon in reading. Time passed on and Mrs. WRIGHT began preparations for dinner; when dinner was ready; she went to announce the fact to Dr. WRIGHT, and discovered that he was dying. Mr. Warren Hutchison hurriedly called Dr. C. E. Fairman, who quickly responded and found that life was extinct.
Dr. Wright’s son, Dr. Arthur M. WRIGHT, of New York City, who was immediately wired of his father’s death, left New York at 4:00 p. m. Tuesday, on fast express, and arrived in Medina at l:04 Wednesday morning, reaching Lyndonville by auto, at 1:30. Episcopalian funeral service will be held at the home at 2:30 this (Thursday) afternoon. Interment will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.
It was the expression of all business men to close their places of business and attend the funeral. A more extended obituary will be printed in these columns later.

Death of S. A. WRIGHT
Spencer A. WRIGHT, one of the best known farmers of the town of Albion, died at his home east of Rich's Corners on Sunday, aged 70 years. He was a son of Joseph A. WRIGHT, who came here from Columbia county when a young man and who married Melinda SPENCER in 1831, by whom he had five children, of whom Spencer was the oldest. The deceased never married. He was widely known as a sheep breeder for many years, his flock of Merinos being one of the best in Western New York. For some years he was actively identified with the Agricultural Society as a director. He is survived by one brother, Clark, and two sisters, Augusta and Ida. He was born on the farm where he died and will be remembered as a true friend, a genial neighbor, and a loving, generous brother, and sincerely mourned by all who knew him. The funeral will be held this afternoon at the family home, Rev. A. W. Grose officiating.

William WRIGHT, 79, died yesterday morning at his home at 508 Church Street, after a lingering illness. Surviving are his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Edward YORKIE and Mrs. John HAND of South Dakota, and Mrs. Henry PETTIS of Middleport; three sons, Warren of Albion; Eugene of Lyndonville and Francis of Millville; two sisters, Mrs. PLUMMER of
Buffalo and Mrs. COLDWALDER of Pennsylvania; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services are to be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Cleary Funeral home at 228 Eagle Street. Interment at Millville Cemetery, the Rev. A. S. Lowrie officiating.

Lyndonville - The death of Mrs. Pearl L. WULF, 51, wife of Elmer C. WULF of Yates, occurred at 4:30 a.m. today at Medina Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since July 28, undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness.
Born in the Town of Yates on January 26, 1898, Mrs. Wulf had lived her life in the same house in which she was born at St. John’s Corners until her removal to the Medina Hospital. She was the daughter of Salem W. and Mildred HENRY MOORE and in 1918 married Elmer WULF.
Active in most of the affairs of her community all her life, Mrs. WULF was best known throughout the county for her long service with the County Home Bureau organization. A member of her own Yates Home Bureau she also served for seven years on the board of directors of the county group and was, in addition, a member of Orleans Public Health and Child Welfare Board. A member of the Yates Baptist Church, she took part in the missionary work of that church and was a member of the Herculean Class. For the past several years she had also been correspondent for the Journal-Register from the Yates community.
Mrs. Wulf is survived by her husband; one sister, Mrs. Dalllas WHITNWEY of Lyndonville; and one niece and a nephew. Funeral services will be held Saturday from the Smythe Funeral Home, 112 North Main St., Lyndonville, at 2:30 p. m. with Rev. Floyd A. CHILDS of the Yates Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Lynhaven Cemetery.

Mrs. Flora CHURCHILL WYLIE, 81, widow of the late James WYLIE, died at her home in Gaines, Saturday. She was born in Chittenden, Vermont, and was a member of the Weslayan Church there and of the Gaines W. C. T. U. A daughter, Mrs. Carrie May FRANKS, of Gaines, survives her.
The funeral services were held at two o’clock yesterday from the FRANK’s home in Gaines with Rev. C. H. Burroughs of Savannah, N. Y., former Gaines pastor officiating.

Mrs. Anna Maria WYMAN was born in Middleburg, Schoharie Co., N. Y., December 18th, 1835, and died in Millville, N. Y., May 23d, 1900, at the age of sixty four. When six years old with her parents she moved to Orleans county where she continued to live until her death. In July, 1851, she was married to Sheldon WYMAN and to them were born six children, four of whom are left to mourn her loss - Mrs. William MANN, of Millville; Mrs. John EUREICH, of Aurora, South Dakota; S. M. WYMAN and Berry WYMAN, of Millville.
During the pastorate of Rev. Walter Dynes, Mrs. WYMAN united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, of Millville, of which church she has since been a faithful and active member. Mrs. Wyman was a woman of much energy and force of character and deeply interested in the work of the church and in works of reform. Mrs. WYMAN was for a long time and always very active in any and every good work and she will be greatly missed in the community. The funeral services were held on Saturday, May 26th, from the house and the church in charge of Rev. W. A. Harris burial in Millville Cemetery.

WYMAN - Charles WYMAN, of Pueblo, Col., died of typhold pneumonia, Feb. 18th, 1881, aged 18 years and six months.
Deceased was the second son of Sheldon S. WYMAN, Esq., of Millville, Orleans county, N. Y., and had been a resident of Colorado nearly two years and was engaged in a smelting establishment at Pueblo, where, about two weeks previous to his death, he was injured very severely by a switch engine. He had begun to recover from his injuries when he was attacked by typhoid pneumonia, which resulted in his death.
His remains were forwarded to the home of his parents, at Millville, where funeral ceremonies were held on Friday, Feb. 25th, Rev. Mr. TYLER, Pastor of the Congregational Church, of Millville, officiating. The funeral was attended by a large concourse of friends and neighbors, to whom Mr. and Mrs. WYMAN wish to return their sincere thanks for their help and sympathy in this their hour of sorrow.

The death of S. Monroe WYMAN, 68 years old, occurred at his home in Millville Saturday evening at 5 o'clock, following a long illness. Mr. WYMAN suffered a shock about one year ago from the effects of which he had partially recovered but was taken seriously ill on Christmas day at the home of his son, where he was celebrating the holiday, and had been confined to his bed since that time. Mr. WYMAN was one of the most prominent farmers around Millville for many years, having retired from active farming a few years ago and lived in Millville since then. He was an active member of the Millville Methodist Episcopal Church for many years, having held a number of different offices in connection with the church and Sunday school. He also was an active worker in the Prohibition movement.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Evelyn HOAG WYMAN; a daughter, Mrs. John ANSTEY, of Millville; three sons, George, of Charlotte; Charles, of Medina, and Otis, of Millville, and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Millville Methodist Church at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. E. D. Robinson officiating. Interment was made in Millville Cemetery.
