1. TIMOTHY TOWNSEND (son of JONATHAN & MARY (OTIS)
TOWNSEND) was born about 1738, probably in Hancock, Berkshire Co, MA.
Timothy moved to New Canaan in 1757 about the age of 22. Timothy was "fence
viewer in Capt. Arnold's beat." He was a farmer and a member of the First
Baptist Church, Flatbrook, New York. His will dated 24 July 1823 was
probated 1 May 1833.
According to the research of Fran (Townsend) Ewers, Timothy married a total
of four times. The name of his second wife is not known. The name of his
third wife was Mary or Molly and Mary Olmstead was his fourth wife.
In 1799, forty-two years after moving to Canaan, NY, Timothy continued his
westward migration to Jefferson County, NY. There are records showing he
recorded a land purchase in the Town of Champion. He is also on record in
1801 as a resident of Champion when he signed a petition regarding road
improvement.
Timothy's farm was located on Hall Road west of the Village of Champion
Huddle. It had a creek running through it that appeared on early maps as
Townsend Creek, now named Mill Creek. Land records in Watertown, NY, for
Jefferson County show that Timothy sold 58 acres to his son Josiah in 1809.
Timothy had returned to Columbia County by 1810 as that is where he is
residing at the time of the census. In his will made in 1823, he made
mention that his three sons did not reside in Columbia County. They were in
fact living in Jefferson County. He died 11 Mar 1832 at Canaan, Columbia Co,
NY and was buried in Flatbrook, Columbia Co, NY

8. JOSIAH TOWNSEND (son of TIMOTHY & ELIZABETH (---)
TOWNSEND) was born 12 Mar 1770 at Canaan, Columbia Co, NY. Josiah
probably settled in Jefferson County about 1801. In the History of
Jefferson County, 1793-1894 it states that "Methodists first formed a legal
society, December 30, 1825, with M. Andrews, Wilson Pennock, and Josiah
Townsend as trustees." This passage is in reference to the Village of
Champion Methodist Church. He died 19 Mar 1860 in Savannah, Wayne Co.
NY and was buried Mar 1860 in Champion, Jefferson County.

DOLLY PARKER, who was the daughter of JOHN? PARKER. She was born
11 Aug 1769 in Connecticut. She died 28 Nov 1856 in Jefferson Co, NY
and was buried in Champion, Jefferson Co, NY.

TOWNSEND) was born 12 Feb 1800 in New York State. "Warren Townsend
was a farmer by occupation. He and Mehitabel located in the
Empire State and there were born to them seven children, five daughters and
two sons. The family came to Calhoun Co, Michigan about the year 1856 and

(SPRINGER) LEWIS. She was born about Aug 1816 in Champion, Jefferson Co,
NY. She died 27 Feb 1889 in Hubbardston, Ionia Co, MI. She is identified in
the 1890 edition of Childs Gazetteer of Jefferson County as "Sabra Ann (Mrs. D.
Townsend), in Michigan."
