1. JOEL BIGELOW, (son of JOTHAM & MARY (RICHARDSON) BIGELOW was born 20 June 1752 at Holden, Worcester County, MA. His
father had early removed to Gilford, Windham County, VT. Joel settled there, where he owned a large farm in the center
of town, and where their children were born.
Joel was active in the Militia, and served in the Revolution, having the rank of Colonel. During the Guilford Incident
between New York and Vermont concerning the jurisdiction over the Southern Vermont , he and his father took
sides with New York. He was elected a member of the Assembly in 1784 from Cumberland County, as it was
then called. He was also commissioned an Adjutant by the State of New York about that time. Soon after his
wife died, Joel moved to Ellisburg, NY to live with his son Jotham. There he died 14 October 1825
and is burried.
He married about 1773
SARAH STOWELL of Petersham (b at Nichewaug, MA), daughter of JOHN and SARAH (PARMENTER) STOWELL.
SARAH, born circa 1750, died in Guilford circa 1821.

6. WILLIAM M. BIGELOW (son of JOEL & SARAH (STOWELL) BIGELOW was born 16 Nov 1781 and died 6 Oct 1849.
