Greetings, My name is Daniel Sweet and for some time I have been researching my families origins. I have hit a dead-end, I'm afraid with my ggGrandfather, Thomas J. SWEET. Thomas J. SWEET was born March 22, 1808, we believe in Erie County, NY. He married Electa LOCKWOOD of New Paltz, NY (born March 8, 1825) on August 29, 1847 in Quincy, MI. I have found land patents that show Thomas J. SWEET of Erie County purchased land in MI in 1837. I cannot locate any information on who his parents were, whether he had a previous marriage. I find it strange that he did not marry till he was 39 years old and was 17 years older than his wife. Thomas died in Ovid Township, MI in 1856. If there is any information that you might have or direction or suggestions, I would be most grateful. Thank you.

My gggg grandfather was one Martin MALIN, born in Satteins Austria and emmigrated from Germany in 1851 to Lancaster NY. He was married to a Theresa BOECHAT (BOCHARD) - various spellings and had two sons born in Germany, plus other children born here in Lancaster. He died in 1891 and is buried at St Mary's. From batisimal records we have determined that the godparents of one of his children included one Franciscus Francis) BOECHAT, which we believe to be related to his wife. I am searching for information on Theresa and am looking for any descendants of Francis BOECHAT which could reveal country and location of orgin of the BOECHAT surname. We believe it is either Switerland or Alsace/Lorraine, as it is claimed she spoke French, while her husband spoke German and both she and he claimed Switerland as their country of origin on the 1870 census. (He lied - both on the census and on his 1867 naturalization papers). We know he was not married in Austria as there is no recorded BOECHAT or registry of his marraige in the parrish records of Satteins, so he must have met Theresa in Switerland or Germany while building up a stake to emmigrate to the US.
