Near, of 12 Third Street, died Tuesday morning in Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk. Mrs. Near was a member and past matron of Sylvia Chapter, 476, Order of the Eastern Star; member and past noble grand of Lakeside Rebekah Lodge, Cassadaga; past district deputy of the Rebekah Lodge and a member of the Chautauqua County Historical Society. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one step-son, O. Melford Near, Cassadaga; four step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Arlie Peacay, Tonawanda. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Sampsell & Jordan Funeral Home.

Winton, 68, of Route 380, died Sunday, (June 22, 2000) in WCA Hospital. He was born Feb. 2, 1921, in Jamestown, the son of the late Floyd and Dorothy Persons Winton. A Chautauqua County resident his entire life, he was a 1949 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School. He was self-employed as a dairy farmer his entire life, and drove a school bus for Cassadaga Valley Central School for 32 1/2 years. He was a member of the Chautauqua County Farm Bureau and the Gerry Board of Assessment and Review and was a trustee for the Red Bird Cemetery Association. He was a member and committeeman for the Farm Service Agency and Agway and served on the Agricultural Advisory Board for Cassadaga Valley Central School Future Farmers of America. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association, the Rodeo City Senior Citizens and attended South Stockton Wayside Chapel. He enjoyed traveling, his grandchildren and spending his winters in Florida. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Elaine Wickstrom Winton, whom he married Sept. 3, 1955, in Levant Wesleyan Church; four sons: Jeffrey Winton of Long Valley, N.J.; Monty, Todd and Scott Winton, all of Sinclairville; six grandchildren: Todd Jr., Brooks, Brian, Jason, Felicia and Melissa Winton, all of Sinclairville; and two sisters, Esther Smith and Mary Nowell, both of Jamestown. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. The Rev. Philip J. Shay, pastor of South Stockton Wayside Chapel, will officiate. Burial will be in Red Bird Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the South Stockton Wayside Chapel.

Winton, 95, a resident of Towerville for the past 58 years, died Monday afternoon (Dec. 3, 1962). She was born June 11, 1867 in Erie County, Pa., the daughter of Edward and Jane Porter Sturdevant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer E. Winton, who died Dec. 11, 1940. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lena Perry, Sinclairville; two sons, Floyd E. Winton, with whom she resided, and Lloyd E. Winton, Ellery; 10 grandchildren, 20 great -grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. The Rev. Mary Hale of the South Stockton Church of God will officiate. Burial will be in Red Bird Cemetery.

Winton, Floyd Ellsworth. b. Mar. 21, 1895 Crawford County, Pa. d. Sept. 14, 1968. Age 73. s/o Elmer E. & Sarah (Sturdevant) Winton. md. Aug. 11, 1927 - Dorothy M. Persons. PJ: 9/ /1968: Towerville: Floyd E. Winton, 73, of Kimball Stand-South Stockton road, collapsed and died while working in his silo Saturday afternoon. Coroner, Frederick Hitchcock of Jamestown issued a certificate of death due to natural causes. Mr. Winton was born March 21, 1895 in Crawford County, Pa., the son of Elmer and Sarah Sturdevant Winton. He was a 50-year member of Centralia Grange, and had served as committeeman for Chautauqua County Extension Service. For 14 years he was superintendent of Red Bird Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Persons Winton, a patient at Roswell Park Memorial Institute; two daughters, Mrs. Esther Smith and Mrs. Mary Nowell, both of Jamestown; a son, Archie L. Winton of Towerville; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lena Perry of Sinclairville, and a brother, Lloyd Winton of Jamestown.

PJ: 7/ /1974: Sinclairville: Mrs. Lena Winton Perry, 86, formerly of 17 Main St., died Tuesday morning in Battersby Convalescent Home in Erie, Pa. where she had been a patient for more than two years. Mrs. Perry was born Dec. 22, 1887 in Crawford County, Pa., the daughter of Elmer and Sarah Sturdevant Winton. She was the widow of William M. Perry, who died April 29, 1953. Mrs. Perry was active with the Red Bird Cemetery Association and had served as secretary of the group for several years. She attended Park United Methodist Church. She is survived by a son, Lyle H. Perry, Sapulpa, Okla.; a daughter, Mrs. Zadie Raner, Bemus Point; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and a brother, Lloyd E. Winton, Jamestown. She was preceded in death by two sons, Milton Perry who died July 9, 1966 and Elmer W. Perry who died Jan. 31, 1971, and by a brother, Floyd E. Winton who died Sept. 14, 1968. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. The Rev. Gaylord C. Teneyck of Park United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Red Bird Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home.
