died at the home of her stepdaughter, Mrs. Hattie Dolan, 79 1/2 Barker
Street, at 7 o’clock last night, aged 80 years. She had been ill for
some time. Mrs. Hall is survived by two daughters, Mrs. May Dowd of
Bemus Point, and Mrs. Mable Dowd of Sugar Grove, Pa.; three
stepdaughters, Mrs. Dolan, Mrs. Maude Rounds of Poland and Mrs. Blanche
Haynes; one stepson, James Hall of this city; a brother, Oscar Dowd of
Bemus Point, and several grandchildren. Mrs. Hall was born in Ellery
and had resided here for the past twelve years. The funeral will be
held Friday, with burial in Red Bird Cemetery. Bearers at the funeral
of Mrs. Hall were: John Haynes, Ralph Whitcomb, Charles Dowd, Francis
Dowd, James Hall and Fred Dolan.

Joslyn, 80, of 3183 Dutch Hollow Road, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday (Oct. 6, 2003) in his home. A lifelong resident of Bemus Point, he was born Feb. 26, 1923 in Jamestown, the son of Stephen A. and Sarah Ann Pickard Joslyn. He was a 1941 graduate of Bemus Point High School and attended the General Electric School in Erie, for four years as a machinist apprentice. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy from July 24, 1944 to June 9, 1946, where he served as a machinist mate aboard the USS Murrelet Minesweeper in the Pacific Theatre. He had been employed as a machinist maintenance supervisor by Chautauqua Hardwiare for 39 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Bemus Point United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee; a member of Ira Lou Spring Post 149 American Legion and was a life member of John W. Tiffany Post 53 VFW. He loved life as well as his family and many friends. He had many interests especially antique cars and Buicks. He recently had portholes placed in his own Buick. He also loved nature and the lake, where he spent summers in his family cottage in Sunnyside on Chautauqua Lake. He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Clauson Joslyn, whom he married April 29, 1950 in Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church; four daughters: Paula E. Lawrence and Christine M. Urbanik, both of Bemus Point. Mary K. Hawkins of Dade City, Fla., and Barbara A. Robbins of Sinclairville; a son, Steven J. Joslyn of North Tonawanda; 15 grandchildren: Jennifer Jones of Elon College, N.C., Angela Lawrence of Charlotte, N.C., Elizabeth White of Canton, Conn., Andrew "Giff" Lawrence of Boston, Nicholas Urbanik of Liverpool, Jill and Dawn Urbanik, both of Bemus Point, David and Laurie Hawkins, both of Dade City, Kimberly Hawkins of Erie, Kristin Hawkins of Tampa, Fla., Branden and Jenna Robbins, both of Sinclairville, and Zachary and Rebecca Joslyn of North Tonawanda; and five great-grandchildren. McBride, pastor, officiated. Eulogies were given by his son-in-law Andrew Lawrence and his daughter Barbara Robbins. Music was provided by Bonnie Davis as organist: Burial was in the Red Bird Cemetery, Town of Ellery. The bearers were Steven Joslyn, Andrew and Andrew "Giff" Lawrence, James and Nicholas Urbanik, Steve Hawkins and David Robbins. Graveside military honors were conducted by the John W. Tiffany Post #53 VFW under the command of Oke Lindell and chaplain was James Baer. The Lind Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

D. A. R. of Jamestown, Lakeside Garden Club, Marvin House and the Graduate Nurses Association. Surviving are two brothers: Robert J. Joslyn and Gordon R. Joslyn of Bemus Point. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dudley P. Joslyn, who died Oct. 20, 1987.

Bemus Point: Robert J. Joslyn, 78, of 4438 Mahanna Rd. died at 6:40
p.m. Saturday (Oct. 19, 1996) in WCA Hospital. A lifelong area
resident, he was born Nov. 13, 1917 in Jamestown, the son of Stephen
and Sarah Pickard Joslyn. Prior to retirement in 1983, he was employed
by Chautauqua Hardware Corporation for over 20 years. A veteran of
World War II, he served in the U. S. Navy. Surviving are his wife,
Doris Anderson Joslyn, whom he married Aug. 19, 1939; a son, Thomas
Joslyn of Jamestown; four grandchildren: Kevin Joslyn of Sinclairville,
Sarah and Rebekah Joslyn of Bemus Point, and David Cave; and a brother,
Gordon Joslyn of Bemus Point. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel
R. Joslyn on June 1, 1990; a brother, Dudley Joslyn; and a sister,
Pauline Joslyn. The funeral will be held at the convenience of the
family. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in the Red Bird
Cemetery, Sinclairville. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army.

Jamestown, formerly of Mahanna Road, Bemus Point, died at 3:00 a.m.
Friday (Dec. 23, 2005) in the Heritage Park Health Care Center. A
livelong area resident, she was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Jamestown, a
daughter of John B. and Mabel Lindquist Anderson. She was a 1936
graduate of Jamestown High School, and prior to retirement in 1983, was
employed by the Chautauqua County Department of Social Services.
Surviving are her son, Thomas Joslyn of Jamestown; four grandchildren:
Kevin, Sarah, Rebekah, and David; eight great-grandchildren; and a
niece, Lois Swanson of Westfield, who was very close to her. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Joslyn, whom she married
Aug. 19, 1939; and who died Oct. 19, 1996; a son, Daniel R. Joslyn who
died June 1, 1990; a brother, Clare M. Anderson in 1991; and a sister,
Audrey E. Garverick in 1997. The funeral will be held at the
convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Burial will
be in Red Bird Cemetery, Sinclairville. Memorials may be made to the
Salvation Army. Arrangements are by the Lind Funeral Home.

He was a foreman of the cutting department of Pearl City Plywood Company, where he had worded for 35 years. He was a member of Woodmen of the World. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sara Pickard Joslyn, a daughter, Miss Pauline Joslyn of the staff of the Mt. Sinal Hospital in Cleveland, O.; three sons: Dudley P. Joslyn, Robert J. Joslyn, and Gordon R. Joslyn all of Greenhurst; a granddaughter, Ann Shirley Joslyn; a sister, Mrs. Alfred Chall of Mayville; four brothers, William J. Joslyn of Eagle Bridge, Benjamin Joslyn and Charles F. Joslyn of Greenhurst; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Joslyn was born in Rensselaer County, September 18,1877. The remains are at the Henderson & Lincoln Funeral Home.

Red Bird Cemetery. PJ: 2/ /1964: Ellington: Mrs. Etta Kibbe Smith, 67, died at her home, near Bates, N.Y., early Sunday morning (Feb. 22, 1964), following a two month’s illness. Mrs. Smith had been a correspondent for the Jamestown Post Journal for 20 years until ill health prevented her from continuing her duties. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cherry Creek, and of the Hattie Rhodes WCTU. She was born Oct. 2, 1896 in the Town of Ellery, the daughter of Ernest and Mary Hodge Kibbe. Her survivors include her husband, Wesley W. Smith, a daughter, E. Marian Smith, at home; four sisters, Mrs. Iva Mellor of Gerry; Mrs. Ruth Cameron of Falconer; Mrs. Mary Saulsgiver of Dearborn, Mich.; Mrs. Bernice Koser of Jamestown; three brothers, Earl Kibbe, South Dayton; Allie Kibbe of Charlotte Center and Lloyd Kibbe of Webster. She was preceded in death by one brother, Edwin Kibbe, in 1930. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday at the Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville, with the Rev. William T. Carter of the Sinclairville First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Red Bird Cemetery.

E., Jamestown, died at 7:35 a.m. Monday, (Dec. 21, 1981) in Manor Oak Skilled Nursing Facility. She was the widow of Alfred Ferguson, who died in October, 1947. A Sinclairville resident before coming to Jamestown in 1952, Mrs. Ferguson was born on Pickard Hill, Ellery Township, Jan. 22, 1894, a daughter of John W. and DeLeah Fenton Kiley. She and her husband had operated a farm in Ellery. She had been employed at the former National Worsted Mills. Mrs. Ferguson was a member of Park United Methodist Church, Sinclairville, and a former member of the Grange. Surviving are two daughters: Edith Holthouse of RD, Clymer, and Elizabeth Sherman of Ashville; six grandchildren: Juanita Porter of Jamestown, Margaret Peters of Dolphin, Ala., Linda Sprigg of Lakewood, Geraldine Yaw of Arizona, Ann Neckers of Amherst and Mary Holthouse of Clymer; seven great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and a step-great-grant-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by two sons: Robert C. Cole, who died in 1976, and George Ferguson, who died in 1947, a sister, Elsie Blodgett, who died in 1979, and a brother, John D. Kiley. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Russell I. Hindereer, pastor of Bethany Church of God, will officiate. Burial will be in Red Bird Cemetery.

He was born Jan. 23, 1929 in Buffalo, the son of Otto and Lola Sunderland Knapp. Before retiring, he was employed by Crescent Tool and the Overhead Door Co., in Orlando, Fla. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a former member of the Sugar Grove American Legion. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers. No funeral services or visitation will be observed. Burial will be in Red Bird Cemetery. Arrangements are by Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg.
