    Coronado Chapter was organized on 20 October 1938 by Mrs. W.G. Donley, Honorary State Regent and Chapter Organizing Regent, assisted by Mrs. Robert K. Bell of Faywood, New Mexico, then State Regent, and Mrs. Francis Wilson of Santa Fe, Past Vice President General and Honorary State Regent. The name Coronado was chosen in recognition of Francisco Vasquez Coronado, Spanish Conquistador, whose search for Gran Quivira, in 1541, brought him into the area near where Hobbs now stands. Coronado Chapter in Hobbs and Caprock Chapter, of Lovington, were merged about 1990. Caprock Chapter had been organized on 12 January 1962, with Mrs. Elizabeth Clardy as the Organizing Regent. Caprock Chapter selected its name because it aptly described the steep escarpment or palisade that borders the high plains area in which Lea County is located.     WHAT WE DO

    1. DAR has always been proud of the men and women who serve in America's military, and engages in a variety of service projects for active duty servicemen and veterans.

    2. DAR supports 6 schools in its mission to promote education. And we encourage school children to learn more about American History by its essay awards and Good Citizen contests.

    3. Members are encouraged to locate, transcribe, and submit original source records of a genealogical nature to the NSDAR collection. This fine collection is housed in Washington, DC. and easily accessed.

    Prospective members are welcome and assistance is available in filling out Membership applications
