Welcome to Cedar County, Nebraska

Nebraska became a territory of the United States in 1854, and Cedar County was organized by the Territorial Legislation February 12, 1857, more than ten years before Nebraska became a state.

These pages were developed to assist those researching their family histories in Cedar County and will be updated regularly. If you have comments or suggestions, please direct them to NEGenWeb Cedar County Coordinator, Twila Anderson.

My Nebraska ancestors, whom I have researched extensively, include the Gildersleeve, Cunninghan, Giese, and Beckenhauer (Boeckenhauer) families. My husband's family was more challenging as they immigrated from Norway and changed their names--Bikjend became Anderson, and Julusmoen became Nilsen.
