Hettinger County History

Hettinger County was established 9 Mar 1883; organized 17 Apr 1907. The county seat was placed at Mott, located on the Cannonball River.

The county was named for Mathias K Hettinger (1810-1890) chosen by his son-in-law, territorial legislator Erastus A Williams.
Area of county - 1135 square miles.
The 1930 population was it's peak population.
2000 population -- 2,715.
