Area Lookup Volunteers

After numerous requests from area researchers, and after a number of persons kindly volunteered to do lookups from the various areas, we have set up this page for the assistance of you and other area researchers. Please keep in mind that our volunteers have their own research to do, their jobs and their families, so follow the below guidelines, keep your requests brief and to the point, and good luck in your search.

1. Go to the Copyrights Page and read it carefully before you request a lookup or volunteer to do lookups. This page has important information about copyright laws as they apply to the USGenWeb project. USGenWeb will not tolerate any copyright violations.

2. To request a lookup from any of the references, click on the name of the owner and ask them politely. Please provide the following: (1) the Title of the book you wish a lookup from; (2) the Name of the person you are seeking information on; and (3) a Time Frame for that person (i.e. Book: Beaufort County Marriages, 1847-1909; Person(s): the marriage of John Doe and Jane Doe; Time Frame: 1830 - 1840. This will enable our volunteer to better serve you. Should the book prove useful, we can provide the authors address and ordering information.

3. Lookup requests should be limited to one name, or perhaps two if it is a married couple. Information given will be minimal, for example if it is a census lookup, the information will be for a specific name in a specific census year.

4. Please * Do Not * ask for "everybody with the Smith surname," for an entire family group.

5. Please * Do Not * ask a Volunteer to do any research other than a lookup for which they have agreed to do; the volunteers have been asked not to comply with such requests.

If you own or have easy access to any kind of reference materials pertaining to Northeastern North Carolina genealogy or history, and you would be willing to do lookups on a voluntary basis, please email me. Your efforts will certainly be appreciated.
