Glasgow County, NC
Glasgow's website has merged
with Greene County.

Glasgow County was created in 1791, when old Dobbs County was abolished and its territory split into the new Glasgow (north) and Lenoir (south) counties. It was named for James Glasgow, who had been Secretary of State since 1777. In 1797 he was found to be deeply involved in a huge conspiracy to defraud the state out of large tracts of public land. Consequently, the county's name was changed to Greene in 1799.

The Glasgow County Query Archives have been moved to the Greene site. To enter a new Query, use the Greene County Query Board. You might include the word "Glasgow" in the title field.

The Surnames Archive has also been incorporated into the Greene County site, and it, along with the Query Archives, is now posted at that location (see under Resources).

The decision was made to merge the two websites because 1) Glasgow and Greene have the same boundaries and the same neighbors; 2) Glasgow only existed for 8 years; 3) duplication of effort and information seemed unjustified, and 4) Glasgow received little traffic.

We think you will enjoy having fewer links to the same information! Please transport yourself to Greene County!
