In 1663 the Lords Proprietors after receiving a charter from King Charles issued a grant to one of their number, Sir John Colleton for the island here to fore called Carlyle now Colington Island, a Post Office was established (it no longer exists) here June 14, 1889 with Ezekiel Midgett as postmaster.
