U.S. Census Bureau Quick Facts about Cabarrus County
Cabarrus County was formed in 1792 from part of Mecklenburg County. It was named in honor of Stephen Cabarrus of Edenton, who was a member of the North Carolina State Legislature several times, and Speaker of the House of Commons four times. In 1795 an act was passed naming commissioners to erect a courthouse on the land of Samuel Huie (Hughey) which had already been selected as a proper place for the county seat. They were ordered to lay out the town of Concord, which was incorporated in 1806.
Remember that, prior to 1792, you must look in the records of the counties
which had administrative jurisdiction over the area that is now Cabarrus County
(see the index section on neighboring and parent counties).

it is still interesting to know the "administrative ancestry" of the area.
And it is good to remember that European settlers
were not the first human beings to live here.
