was organized from western Dawson County in 1919. Birth, Death and
Marriage records prior to that date are in Dawson County. All land
records were transcribed and Garfield County has the records of all land
ownership, and transfers, within
its boundaries. |

On the night of
December 28, 1997 the Garfield County Courthouse was completely
destroyed by fire. This included the offices of the Clerk and
Recorder and the Clerk of Court. All records from the Clerk of
Courts office were destroyed however most of |
| the records of the
Clerk and Recorder were in a vault that was outside of the court house
and were safe. |
