Garfield
County was opened to homesteading between 1910 and 1920. This
brought over 7,000 people to the county at a time when transportation
was very poor. Rather that trying to travel to get their mail, the
homesteaders requested that there be a post office in their community.
Many of the post offices were in
the corner of someone's home and would change locations as people got
tired of the job, or moved out of the community.
It is planned that in the future
there will be a linkable page for each of the post offices with a
history, pictures of the country side at that location, and historical
pictures. If you have pictures, or information, about any of these
post offices please contact the Garfield
County Historical Society.
