VAIDEN'S ARTY

Roster and some History of the Vaiden Artillery (Company L) of the 1st. Mississippi Artillery, C.S.A

The Vaiden Artillery Company E was organized in 1861 and became Company L of the First Mississippi Light Artillery, which was organized in early 1862, It was commanded by Col. William T. Withers; they surrendered July 4, 1863 and were paroled July 1863; and they were exchanged Sept. 12, 1863; final surrender May 4, 1865.

Some of the Battles that Vaidens Arty participated in were:

The Bombardments of Vicksburg, May 18 through July 27, 1862.

They also participated in the Vicksburg Passage defense against the Union Navy on April 16, 1863

They also took part in the Vicksburg Campaign of May 7, 1863 through July 3, 1863. They were captured on July 4, 1863. Here are some links that you might find interesting!

The First Mississippi Light Artillery also participated in the Mobile Campaign from March 17 through April 12, 1865.
