P'POOL, Isham
48 m NC
b 1802 the 2nd child of Henry PETTYPOOL (name was
shortened to P'POOL then to POOL) & his 2nd wife Margaret TARBUTTON;
Isham PPOOL m on 3 Jun 1824 in Hall Co GA to Triphena H. GARRISON; he was
a Justice of the Peace in Hall Co GA; about 1832 he, along with other family
members, brought his family to what is now Wright Co, then Pulaski Co MO
and settled south or southwest of Hartville and owned a saw mill east of
Hartville which later came to be known as Steele Dam; Isham built the first
one and one half story log house in Wright Co; 1840 Pulaski Co MO census
for Isham P'POOL males 0-0-1-1-1-1 females 1-2-1-0-0-1; Isham P'POOL is
not found on any census after 1850; Goodspeed's History of Wright Co states
that Lawson BUTCHER and Anderson WATTERS (WALTERS) were indicted in Dec
1848 for aiding in the escape of Isham P'POOL from the county jail; the
Springfield Advertiser newspaper 21 Nov 1848 ran the following: $100 Reward,
Whereas Isham P'POOL, who was committed to Jail, at Hartsville (Hartville)
Wright Co MO, on the 29th day of October, charged with the crime of forgery,
has broken said Jail, and escaped from custody
on the 4th day of November 1848, I will give to any man who will deliver
said POOL to me in Wright Co MO the above reward of One Hundred Dollars,
as soon as I receive him in my custody. Said POOL is about 45 years old,
about five feet nine inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes and light
colored hair. He is getting somewhat gray. John S. SHIELDS, Sheriff of
Wright County, Missouri.
In
Oct 1858 Robert P'POOL admn of the estate of his bro Isham PPOOL,
was getting men to sign promissary notes, who evidently owed money to Isham;
nine years later in 1867, Robert P'POOL appeared before the Wright Co MO
Court asking permission to sell two 40 acre lots that were 8 miles east
of Hartville that Isham had bought in 1839 at the U.S. Land Office in Springfield
MO. Robert showed that this was all that was left of the estate
of Isham P'POOL and that they needed to be sold to
acct. debts against them.
