MOSSAR LINKED LINEAGE DATA
BASE NOW COMPLETE
Compatriot Gary E. Bishop,
Chairman Lineage Data Base Project
"After nearly two years of hard work by numerous volunteers, version 1.0 of the MOSSAR Linked Lineage Data Base (LLDB) is now complete.
"What is the LLDS? Simply put, the LLDB consists of all lineage information from every approved MOSSAR application and supplemental from the founding of MOSSAR in 1889 to the present with the important added feature that related lineages are actually linked. In this way many previously unknown family connections are now easily found. Over 26,0000 individuals and 111,720 marriages are included. More than 5,0000 individuals have special notations adding to their standard biographical information. For instance, national and state numbers for each member as well as the date of application are noted. Also noted is the service and grave information (if known) for each patriot ancestor. Even DAR numbers of females appearing in the lineages are noted where shown in a compatriot's application.
"The LLDS was created using version 2.31 of Personal Ancestral File (PAF) which is a DOS based Windows compatible program. The software is simple to use and includes an alphabetical browse feature and an easy to use search engine. PAF also generated and prints generational charts and reports as well as many other features too numerous to mention. The LLDB was created as part of the NSSAR Patriot Index Project which was completed earlier this year (1998). However, due to the national project's early deadline, only the first 1,6000 MOSSAR applications and supplementals appear on the Patriot Index. Nearly 600 more applications and their related supplementals appear on the just completed LLDB. Volunteers on the project included Gary Bishop, Mel McNeal, Beverly Griffith, Gerald McCoy, Lemuel Compton and Glenn Gohr. Deserving special thanks as well are Compatriot Doug Little (FLSSAR), whose vision gave us the Patriot Index project, and Mr. Jason Heredia, who provided crucial technical assistance.
"All Missouri compatriots who are computer users will want to have a copy of the LLDB. Best of all, the LLDB is free to all MOSSAR members and can be yours for only $2.00 to cover postage and packaging costs. To obtain your copy of the LLDB send your name and mailing address to Compatriot Gary E. Bishop, 300 S. Jefferson, Suite 415, Springfield, MO 65806-2224. Make your check payable to Compatriot Gary E. Bishop. Any surplus fund will be turned over to the MOSSAR Patriots Trust Fund. If you are already using any version of PAF, please so indicate in your order."
