What is now Monson Cemetery began with the death of twin infant sons of Thomas Monson in 1851. The children were buried on the Monson property at the top of a hill on the west edge of Bethany, and this soon became a neighborhood cemetery. Its growth and use declined dramatically with the development of Miriam and the I.O.O.F. Cemeteries on the north side of town. The Monson family burials are located in a small, separately fenced area at the southwest corner of the cemetery.

Monson Cemetery is located on the west edge of Bethany at the end of Miller Street. The cemetery is on the north side of the street and is well maintained.

Thanks to Phil & Kathi Stewart who conducted this survey in September, 2002.

Following is an alphabetical list of Monson Cemetery. Some stones do not have dates. Stones with just one date are assumed to be death dates, but this is not proven.
