AKRON CEMETERY, HARRISON COUNTY, MO


Akron Cemetery is located in Clay Township of Harrison County, on blacktop route O, just south of the old town of Akron. From Eagleville on Interstate 35, go east on route N to route O. Turn left (north) and follow route O. The cemetery is on the left (west) side of the road. What was once the village of Akron is now a small cluster of houses, an old business building that is no longer open and two churches that are closed and boarded up, but it was once a thriving little community of more than 200 residents. Many of these early settlers to northeastern Harrison County are buried at the Akron Cemetery, just south of town. It is easily accessed and very well maintained. PLEASE NOTE: Although the cemetery is well maintained and is still used today, there are a few stones that are weathered and unreadable. Most of these appear to be of infants who died in the 1870s.
