(Elmer Horstmann is the father of Norbert Horstmann and Louis Oberg is the father of
Norbert's wife, Dorine Oberg Horstmann. Ervin Horstmann is the father of
Dennis Horstmann.)
Viola Langendoerfer recalled that she normally
took the team of horses to go to church and the boys would ride on the wagon
with her. Then one day, some of the boys hurried out and untied the horses,
then jumped on the back of the wagon. Ervin Horstmann was supposed to sit next to
her but he would not do it. She couldn't remember if Elmer
or Louis sat by her, but she said that Ervin walked
home. He wouldn't get on the wagon. When he got home, they asked him why he
wasn't on the wagon. He told them that they just wanted to see who got home
first.
