Barry Birth & Death Record

Some things to keep in mind:

County Clerks were required to register births and deaths from July 1, 1883 until this requirement was repealed in 1893. Not all all doctors and midwives complied with the 1883-1893 act so few records of that time period exist today.  Only a few records exist for the years 1886-1888 and there may not be any for the years of 1889-1909.

The present law requires a birth or death to be registered. This became a law in 1910 and so all records are sent to the Missouri Bureau of Vital Records.

Deed & Mortgage Records at the Court House

Deeds, warranties, quit claims and mortgages begin with the year 1837 forward to present day and they are are stored in the recorder's office of the Barry County courthouse. They are listed by grantor and grantee and cross matched as well, they list the date of instrument, date filed, book recorded in, page number, a description of property and the nature of the file. Depending on what the nature is, depends on what book they will be located in. The really old ones are listed by letter and extremely hard to read ... the later ones are listed by number. The folks in the office really work hard to get a dark enough copy for us to read.
