Volunteers to help in your research

Please remember, these are all "volunteers" and are doing this on their own time. Do not abuse their services, and follow their guidelines for requests.

If you can volunteer to look up information for others, please send me an e-mail at schumanC@comcast.net.  You may possibly benefit from this as much as the researcher you're helping!

DEATH RECORDS

Sandy Louden has offered to get copies of original MN death certificates and obituaries at the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul. The death Certificate indexes are available for the years 1908-1966 online at: http://www.mnhs.org/index.html  If a death certificate is found, she will also look up an obituary for the individual in the newspapers for up to 7 days after the date of death in large newspapers, and for one month in small town papers. She will also check Death Cards from 1900 to 1907 which are searchable if you have the full name, complete date of death, city/town and county of death. No guarantees are made as they are not in real good order.

Please follow these guidelines when requesting Death Certificates:

1. Limit your requests to 3 Individuals
2. Please furnish the full name, the Cert ID # shown on the death index, date of death, and the county.

If just an obituary is needed, please furnish full name, date of death, county and city/town of death and/or residence plus any other information; i.e. spouse's name, children's names, parents/sibling's names. Fees: $3.00 per individual This will cover the cost of the copies and help defray parking costs for Sandy. Parking is $6.50 per day at the History Center, and we appreciate her valuable time as well. Please e-mail Sandy at
permdogs@comcast.net

"MINNESOTA LOOKUPS" MUST be in the subject line of the e-mail or it may be deleted.

PLEASE BE PATIENT when waiting for your copies of death records and obituaries.

"FREE RESEARCH"
Andersonville Civil War Prison Records, Andersonville Georgia.

Hello veterans and newbies of the rootsweb.

There are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 259  prisoners on record from the state of Minnesota and more than 100  who died here, I thought I would send my offer.  I feel the need to say I am not in any way trying to focus on the horrors of Andersonville compared to any POW camp in the north ..( i.e.Elmira ) or any others and do not wish to stir up arguments on this site. My focus is dedicated to ALL of those held prisoner during this war, on both sides as well as all Americans who gave their freedoms for those that we enjoy today.. I just happen to be near Andersonville so this is where I do my work

Here are my sources of research.

There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as "UNKNOWN ". This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. Please visit my website dedicated to those Americans  who were imprisoned and died in captivity while in the service to our country
