Genealogical Books Research Notes Many
selections for research in MN Counties and
surrounding states.
Genealogy General--
My name is Dave and I have a web site
that will assist all researchers for MINNESOTA. I
have compiled batch nos. for Births, Marriages
& CHRs. in MN. You can search by county, then
by surname. (or leave surname field blank for ALL
that film's extractions). These have been
extracted from courthouse records & Church
Records. I have put the sources on the link, and
will tell you which books/films have been
extracted. If it is not done, then you can order
the film from a FHL for the incomplete
years... (and NOT order the film that has
been extracted and inserted into the IGI. Also, this is a
great way to research your family's collateral lines and their
kids...)

1895
Minnesota Atlas - Scott County
Panoramic Maps 1847-1929.
View a map of Shakopee in 1869!! The
panoramic map was a popular cartographic form
used to depict U.S. and Canadian cities and towns
during the late nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries. Known also as bird's-eye views,
perspective maps, and aero views, panoramic maps
are nonphotographic representations of cities
portrayed as if viewed from above at an oblique
angle. Although not generally drawn to scale,
they show street patterns, individual buildings,
and major landscape features in perspective. http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/pmhtml/panhome.html
The Treaty Story, Minnesota Historical
Society: this website presents a series of
historical maps and description of how the U.S.

Minnesota Historical Society's Map

the
Tiger Map Server and obtain
census data from the
1990 Census Lookup server. You
can search for places, counties or MCDs by entering the name and
state abbreviation (optional), or 5-digit zip code. Note: ZIP
code boundaries do not necessarily match place boundries.
A
Guide to the Records of Minnesota's
Public Lands, by Gregory Kinney
and Lydia Lucas, Minnesota Historical
Society, Division of Archives and
Manuscripts, 1985, 121 pages. This
publication is out-of-print, but can be
viewed at the Minnesota Historical
Society and other libraries.
"The records described in this guide
document the state of Minnesota's
acquisition, sale, and management of its
trust fund, railroad grant, and related
lands, as well as the federal land survey
of Minnesota and the initial transfer of
title to public lands from the federal
government to the state or to private
parties. The approximately 800 cubic feet
of records were created primarily by four
agencies: the State Land Office,
the Land Department of the State
Auditor's office, the U.S. General Land
Office in Minnesota, and the U.S.
Surveyor General for Minnesota. The guide
also summarizes land-related records in
other state agencies, with individual
descriptions of particularly pertinent
records series."
Windows
to the Past: a bibliography of Minnesota
county atlases, by Mai Treude,
Center for Urban and Regional Affairs,
University of Minnesota, 1980, Pub. No.
CURA 80-3, 187 pages. This publication is
out-of-print, so look for it at your
library, check interlibrary loan or
contact CURA directly. As
time permits, CURA staff may be able to
photocopy listings for a particular
county of interest.
"A comprehensive listing of
Minnesota's county atlases and where they
are available. Published from 1867 to the
present, these atlases contain records of
land use and land ownership, directories
of businesses and residences, photographs
of buildings and people, genealogies,
county histories, and advertisements. In
an introduction to the bibliography, a
brief history of the county atlas and how
it developed in Minnesota is presented
along with a number of illustrations from
Minnesota atlases."
