 History

In 1898, three ladies formed a hereditary society in which membership would be small
by reason of strict eligibility requirements, and therefore, more intimate. Miss Eugenia
Washington, great grandniece of George Washington, Mrs. Henry V. Boynton and Mrs.
William L. Mason founded the organization of Daughters of Founders and Patriots of
America on June 7, 1898, and a week later the District of Columbia granted the charter,
on June 14, 1898.









Membership


Any woman of at least 18 years of age,
who is in sympathy with the object of this society is
eligible to membership,provided that she is descended in an
unbroken paternal line of either father or mother from an ancestor
who settled in any of the Colonies now included in the United States
of America during the period from the settlement of Jamestown, May 13, 1607 to
May 13, 1687, and provided that in this unbroken line, is an intermediate
ancestor who, by personal service in a civil or military capacity
or by other acts proving his unfailing loyalty, assisted in
establishing American independence during the
Revolutionary Period, 1775 to 1784.




Object

The Object of this Society shall be:


  1. To associate congenial women whose ancestors struggled for life, liberty, home and happiness when
    this land was a new and unknown country and whose lines of descent come through patriots who
    sustained the Colonies in the struggle for Independence in the Revolutionary War..
  2. To teach reverent regard for history of the founders of this country: to inculcate patriotism in all generations: to commemorate the events in the history of our country.
  3. To preserve family records.
  4. In time of war, to obtain supplies for the military hospitals.
