Isabella County Times-News, Thursday, February 25, 1943
Fifty-Seven
Men and Youths Leave for Army, navy and Marine Corps Centers
Isabella county’s fourth and by fare the largest, contingent of this year left for various Army, Navy and marine Corps reception centers this week. Fifty-seven more youth of the county entered the services this week according to Selective Service officials here. Forty-one of the group were inducted into the army, 10 into the navy, and six into the Marine Corps.
Under the new
Selective Service type of induction, the selectees are given their choice of
the branch of service they desire to enter when they reach the induction
center. With but few exceptions the
physical requirements for qualifications are approximately the same. However, the Navy and marine Corps have a
physical standard slightly superior to that of the army.
Of the contingent
of Isabella county men that went to Kalamzoo for final type physical
examinations last week, all but 13 were found qualified for some branch of the
service. Four of the group failed to
qualify for general military service, but were accepted for limited
service. Approximately 20 of the men
were volunteers. Those inducted into
