County’s February Draft Quota, 34;

Will Leave 15th

Five Replacements Also Needed to Fill January Quota

   The third selective service quota for Isabella county is 34, according to notification received by the draft board here this week.  The contingent will leave there on or around February 15.  It will also be necessary to replace five youths in the January quota who were rejected in physical examinations at Saginaw Tuesday.  It is thought these replacements will be called at the time of the newly announced quota.

   From the group of 19 who left here Monday, those who were rejected at Saginaw Induction station are: Paul Jodway, Mt. Pleasant, Stanley Dale, Lloyd Ritter, Michael Luptak, all of RD4, Clare and Fred Carrick  of Coleman.  Poor vision and dental conditions were said to be responsible for the rejections.  All men were volunteers.

   Although the first two quotas have been met entirely by volunteers, it is not thought likely that the third quota can be filled that way unless volunteering exceeds expectations.  Several lyoung men have volunteered for service since the last group was named.

   There are at present 168 Isabella youths tentatively grouped in class 1, available for immediate service.  According to their order numbers these registrants are now being called to take physical examinations.  From those approved in their physical examinations and approved volunteers it is expected to fill the quota within a week or ten days.
