Dear Friend Ed,
Yours of Nov 1st is before me and I now reply. Was glad to hear from you. Hope you will find time to answer this. Am glad to hear you are doing so well. Also, that you are engaged.
I was home last winter and found some one that thinks I am perfection and
when I came to consider the person I could do no other way than reciprocate. Result, an engagement before I left I find it does a fellow good to become engaged for I have

been very steady this summer and I think some time next year will find me keeping house. There is nothing like it
I am told by my married friends does not cost any more and is so much more pleasant. You ask after
Coopers children. He has given Laura away and has Frank she has the other

Maloney has for a blacksmith - I donot take stock in any of the tribe. Have
not been up to Mikes in over a month. Tom Brisbo had a row with Ed McGuiness
last spring and
moved away somewhere on Lake Michigan. I am still at Roberts but donot like it here at all. Young Sutherland has gone in the woods. Flo__ (note: that was as written, I expect he was abbreviating Florence) is here at home. They have had one
row since I have been here. He was playing cards
rather late one night and she went in the bar room threw the cards on the floor and drew him in the sitting room by the hair. They made up again

in a day or two. Farner is still in the station and takes his rations as regularly as usual. Billy Knowls is in the woods again.
The Dunns are here yet Fred- (note: again, an abbreviation, presumed Frederick) is in
NY City. Gustin(?) is in Bay City and is hard up. He beat Alex Howe out of $500.00 and has signed over to his wife. Nice man that. Well Ed, please write soon and you shall hear from me.
Charlie Smith(?) was married two weeks ago to Miss Alice Durby(?) of Roscommon. Big time at the Campbell House Bay City & C&C.
Nothing more this time,
Your Friend,
