Each of the main areas of Melanesia have their own specific web pages. You may access those pages by clicking on the links to each island below. Each site provides access to, and the ability to contribute to surnames lists, transcriptions of documents, post queries and more. For further information about the project, click here.

General Information

The geographical area of the Pacific Ocean known as Melanesia comprises hundreds of tiny islands with the main ones being Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
More than 200 different languages are spoken in the region, with English and French being the most widely spoken languages.

Fiji	The islands of Fiji lie in the Pacific Ocean to the east of Australia. The Fiji site is maintained by: Mike Calder.
New Caledonia	La Nouvelle Calédonie as the French speaking locals call it, lies to the east of Australia in the Coral Sea/Pacific Ocean. This site is managaed in conjunction with the FranceGenWeb site, as it is technically a French province. The pages for New Caledonia are in French & English. This site is up for adoption.
Papua New Guinea	Papua New Guinea is situated to the north of Australia and takes in approximately half of the largest island in the group. The PNG GebWeb site is maintained by: Annette Peebles.
Solomon Islands	More particularly the South Solomon Islands, are the northern most island group of Melanesia. This site is up for adoption.
Vanuatu	The islands of Vanuatu are almost in the centre of the groups that make up Melanesia, lying east of Australia in the Pacific Ocean, and to the north of New Caledonia. This site is up for adoption.
