Canaan Town Office, (207) 474-8976 (Note: on June 10, 1995, the Canaan Town Hall was burned down. The Vital Records, while not burned on account of their being stored in a fireproof cabinet, nevertheless, suffered water damage. An attempt is currently being made to reconstruct the original book on computer.) Records of land title and divorces are held in the Office of the Clerk of the Court in the county seat of the county in which the event took place. The County Seat of Lincoln County is Wiscasset, Maine -- records previous to 1799.
