Land Owners When Prince George's County Was Formed

At the time Prince George's County was formed, it encompassed the entire western portion of Maryland by description. However, the areas of settlement in 1696 were limited to the portion of Maryland marked "Area Enlarged" on the map below.

Mrs Louise Joyner Hienton researched the Patent Records at the Maryland Archives to determine the surveys and land grants that preceded the formation of Prince George's County, but were included within the boundaries established for the new county in 1696. She listed each tract, including the owner, the date, the reference for the record and any helpful notes regarding the tract of land. Then Mrs Hienton prepared a map of these tracts of land.

The map is too large to present in a single image. It has been divided the map into 7 sections, labeling the sections with the grid markers contained on each image. Letters (A-Y) begin on the left (west) and end on the right (east). Numbers (1-23) begin at the top (north) and end at the bottom (south). See the map below:
