The James A. Garfield Aux. #1 was established originally
in 1931. As the years passed and the members dwindled the active auxiliary
became dormant. It never lost its active status. Then, in the spring of
1996 with the rechartering of the James A. Garfield Camp of the Sons of
Union Veterans interest was rekindled in the Aux. From that day to this
the Aux. has continued to grow and expand its involvement in the Civil War
community.
Some of our members are genealogists, some enjoy civil
war history, or collect civil war memorabilia. Some of our ladies enjoy
dressing in period attire, which is not a requirement to be part of our
Aux. All of us share a love for our ancestors and neighbors who gave that
we might be one.
Left is a statue of our Aux. namesake President James A.
Garfield which is located in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda Washington, D.C. |
